Chapter 39 - (38) The Alliance

Cambridge, HAS Arena

As Max finishes his cake and cleans up, the recruiters decide to tell us what they are here for.

"Before we continue I'd like to introduce ourselves since I realized we never actually did at the beginning, I'm Richie Doe and this is my brother, John Doe"

John waves at us with a smile.

"We aren't actually recruiting for right now but for after you graduate, have you heard of a First Choice Recruit?"

We all nod, First Choice Recruits (or FCRs) are those who have already attracted the eyes of certain organizations or agencies, and have signed a contract to work for them after graduation.

"Good, then I don't have to explain myself, we are actually recruiters for The Alliance you see"

Our eyes widened at the revelation, The Alliance is the biggest organization for Egoists in the world, they deal with all sorts of missions and are said to have the best training regiments for increasing Attributes. They are ruled by 'The Core' which is a group of the strongest Egoists in the world and are recognized as a government body that regulates almost everything having to do with Egoists, their missions, rights, benefits and responsibilities.

They tend to separate almost everything into Teams of people, from Teaching Staff, to Trainers, to even Merchants.

At this point I noticed a little pin on the top left of their chests. It's only two letters 'MF' in a custom font, The 'M' is made to look like it's made out of wood, the ends are white, curving in and down to resemble fangs. The 'F' is Golden and colored in to look like it's shining. I immediately recognize them as the 'Mythic Fighters' duo, Mimic and Midas.

Mimic has a Race Class Ego, and has the ability to transform into a sort of viscous entity that copies all aspects of wood, stone and metal. He can use his body to mimic objects and when his target draws near he ambushes them stretching out tendrils, claws and fangs out from his body trapping them.

Midas has an Enchanter Class Ego, he can turn almost anything into gold, increasing its defense, when applied to weapons it can greatly enhance their sharpness and power.

They are known for taking on all sorts of infiltration tasks together, I've never seen them outside of the costumes though.

"We are-" John is about to explain when

"OMG! Mythic Fighters!" We all turn to Bonnie.

"S-sorry I'm a big fan! I've read about some of your missions and achievements too! I never thought I'd actually get to meet you, much less outside your costumes!" She beamed at them.

"Haha I didn't think someone would recognize us" John says as he returns the smile, the others finally realize who they are and seem surprised.

"Well the pins do kinda give it away" Says Ron.

The recruiters turn to look down at their pins, Richie chuckles. "Well we did custom made them to resemble us as close as possible"

Their shoulders loosen up a bit and we discuss their recruitment proposal.

The terms seem pretty standard, better actually, contract of three years with option for renewal, dorm rooms for housing, must report when called upon, missions may take up to and possibly longer than a week.

Cafeteria has a strict menu and will not charge unless it's extra, Max smiles at that and he's already looking for loopholes to get extra food for free. I still remember when he tricked the cafeteria into letting him have two additional baked potatoes along his meals because technically they counted as his two vegetables.

Entrance to the smart training equipment with no time limit, with Attribute measurement devices, showers and a locker room. Bonnie nods at that, she's been looking for better machines to train her Constitution, it seems she's beggining to hit a sort of bottleneck in her training.

They also have free healthcare, dental and optometrist which completely blows my mind. I look up at them but before I can say anything.

"Yes, it's just like we said. It's not difficult for us to afford it, actually, we have a pair of Healer Class Users in house as part of the team so..."

So that's why, but shouldn't they still charge for it? Also I'm confused about the team part wasn't it just them two? I ask them about it.

"For one they already have a clinic open, it's part of the main building. They already make money off of it, so they don't charge the team. And as for the team, well you didn't think it's only the two of us did you? We still need someone to do the finances, cleaning, maintenance, and we also share buildings with other teams. Why do you think the facilities are so big and all encompassing?" Says John.

"As for the other teams you don't have to worry about it, you won't see them often regardless, our schedules don't tend to match with theirs either way"

"I see then" I say

"Where do I sign up?" Says John (Ranger)

"Actually we only have seven spots and there are ten of you so..." Says John (Doe)

"So! We have made some choices and three of you will be left out"

The table falls silent.
