chapter 20 Uncertainties and Lost lingers of one another, Intertwined once More
(Author: the title is too long for me so I also put it here, just in case)
After the fierce battle with the Herrscher of Earth, Kevin, where he emerged victorious, a few days have passed.
Dr. MEI can be found tirelessly working in her laboratory, fully engrossed in her research endeavors.
Her keen eyes display an enhanced focus and a liveliness that seems to exceed her usual demeanor.
Thanks to the Serum and the support of the massive golden robot that supplied it, the spread of her Honkai infection has been successfully halted.
Things are finally starting to look up and align favorably for her.
In a brief moment of reflection, she lets out a heavy sigh as thoughts of Kevin flood her mind, yet she maintains a professional facade, pondering when the right time would come for a conversation between them.
The metal door slammed open as Elysia joyfully entered, exclaiming, "MEI~ MEI~ I'm just gonna borrow this for a second!", a wide grin on her face as she skipped over to grab a large gatling gun before swiftly departing.
Eden followed Elysia's path, watching her friend head off before proceeding to enter MEI's lab herself.
Inside, MEI appeared deeply engrossed in her work, studying a holographic screen displaying a complex blueprint.
Approaching MEI, Eden remarked, "Busy as usual?" with a knowing smile.
MEI maintained her focus on the blueprint, replying, "What else needs to be done?"
Concern evident in her voice, Eden suggested, "Don't you think you need a break?" Her hands resting on her hips.
MEI let out a tired sigh, expressing, "We may have small victories, but we must remain prepared; the Honkai threat is ever looming... It can attack us anytime and anywhere..."
Slightly disheartened, Eden nodded in understanding, resignedly admitting, "Well, if that's how you see it..."
With a final glance at MEI, Eden quietly exited the lab, leaving her friend to continue her essential work.
Once she finished reviewing the blueprint meticulously, she then briskly left the lab and made her way over to the bustling engineering department, where the clang of metal echoed through the futuristic corridor. Her fellow colleagues, upon spotting her, extended warm greetings, to which she courteously replied but with a hint of detachment. Upon reaching the department entrance, she found one of the skilled mechanics who immediately recognized the prestigious head scientist and respectfully inquired, "Dr. MEI ma'am, what brings you here today?"
Responding with her usual efficiency, Dr. MEI wasted no time, asking directly, "Is Aeon present?"
The mechanic nodded affirmatively and informed her that the boss was indeed in his workshop. Dr. MEI acknowledged this information and proceeded confidently towards the imposing large doors. Upon entering the workshop, her eyes fell upon the colossal golden robot known as Aeon.
Aeon, in its robotic manner, stated, "Detecting Dr. MEI, what is the reason for your sudden visit?"
Without hesitation, Dr. MEI handed a USB device to the sophisticated golden automaton. She explained her latest design, asking, "Can you make something of this?"
The large robot carefully grasped the USB with its intricate metallic fingers and inserted it into the vast computer system. After analyzing the design, Aeon remarked, "A weapon capable of converting honkai energy into heat and conventional energy... I see..."
Dr. MEI nodded in agreement, stating her vision, "By harnessing this technology, we can make significant advancements and transition away from honkai energy towards safer alternatives. How long do you anticipate this project will take?"
Aeon considered the question for a moment, knowing the extensive work ahead. Despite the sizable task, the robot was equipped with the red Archive cube, which can help in the few technicalities.
"It will be a lengthy process with rigorous testing required," Aeon responded calculatedly.
Although not entirely pleased with the projected timeframe, Dr. MEI trusted Aeon's expertise, acknowledging the monumental task ahead. Accepting the challenge, she replied, "Understood. Let's proceed with the necessary steps."
While the giant robot is busy analyzing the schematics it was provided with, Dr. MEI remains lost in thought, even though she maintains her professionalism throughout the task at hand.
The giant robot noticeably picks up on her absent-mindedness, prompting Aeon to inquire, "Does Dr. MEI have something on her mind?"
In response, Dr. MEI slowly turns her head, shaking it slightly before replying, "N-no... Just... I'm just contemplating something..."
Aeon, noting her unease, encourages her to share her thoughts, stating, "If Dr. MEI has something weighing on her, she should not hesitate to voice it out."
After examining the blueprint Dr. MEI had provided, the giant robot's operator suggests, "If it's still bothering you, perhaps confiding in someone close to you first might help."
With a solemn expression, Dr. MEI remains silent as she exits the workshop housing the towering golden robot, eventually making her way out of the mechanical engineering department.
The following day, as Dr. MEI roamed the metal scientific corridors, she unexpectedly spotted Kevin in the distance. Her eyes shifted back and forth between her clipboard and Kevin's figure. Meanwhile, Kevin was leisurely strolling, patiently waiting for the maintenance on his armor to be completed.
Approaching Kevin, Dr. MEI called out, "Kevin..."
In response, Kevin turned towards her and replied with a simple, "MEI..."
Dr. MEI momentarily diverted her gaze and inquired, "Are you occupied at the moment?"
