Nathan Cole frowned; something was off. Matilda Jenkins wouldn't normally sleep this heavily.
Nathan pushed open the door, entered, and approached the bed, but before he could speak, he noticed Matilda's face flushed red; he quickly reached out and touched it—burning hot.
Frightened, Nathan urgently pushed her: "Matilda Jenkins… Matilda Jenkins…"
Matilda was feverish and delirious, murmuring something in her sleep.
Nathan muttered to himself: "I knew it, with this weather, how could she sit outside? Now she's sick."
He got up intending to change clothes and take Matilda to the hospital.
But just as he stood up, his wrist was grabbed.
Matilda's hand was also scorching hot, making Nathan shudder.
He looked down and saw Matilda had awakened at some point, her dark eyes fixated on him with a silly smile: "Nathaniel York, you're finally back... I thought you were avoiding me for a lifetime…"
