"I tried to find the memory where she met that man," he finally said after several long moments of silence.
His tone was flat yet laced with a strange relief. "But I could not find it—that is why I purified her."
I exhaled slowly, a shudder of relief mingling with reluctant hope. For a moment, I allowed myself a fleeting comfort. If the unwanted memory was excised from her mind, perhaps the horrors of that night might be eased.
"What will happen to her now?" I asked, my voice low as I searched his eyes for any hint of remorse or second thought.
He offered a wry smile that did little to conceal his satisfaction. "She will no longer remember that particular memory—only the day you left her will remain imprinted in her mind."