With a grunt and a slight nod, Kevin indicated that he was indeed preoccupied. Noticing his demeanor, Dr. MEI let out a soft sigh, acknowledging the situation, "I understand..."
In a surprising turn of events, Kevin's countenance softened, and he added, "However, I am available now."
Maintaining her professionalism, Dr. MEI suggested, "Perfect. How about meeting in my office after your armor maintenance is complete?"
Another grunt followed by a nod from Kevin confirmed the agreement, as Dr. MEI concluded their interaction and exited the scene.
A few hours later, Kevin's stoic gaze fell upon the imposing wooden door of Dr. MEI's office, a subtle knock signaling his presence within. With practiced ease, Dr. MEI swung the door open, her welcoming smile reaching her eyes as she greeted Kevin, "Kevin, glad you came," exuding her usual professional demeanor. Gesturing for him to step inside, she added, "Come on in."
Nodding in acknowledgment, Kevin crossed the threshold into the serene office, his gaze sweeping over the familiar surroundings before settling on the inviting couch. Dr. MEI, ever thoughtful, mentioned, "I'll grab some coffee."
Taking a few minutes to brew the perfect cup, Dr. MEI returned to find Kevin comfortably seated, his demeanor calm yet distant. Settling into the chair opposite him, she broke the silence, saying, "Hope it doesn't bother you much..."
Kevin, ever the guarded individual, replied, "What is there to discuss..."
As Dr. MEI savored her coffee, a soft sigh escaping her lips, she met Kevin's gaze and suggested, "Nothing really... I thought we could use a moment of respite from the chaos outside, a brief interlude from our busy schedules..." Her eyes momentarily drifting away.
Inclining his head in understanding, Kevin reached for the cup of coffee, his hand encased in a frost-resistant glove, the physical barrier a stark reminder of his unique nature as he took a contemplative sip.
The air between them grew heavy with unspoken tension, the distinct feeling of unease settling over the room like a heavy shroud. Sensing the need to break the silence, Dr. MEI probed, "I have nothing planned for this afternoon... How about you?"
Kevin, his mind already occupied with the impending tasks of the day, mentioned, "Got some scouting to do with Hua... After that, I'm done for the day..."
Dr. MEI's gaze drifted away, her voice tinged with concern as she suggested, "If you've had a long day, perhaps we could unwind at a nearby restaurant I know of, a quiet escape from the demands of the day..."
Pondering her proposition, Kevin glanced at the empty coffee cup, a barely perceptible smile touching his lips, as he agreed softly, "Of course..."
After they separated, feeling a mix of emotions, they went about their separate ways for a few hours before serendipitously reuniting at a cozy, quaint restaurant just nearby. There, amid the warm ambiance, they decided to feast on a steaming, fragrant bowl of freshly prepared, mouth-watering noodles.
Dr. MEI maintained a high level of professionalism in her interactions with Kevin, ensuring that he felt valued and taken care of. "I told you this place is great, didn't I?" she reiterated confidently, making Kevin feel reassured and at ease in her presence.
Kevin, although initially reserved in his response, nodded with a sense of quiet gratitude, his expression reflecting a mixture of appreciation and a longing for more interaction with Dr. MEI.
In a moment of genuine kindness, Dr. MEI's smile, while subtle, conveyed a warmth that was not lost on Kevin. "Don't worry, take seconds if you like," she offered, extending a generous gesture that immediately made Kevin feel welcomed and appreciated, prompting him to indulge in another helping of noodles without hesitation.
Despite the passage of time and the lack of regular contact between them, Kevin found comfort in his familiarity with Dr. MEI, knowing that her thoughtful actions were a testament to their long standing connection and mutual respect. With each bite of the delicious noodles, Kevin savoured the moment, grateful for the unexpected treat and the genuine care that Dr. MEI had shown him that thought is lost.
After Dr. MEI treats Kevin to a lovely meal in the warm ambiance of a cozy restaurant, they stroll contentedly out into the gleaming lights of the city street. The crisp night air envelops them as they walk side by side, not needing to cling onto each other for warmth thanks to the protective clothing and equipment provided by Dr. MEI. Kevin's body is shielded from the cold, ensuring that he doesn't freeze in the chilly weather. The specially designed clothes, including insulating gloves, serve their purpose well, keeping them comfortable as they venture out.
As they meander through the bustling city, a sense of tranquility envelops them, broken only by the distant view of a school building that catches Dr. MEI's eye. Reflecting on the past, she remarks, "That school brings back memories of our youth; it feels surreal to see how far we've come since then."
Kevin gazes at the school, nodding as he recalls, "Yes, that time when our city lay in ruins."
Agreeing with his sentiment, Dr. MEI responds, "Indeed, we have endured much together."
Their conversation drifts to a nostalgic tone, reminiscing about the shared experiences that have shaped their bond. Kevin muses, "It's remarkable how our past experiences have shaped us. I wish we could relive those moments."
Dr. MEI smiles wistfully, "We may not be able to turn back time, but we can work together to build a better future and combat the honkai."
