Mount Oe in the Present World is located at the base of the Tango Peninsula in Kyoto Prefecture, spanning the towns of Yosano, Fukuchiyama City, and Miyazu City.
Starting from the north, the mountain range includes Kamasaka, Hatonomine, Senjodake, and Akaishi-dake. Senjodake is the highest peak, officially measured at an elevation of 832.5 meters, the entire area is designated as Japan's national park.
Moreover, because it is the birthplace of the Legend of Shuten Douji, the area around Mount Oe still attracts quite a number of tourists for sightseeing.

It is still deep winter in February, and there are no signs of people in the mountains; even the beasts seem to have hibernated, perhaps due to their keen senses detecting some dangerous aura.
