"I want to try to return Dustan's affections."
"What?" Alva raised a brow. Kari scoffed and crossed her arms in front of her.
"You heard me."
"Why do I need to know that?" Alva spat, glaring at Kari who tried to keep her face from turning a deeper shade of red.
"Because," Kari huffed, "you're the only one who knows of my... circumstances. And, wasn't it your idea in the first place?"
"Wow, look at you. Finally doing something decent." Alva comment dryly.
"Don't goad me. I'm trying to listen to my conscience here."
"I'm more surprised you have a conscience, for one. Did you forget how you beat me to a bloody pulp, just weeks ago?" Alva retorted sarcastically. "If you have any conscience at all, you'd leave me out of this mess. I already did my part. The rest is for you and Dustan to figure out."
