It must have been because before turning feral, Vania regarded Erik as the "must kill target," the supreme threat, and maybe this thought was still there in her beastly mind. Regardless, this single-minded focus played into Erik's strategy perfectly, since that meant she wasn't bothering the Dark Shapes.