A playful banter ensues as Kevin remarks, "You weren't the easiest person to deal with back then."
With a hint of amusement, Dr. MEI retorts, "Blame it on your stubbornness; you weren't exactly a walk in the park either."
They acknowledge each other's growth with a knowing smile, cherishing the memories they have created together. As they part ways for the night, Kevin suggests, "Shall we do this again sometime?"
Dr. MEI's heart flutters for a moment before she composes herself, replying, "I'd enjoy that; it's a refreshing reminder of our shared past."
As Kevin walks away, a subtle blush creeps onto Dr. MEI's cheeks, a silent acknowledgment of the fondness she holds for their bond. "Becoming distracted," she murmurs to herself, a soft smile tugging at her lips as she watches Kevin disappear into the night.
Kevin remained composed and stoic as he reflected on the past interaction, calmly remarking, "You were so mean back then."
In response, the professional demeanor of Dr. MEI shone through as she calmly expressed, "It's not my fault for being annoyed by you back then."
Acknowledging the need for productivity, Kevin shifted the focus to upcoming tasks by checking the time and suggesting, "We have work to do for tomorrow." Contemplating their past experience, he then pondered, "Would you like to hang out like this again?"
Dr. MEI subtly averted her gaze, evoking nostalgia with her reply, "I did enjoy our time together; it brought back fond memories."
Kevin responded with a subtle nod and a faint smile that only just grazed his lips, an expression so understated that it was almost imperceptible. "You're always quite like that," he murmured softly. In response, Mei, caught off guard by his comment, furrowed her brows in bewilderment, prompting a questioning "Huh?" from her lips.
Shaking his head slightly, Kevin attempted to brush off the moment, uttering a casual, "Nothing. See you tomorrow." With that, he made his exit, leaving Mei standing there watching him go.
As MEI watched Kevin walk off, a sudden rush of warmth filled her cheeks, tinting them with a rosy hue that spread gradually across her face. With a bashful smile forming on her lips, her gaze instinctively shifted away, unable to meet his departing figure. The mix of emotions swirling within her caused a slight flutter in her chest, making her breath hitch for a moment. And then, under her breath, she muttered softly, "idiot," as if to cover up the subtle impact his departure had on her. With conflicting thoughts dancing through her mind, she couldn't help but feel a sense of longing mixed with irritation at the fleeting moment.
After a week passes by with its relentless march of seconds, minutes, and hours, leaving behind a trail of fleeting moments and memories, we find ourselves standing at the threshold of a new chapter. During this span of time, the sun rises and sets, the moon waxes and wanes, and life unfolds in its unpredictable dance of joys and sorrows. As the days slip through our fingers like grains of sand, we are reminded of the ephemeral nature of existence and the importance of cherishing each passing moment. Reflecting on the events that have transpired, we pause to contemplate the lessons learned, the connections made, and the growth experienced. With each tick of the clock, we are propelled forward on the journey of life, ever onwards, ever unfolding.
Dr. MEI, with a curious expression, turns towards Kevin and inquires, "How is the Expedition progressing in the northern region?"
Kevin proceeded to approach the table and carefully placed the files down. "A few Honkai beasts are mentioned in here," Kevin reported. "The Honkai Energy levels are somewhat ambiguous."
Dr. Mei contemplated the information presented. "I understand. Based on this data, it seems that the Honkai Energy levels are relatively low. This suggests that we can dispatch a limited number of soldiers under Hua's command to address the situation."
Kevin nodded in acknowledgment, his brow furrowed in contemplation as he carefully considered Dr. Mei's query. "Hmm, that will do. Oh, I must share that there was a Ganesha Class Honkai beast involved," he revealed, his voice tinged with a hint of lingering concern.
Dr. Mei, with a subtle raise of her eyebrows, leaned in closer to Kevin, her gaze focused intently on his features. "A Ganesha class?" she repeated, her tone curious yet composed. Drawing a deep breath, she inquired further, "Are you feeling okay?"
Kevin slowly raised his hand to his chin, a thoughtful expression crossing his face before he responded, "It's nothing. I took care of it; it was just a minor scratch," his words tinged with a note of reassurance. As he nonchalantly gestured with a dismissive wave of his hand, he attempted to downplay the gravity of the situation.
Observing Kevin intently, Dr. Mei maintained a skeptical gaze, her arms now crossed in a display of professional interrogation. "Are you completely sure about that?" she probed, her voice laced with a hint of discerning doubt.
Taking a moment to collect his thoughts, Kevin finally met Dr. Mei's scrutinizing stare. "Affirmative," he affirmed, his voice firm yet tinged with a trace of vulnerability as he averted his gaze, a subtle indication of lingering uncertainty.
In response, Dr. Mei's expression softened slightly, a gesture of understanding flickering across her features. She nodded in acknowledgment before speaking with a tone of reassurance, "I'll set up a check-up appointment with Su. It's best to be thorough."
