Someone was walking on the stairs, the footsteps heavy, as if dragging something.
The sound of metal scraping the ground was getting closer, and the previously heated argument had stopped.
The woman looked skeptical, "Honey, did you hear something?"
The man was still fuming, too angry to pay attention to any noises, and snapped back loudly, "My ears are damn near deaf from your yelling, how can I hear anything else!"
The woman frowned, "I'm serious, listen carefully."
Although the man hadn't calmed down yet, seeing his wife's expression, he decided to quiet down for a moment.
But after listening intently, indeed, there was no sound.
"Are you hallucinating?"
"No!" The woman emphasized, "There really is a sound outside, don't believe me, go open the door and see."
The woman firmly believed she hadn't misheard and pushed her skeptical husband to go check the door.
