"I swear to God, I didn't do anything with Wulan, Wi." He raised his index and middle finger, taking an oath. "I'd never hurt you like that."
I looked out the window. Silence returned. But Mas Dewa didn't give up.
"Are we really going to talk about this now, Wi? Should I take you back as my wife?" A faint smile touched the corner of his lips. A tempting offer—something Mas Dewa knew I'd find hard to refuse. If only there weren't a thorn in the flesh.
I said nothing. My heart stirred a little. But no!
I took a deep breath. My thoughts whispered, Let it go, Wi. In a few weeks, our status will change. We'll go back to being strangers. I no longer have the right to stop him from marrying his future ex-mother-in-law's chosen woman. So whether he's ever slept with that woman or not—it's no longer my concern.