With a final nod of agreement, Dr. Mei concluded, her professional demeanor unwavering, "Good... Take care, Kevin"
The next day arrived with a heavy load of paperwork waiting for Dr. MEI. Her tired eyes seemed to magnify the eye bugs as she yawned, feeling the burden of exhaustion creeping in. Just as fatigue was about to take over, Kevin noticed her struggle and remarked, "You look exhausted. Take a break."
Despite his stoic and cold demeanor, Dr. MEI stubbornly insisted, "I can handle it. I need to run tests on the new equipment meant to combat the Honkai."
Unfazed by her resistance, Kevin took matters into his own hands, quite literally, by gently lifting her from her workstation, leaving behind the papers strewn on the desk. Safely settled in her quarters, she protested, "Hey, Kevin! Release me! Your icy hands might give me frostbite!"
With a calm expression, Kevin clarified, "I am wearing gloves. That's besides the point."
He placed her on the bed as Dr. MEI groaned and sat up, displaying obvious signs of sleepiness. "mmmm... I still have tests to run," she murmured, her determination wavering.
Undeterred, Kevin removed her lab coat and eased her back onto the bed, encouraging her to rest. "I will have Mobius or Aeon run the tests for you," he suggested.
Despite her weak protests and feeble struggles to resist, Dr. MEI's exhaustion was apparent as her resistance faded. "No...oo," she weakly mumbled.
Meeting her tired gaze with a firm stare, Kevin insisted, "Sleep." With her strength waning and eyelids growing heavier, Dr. MEI finally relented, whispering, "Hmm... Okay..." Thus, surrendering to much-needed rest as the weight of weariness overtook her.
On the following day, Dr. MEI had just wrapped up her tasks in the laboratory when she felt the need to take a break. Feeling a bit stiff from hours of work, she instinctively stretched her body. It was then that she noticed Kevin across the room. After a brief moment of contemplation, Dr. MEI stood up and gently patted Mobious on the shoulder. "Mobious, I'll be leaving early today. You can handle the rest," she informed him.
Startled by the unexpected touch on her shoulder, Mobious turned around, a mix of confusion and curiosity evident on her face. "Wait, why..." she began to question, but Dr. MEI had already started walking away towards Kevin. With a warm smile, she approached him and asked, "All done with your shift?"
In response, Kevin greeted her with a reserved smile. "Yep, ready to grab some food?" he suggested.
Dr. MEI nodded in agreement, and the two of them strolled together towards the exit. "You Definitely craving those noodles today, don't you think?" she remarked, already anticipating the familiar taste that awaited them.
Mobious, clearly irritated by the close dynamic between MEI and Kevin, raised her voice with a sharp tone, "Those two..." She swiftly removed her glasses and let out an exasperated click of her tongue before reprimanding them.
Pardo, leaning in with a hint of observation, made an astute remark, "They've been awfully chummy lately, haven't they?"
Elysia, catching onto the shared sentiment, inched closer and chimed in, "I see I'm not the only one who's picked up on that."
Caught off guard by the unexpected company in her workspace, Mobious erupted, "What on earth are the two of you doing here? Out, now!" With a swift motion, she ushered them out of the lab, sealing the metal doors behind them with a resounding thud.
The brief disruption did not escape Eden's notice. She sighed as she observed the amusing yet oblivious nature of MEI and Kevin's interactions.
"It's incredible how clueless they are about their own behavior," she murmured, her expression a mix of amusement and exasperation.
Elysia, ever playful, responded with a sly grin, "Oh, those two are definitely up to something, aren't they?" Eden, maintaining her composure, simply raised an eyebrow before returning her focus to her work.
Elysia, feeling curious and excited, was quick to take a few steps forward before stating, "I'll go and check and see what they are up to," eager to satisfy her curiosity about the private affair between Kevin and MEI.
Eden, feeling exasperated, let out a deep sigh and swiftly reached out to grab Elysia's shoulder, gently pulling her away from the scene. "Elly, don't be like that," she said in a calm tone, reminding her of the importance of respecting their privacy, especially since they all had work to focus on at the moment.
With a playful pout, Elysia whined, "noo~ I want to see something good! Pardo! Go and check them for me!" She appealed to Pardo, who, ever also curious, responded with a respectful nod and a salute. Without further delay, Pardo briskly dashed off to investigate, ensuring Elysia wouldn't be dragged away by Eden in her pursuit of satisfying her curiosity.
Meanwhile, as time passes by, Dr. MEI and Kevin both head to their usual restaurant. Dr. MEI savors her exquisite delicacy while Kevin indulges in his all-time favorite noodles once again. Mei then gently takes a handkerchief designed with ice resistance and wipes Kevin's face. "Don't rush, just slow down," she advises with a caring tone. Kevin grunts in response but continues enjoying his meal. Dr. MEI, with a barely visible soft smile, maintains her professional demeanor while observing Kevin with subtle warmth, trying to balance her personal and professional interactions.
After enjoying their meal at the restaurant, they strolled leisurely back to their respective quarters engaging in light, casual conversation along the way. As they sauntered, MEI suddenly tripped, causing her to lose her balance. Without a moment's hesitation, Kevin instinctively reached out, preventing her from falling and inadvertently drawing her closer to him.
The unexpected closeness made MEI acutely aware of the contrast in temperatures between them, her chest lightly pressed against his as their eyes locked in an almost intimate gaze, their lips mere inches apart. Time seemed to stand still in that fleeting moment until Kevin abruptly withdrew, his demeanor quickly shifting to a more distant and reserved stance. He asked with concern, "Are you okay?"
MEI, still slightly shaken by the sudden turn of events, managed to reply, "I'm...I'm fine..."
Their gazes lingered for a brief moment longer before both averting their eyes.
Breaking the silence, Dr. MEI spoke softly, "It's been nice spending time together again... Well... I'll see you tomorrow?"
Kevin nodded in acknowledgment, his response a terse grunt.
With a quiet nod of farewell, they bid each other good night, their paths diverging as they headed off in separate directions, each lost in their own thoughts and emotions.
The romantic scene unfolding under the night sky was not a private moment between the two of them. Unbeknownst to the couple, a small 'cat' emerged from the bushes, her eyes widening in surprise at the sight before her. After a quick glance, she couldn't help but exclaim softly, "Oh my god... They really are together," effectively capturing the unexpected reaction of the unexpected observer to the pair's relationship revelation.
As the next few days passed, they found themselves drawn closer to each other, engaging in private discussions about their shared plans. Despite the watchful eyes of both colleagues and friends, their interaction was met with raised eyebrows and guarded expressions, with Elysia adding a touch of amusement to the observations with her sly grin of "oho~ look at them."
Hua caught sight of MEI and Kevin in the distance, causing her to reflect, "I never imagined they had that kind of connection."
Mobious, ever nonchalant, responded with a casual shrug and a disapproving click of his tongue, remarking, "tsk, meh, they used to hang out together back in school, if I recall correctly."
When Hua pressed for further details, asking, "How do you know?"
Mobious simply shrugged again, revealing, "I only found out because she was a prodigy, while he seemed to follow along. Surprisingly, he proved himself skilled in combat," punctuating his words with a sip of his coffee.
Expanding her knowledge, Mobious continued, "Moreover, Su and he were also classmates in the same school," nodding towards the doctor as he shared this tidbit of information.
Su, in turn, chuckled lightly and mused, "Indeed, it's been quite a while since I last saw them interact like this."
Meanwhile, Elysia maintained her playful demeanor, leaning in towards Eden and teasing, "Oh~ could this be a rekindling of love?"
Eden responded with a soft smile and a few delicate giggles, admitting, "I initially brushed it off, but it seems Elysia and Pardo have picked up on something."
Pardo, feeling a sense of pride, adopted a smug expression and chimed in happily, "hehe." Sensing the shift in conversation, MEI and Kevin turned their attention towards the group, prompting MEI to inquire, "Hm? What's the discussion about?"
Su simply shrugged and diverted their attention, remarking, "Oh, it's just about our plans after our shifts..." Suddenly, Pardo checked the time on her phone, feigned sudden urgency, and exclaimed, "Oh no! I just remembered an urgent mission I must attend to!" With that, she hurriedly excused herself and made a swift exit.
In the wake of her departure, Mobious announced, "I'll be in my lab; come along, Klein," before departing with her assistant, the heavy metal door sliding shut behind them. Su, too, got up, revealing her next destination, as she declared, "I'll be in the infirmary checking on the patients with Aponia."
Left slightly puzzled by the sudden flurry of activity, MEI turned to Elysia for an explanation, questioning, "Wait... Why is everyone suddenly...?" Elysia, seizing the opportunity, intervened smoothly, exclaiming, "Oops! It seems I have some other matters to attend to. Right, Eden?" Eden nodded in agreement, prompting Elysia to add, "See? We must be off, bye MEI~" With synchronized laughter, Eden and Elysia departed quickly, leaving MEI and Kevin to exchange puzzled shrugs before returning to their respective tasks
As a few more days passed by, Dr. Mei found herself back at the mechanical engineering department, making her way to the workshop where she encountered the imposing sight of the giant golden robot, Aeon. "Aeon, how is project Selene progressing?" she inquired with a mix of curiosity and anticipation.
Aeon, engrossed in its task of working on the large super weapon, responded, "Dr. Mei, the project is still in construction. Initial analysis indicates that construction is proceeding smoothly, with completion currently estimated at 9%."
Pensive, Dr. Mei mulled over this information, nodding thoughtfully. "Hmm, I see. Well, progress is progress," she acknowledged with a hint of optimism.
An uneasy silence lingered briefly before Aeon spoke up, mentioning overhearing discussions among the workers. "I gathered bits of conversations circulating around, mostly about external chatter," Aeon revealed.
Dr. Mei's curiosity was piqued as she raised an eyebrow inquiringly, "Conversations? Are these mere rumors?"
Aeon confirmed, "Affirmative."
Dr. Mei pressed on, intrigued, "And what kind of rumors are circulating?"
Aeon's mechanical eyes focused intently as it disclosed, "From my observations, I've come across rumors about you and Subject Kevin becoming closer recently."
Caught off guard, Dr. Mei felt a wave of emotions pass through her, a mix of embarrassment, fear, and speechlessness, despite maintaining a composed exterior befitting her role as the head scientist. "That's merely hearsay," she hastily interjected.
Aeon leaned in closer, his massive metallic head almost intimidatingly near, and continued, "I even spotted the two of you together outside during work hours. What about the affectionate display noted during a recent meeting?"
Dr. Mei found herself at a loss for words, her eyes shutting briefly in an attempt to compose herself before responding. The weight of the situation lingered as she chose to remain silent, contemplating the implications of the rumors surrounding her interactions with Kevin.
The scene unfolded in the workshop as the towering Giant robot fixed its gaze upon the female head Scientist, Dr. MEI. In a stern yet reassuring tone, the robot conveyed, "Must I reiterate, Dr. MEI, that failing to voice your needs may lead to missed opportunities and burdens for Subject MEI."
With a heavy sigh, Dr. MEI halted her attempt to shut the world out by closing her eyes. Her hesitation was palpable as she averted her gaze, struggling to find the words to convey her thoughts. Sensing her inner turmoil, the Giant robot probed gently, "Is there a reason you find it challenging to confide in someone close, as I suggested?"
Another sigh escaped Dr. MEI as she confessed, "Not exactly... I suppose I just haven't given it much thought." She began to open up, admitting, "At times, I have pondered sharing, but I lack the words to articulate my feelings. Why do you want to know?"
In its own mechanical way, the machine sought to reveal its understanding, sharing, "I have interacted closely with a 'human' in the past, granting me a unique insight into human emotions."
As Dr. MEI mustered the courage to meet the robot's gaze, she found herself guided to a serene spot within the workshop. Gesturing towards a chair and table, the Giant robot offered a safe haven, urging, "If you feel inclined to open up, feel free within the confines of my workshop."
After a moment of contemplative silence, Dr. MEI settled into the chair, visibly easing into the comfort of the surroundings. "I've been contemplating a conversation with... him," she admitted softly, uncertain of where to begin.
The Giant robot, ever the encouraging force, directed, "Do it"
Perplexed, Dr. MEI sought clarity, questioning, "What do you mean?"
With unwavering resolve, the robot reiterated, "Just do it"
Dr. MEI, caught between hesitation and longing, stuttered, "I... I suppose..."
Reaffirming its advice, the Giant robot's voice grew more adamant, "Seize this moment. Be direct with him. Leave behind ambiguity and pretense. Do it"
Puzzled yet intrigued by the machine's unexpected insights into matters of the heart, Dr. MEI found herself grappling with the decision of whether to heed its counsel regarding matters of love.
MEI then Scratches her head with a puzzled expression and slowly nodded, her eyes showing a hint of hesitation, "alright, I'll try to articulate my feelings more clearly... Hmm, this might be a good exercise for me."
MEI's gaze shifted towards the rough designs scattered on the paper-littered table, prompting her to inquire, "What purpose do these sketches serve?"
Aeon, the towering golden-framed robot, responded with a hint of pride in its metallic voice, "Ah, these are my personal creations. The schematics you see here represent my intricate designs for various projects."
Curiosity piqued, MEI queried, "And what particular project does this one entail?"
Aeon swiveled its mechanical head towards the partially complete blueprint and explained, "This work-in-progress project, named Selene after your concept, involves innovative technologies. I have devised a compact Honkai energy converter and a blueprint for human augmentation. By synergizing these elements, we can potentially harness Honkai energy to enhance the human body, allowing it to withstand extreme conditions effectively."
Pondering Aeon's explanation, MEI responded thoughtfully, "A fascinating design indeed. However, the notion of augmenting humans raises ethical concerns. Are we proposing to transform individuals into part-machine entities?"
Aeon clarified, "While the augmentation includes advanced enhancements, essential human functions and needs remain untouched, preserving the integrity of the individual. Nonetheless, this concept is still in the developmental stage."
MEI then said, "hmm... I see. Well, I have to leave it to you once more in this one. Wait..." She then paused, her thoughtful expression indicating a contemplative moment as she pondered the situation at hand.
The large golden robot, Aeon, turned its attention towards MEI and inquired, "Is something the matter, Dr. MEI?"
Responding to Aeon's concern, Dr. MEI reconsidered her decision, her tone conveying a sense of responsibility and care. "On second thought, let me handle this little project of yours. I understand the weight on your shoulders, and this is the least I could do to assist you."
Aeon acknowledged MEI's offer with a mechanical nod and replied, "Very well."
MEI, intrigued by the potential capabilities of the project, further inquired, "Is it strong enough to handle Honkai energies akin to a Herrscher's core?"
Aeon confidently confirmed, "Affirmative, I have actually designed a mini-Selene device, although it has not been tested yet. You can find my design right over there."
MEI, satisfied with Aeon's response, nodded in approval. "Right. Then I will take these items as well. I will be leaving now to handle the testing of these devices." With determination in her eyes, she prepared to take on the task at hand, ensuring that the project would progress smoothly under her careful supervision.
As weeks seamlessly flowed by, Mei found herself enveloped in an unrelenting vortex of activity within the confines of her laboratory. Her days were consumed by the meticulous tinkering of gears and the intricate assembly of experimental apparatuses. Despite the relentless march of time, which seemed to evaporate amidst her scientific pursuits, Mei's resolve remained unwavering. With unwavering focus, she meticulously scrutinized every detail, her mind a tapestry woven with complex equations and innovative ideas.
The culmination of one particularly arduous day brought with it a profound sense of accomplishment. As she meticulously completed her tasks with unwavering precision, a surge of satisfaction coursed through her veins. The fruits of her labor, the tangible manifestation of her scientific endeavors, filled her with a quiet pride.
The following day, as she encountered Kevin in the bustling hallway of the research facility, her mind drifted back to Aeon's sage advice, nudging her towards a moment of introspection and resolve.
With a quiet sigh of contemplation, Mei steeled herself with a sense of determination before striding purposefully towards him. Drawing closer, she paused to gather her thoughts, inhaling deeply to steady her nerves before finally mustering the courage to speak. "Kevin," she began, her voice laced with a mix of urgency and sincerity, "there's something important I need to share with you..."
Kevin, his expression unreadable, turned his gaze towards Mei as she approached, his steely eyes meeting hers with a hint of curiosity."Yes?" he responded, his tone neutral yet tinged with a hint of intrigue.
Undeterred, Dr. Mei offered a soft, reassuring smile, the anticipation of finally addressing the matters weighing on her mind evident in her demeanor. With a determined glint in her eye, she leaned in slightly, her voice lowered to a conspiratorial whisper. "Come, I have something to tell you in private," she suggested, her words laced with a sense of confidentiality. "Let's go to my quarters."
As moments stretched into an eternity, Kevin's initial skepticism gradually gave way to a sense of reluctant curiosity, his steps echoing softly against the corridor as he followed Mei towards her secluded workspace. With a sense of purpose, he reached out to knock on the sturdy metal door, the sound resounding in the hushed hallway before the door slid open with a soft hiss.
Peering out from behind the door, Dr. Mei's face lit up in recognition as she caught sight of Kevin."Ah, you've arrived," she greeted him warmly, her inviting smile welcoming him into the sanctuary of her quarters. "Please, come in."
As Dr. MEI opened the door to her quarters, she allowed Kevin to step inside. She immediately moved to the kitchen area and began preparing coffee, her movements efficient and practiced. She retrieved two cups from the cabinet, setting them on the counter before filling them with the freshly brewed coffee.
After placing the cups on the table, she arranged the chairs and motioned for Kevin to sit. "Please, sit so we can talk," she said, her voice calm but inviting.
Kevin nodded, taking the seat opposite her. A heavy silence filled the room, thick with unspoken words and unresolved emotions. Dr. MEI took a moment to collect her thoughts, searching for a way to break the silence.
She looked up and smiled gently, trying to ease the tension. "Do you remember the time we talked about what we would do once we defeated the Honkai?"
Kevin's eyes, usually cold and stoic, showed a flicker of remembrance. "You mean the restaurant," he said slowly, his voice low.
MEI nodded and took a sip of her coffee. "Mhm... that's right," she continued. "I wasn't able to say what was truly on my mind back then..."
Her gaze strayed to the past as she hesitated. "The conversations we had and the enjoyable hours we spent together in class... I now see that I never gave you the right thanks for everything."
Kevin's expression shifted slightly, his eyes widening in mild shock. He looked at MEI, her face now betraying her true feelings.
MEI's eyes sparkled with gratitude as she held
Kevin's gaze, the corners of her lips turning up in a gentle, sincere smile. "Kevin, without your support and unwavering belief in me, I would never have been able to step up and do my part in protecting humanity. Your faith in me gave me the strength and opportunity to make a difference."
She took a deep breath, her voice steady yet filled with emotion. "Kevin, I love you."
Kevin heard her words, the words he never thought he would hear after the collapse and the Honkai eruption had severed the life they could have had together. His cold gaze betrayed a swirl of emotions—happiness, fear, and a deep, unexpected conflict.
"...MEI... I'm glad you feel that way, but I can't..." he began, his voice laden with the weight of his augmented and experimented body. His body, perpetually cold below zero, couldn't touch anything without highly advanced equipment like special gloves and clothes to handle his freezing temperature. He started to rise from his chair.
Dr. MEI quickly interjected, "Wait..."
The room fell silent again.
"I know this is late," she continued, her voice trembling slightly, "but you've pushed yourself and pursued me all these years." She looked down, her voice filled with the irony of their reversed roles. "You never stopped..."
Kevin, the one who had pursued her in their younger years, now found himself being reached out to by MEI. She stood up from the table and approached him.
Kevin also stood, panic flaring in his eyes. "MEI, wait, don't—" he pleaded, terrified of freezing her to death.
MEI moved closer, her lips brushing his in a tender kiss. To Kevin's astonishment, nothing happened. They stood there, their lips finally in contact after so many years of knowing each other, in a silent, intimate moment.
When MEI broke the kiss, she took off her lab coat, revealing her new nightwear black and purple undergarments, however it was made very intricate and detailed with slight technological advancements on her shoulder straps and the glowing red heat emanating from her undergarments area as she unbuttoned her shirt. Her eyes met his, filled with determination and love.
Basically... She made a god key out of Sexy Lingerie, borrowing the Herrscher of flames from the Shamash.
"Kevin... You don't have to worry," she said softly. The Herrscher of Fire's core, placed near the back of her neck, glowed with a fierce warmth.
"I want to be close to you... And To make sure that our paths cross and that we may live in harmony together, I'm willing to go to tremendous lengths, make the necessary sacrifices, to be with you."
Her words hung in the air, a promise and a declaration, bridging the gap that the years and their battles had created.
Mei was about to kiss his lips again, her heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nervousness. At first, he was reluctant to respond to her advances, but then Kevin's hesitation faded as he patiently waited for her signal, his eyes gently closing as he awaited her next move.
As Mei leaned in, her cheeks started to flush pink, a telltale sign of her growing embarrassment. Feeling overwhelmed by emotions, she hesitated and slowly began to draw back from the kiss, her eyes seeking Kevin's reaction.
"Mei?" Kevin's voice broke through the charged moment, filled with concern as he noticed her sudden change in demeanor.
Caught off guard by her own emotions, Mei blushed furiously, her attempt to appear composed crumbling as she struggled to find the right words. She tried to cover up her vulnerability by shielding her body with her hands and arms, protecting her exposed skin and lingerie.
"Mei, are you okay?" Kevin's voice softened, his worry evident as he reached out to comfort her.
"I'm not!" She stutters with a tone of nervous uncertainty, her voice faltering as she struggles to articulate her thoughts.
"I'm not experienced with this sort of situation," she continues hesitantly, her demeanor revealing a mix of confusion and self-consciousness.
Still feeling vulnerable, she instinctively shields her seductive body with a protective gesture, using her hands and arms to discreetly cover her alluring curves, including her ample breasts and the intricate lace of her black lingerie.
"I was just... trying to convey what my heart was feeling, okay?" Her words trail off, conveying a sense of vulnerability and longing beneath the surface bravado.
"... Alright... Let's take it slow..."
"Right, right... So..."
"... Yes... Let's do it"

"Ara~ ara~ look at them go~" Elysia said playfully, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she observed Kevin and MEI fully engaged in their intimate moment. The door to MEI's quarters stood ajar, inviting curious glances and whispers from onlookers.
"Oh~ oh! Look at that," Eden exclaimed, joining Elysia at the doorway, her eyes widening in surprise and amusement.
Pardofelis, standing nearby, couldn't tear her gaze away, transfixed by the rare display of passion unfolding before her. "Uwa.... Never seen MEI and Kevin this passionate... Let alone make any expression like that!" she gasped in amazement, drawing the attention of Elysia and Eden, who nodded in agreement, their gaze fixed on the scene.
"Are you three just going to stand here and watch?" Aponia, ever the voice of reason, remarked with a deadpan expression. "You could at least close the door."
"Come on now, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!" Elysia defended their actions with a playful smile, refusing to budge.
Aponia, unmoved, shook her head disapprovingly. "That's just wrong," she stated firmly.
As if on cue, the metallic door slid shut, the mechanical voice of Aeon chiming in matter-of-factly, "Her reasoning is logical and morally correct."
"Ehhh~, Uncle, you're no fun~," Elysia pouted good-naturedly, while Eden and Pardofelis shared in the embarrassment, realizing the inappropriateness of their voyeuristic behavior.
"Now, now, my calculations are concluded, and it's time for you to went to your quarters," Aeon spoke mechanically through the speakers as he cut himself off, the faint hum of technology filling the air.
"Oh well, it was fun while it lasted~," Elysia shrugged with a warm smile as she waved her hand, a sense of lightheartedness permeating the moment. "I'll be on my way now~," she added before gracefully making her exit.
Eden nodded in agreement, her posture poised and determined. "Yes, I should also go as well and check my pistols before went to bed," she mentioned with a hint of responsibility in her tone, the metallic echoes of her footsteps accompanying her departure through the hallway.
"Well, I guess I should go too-erk!?" Pardofelis jerked in surprise as Aponia's firm grip halted her escape, the atmosphere suddenly tense. "I think I heard Mobious say her underwear is missing... Out of all things? Care to explain?" Aponia's voice was steady, demanding an explanation.
"It was an accident! I swear! I swear! I just saw it was shiny! Honest! AAAAAH!" Pardofelis's desperate screams echoed into the distance, fading into the background.
