Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Interview

At this early hour of the morning, the park was surprisingly bustling with activity. Amidst the joggers and dog walkers, there was a group of mages walking around, their robes billowing in the gentle breeze. Their attention seemed to be fixed on Yuki, who was seated on a bench, eyes closed and deep in meditation. The mages' curious gazes lingered on Yuki as if they were trying to discern something about him or his meditation practice.

Yuki had started to walk around the place.

Feeling completely different, he tried to do some regular stretches by squats, jumping jacks, and pushups.

Cultivation is such a marvel! He secretly wanted to yell this out loud, but he truly felt like a new person.

As he was filled with excitement, he couldn't help but challenge himself to a race around the playground area of the park. The playground was a perfect square, measuring 40 feet in both length and width. Though an unusual measurement, the symmetry of the square added to the aesthetic appeal of the playground.

"Here I go!" With a determined look on his face, he took off, pushing his body to its limits. His feet pounded the ground as he ran at his top speed, circling the playground again and again. In just one minute, he had lapped around it more than 10 times.

He then decided to have a more accurate measurement of his speed.

By simply running a hundred-meter dash, it should give him the insight he needs to comprehend his level of momentum.

He sprinted with gust and ran at his full speed and might. If anyone was spectating him, they would've thought that he was using some kind of enhancement magic to boost his physical abilities.

"That was... about 6 seconds."

The average time for a person to finish a hundred-meter dash was around 14-17 seconds, while the fastest time ran as the world record was a little under 10 seconds.

Yuki was flabbergasted at how fast he ran and wondered if he should solely focus on cultivating instead of learning magic.

"It's hard to believe that I was able to run faster than one of the most renowned athletes in my world. I can hardly contain my excitement!"

"Now its time to go ahead and pass my interview! Now that I think about it if I fail this interview, that means I might be bankrupt for a while, going hungry and having no place to live."

Yuki felt pressured by this dilemma he was in and solidified his willpower.

"I will definitely ace this interview!"

It was now 4-pm and it was his time to enter the administration building once again.

"I'm here for my interview sir." Yuki said in a light tone.

"Oh yes, your name is Yuki correct? The person who is going to do your interview will be to the right of this hallway on the left of the next door," The receptionist pointed.

He began to walk over to where the receptionist pointed.

Entering the office area, he was greeted by an old man, wearing scholarly clothes.

"Hello, I presume that you are the person who is requesting for a job at my academy? Yuki was it?"

For some reason this desk and office looked quite big and was decorated with my trophies that worked as decoration for achievements that were linked to this school. The person who was in charge of the interview seemed to have a delicate face, long white hair, and an ancient stature to him. He wore the blackest robe with dark blue stripes across the outline of his clothes inferring that he was a man with great pride and integrity.

An old man is interviewing me? is this a senior or an instructor that has a profound background at this institution? Wait it couldn't be...

Yuki's gaze was fixed on the magical frame that sat on the table in front of them. The frame was adorned with the word 'Principal Eddison' written in black ink, which gave it a dark and mysterious appearance.

"Principal, are you going to interview me personally? Yuki was delighted but shaken at the same time.

The role of the principal in this particular school was far from ordinary. It was a place where magic was not only accepted but also nurtured and encouraged. Yuki couldn't help but wonder what kind of extraordinary abilities the principal possessed. If the mages he had seen before could wield the power of natural disasters like lightning and light, then he could only imagine the sheer magnitude of the principal's powers. Yuki speculated that the principal might even be capable of invoking catastrophic events like snow storms or blizzards.

Yuki understood all of this in detail so he was no slow learner.

"Yes, as the principal, I will be interviewing you in person."

"I will start by asking four questions."

"First question: What is your elemental affinity?"

"Sorry, I don't know what elemental affinity I have; I haven't gotten the chance to practice magic yet," Yuki explained in a neat fashion.

The principal was curious, "You mean you haven't even checked your magic affinity? Quite interesting. Here, place your hand on this"

The principal then waved his hand; inside a desk drawer, a white ball made with crystal like property was pulled, sending it directly to his hand.

"Touch this with your hand."

Yuki slowly proceeded to come directly in front of the orb. He moved his hand toward the crystal ball and touched it. It was shining with rays of light, glistening with magic particles that he had never seen before. The colors then slowly dimmed and was reforged to its main form. There was a white texture inside the orb, a blizzard that looked like it was fleeting from its container.

"I suppose that this means you a natural affinity with ice, a great one at that," the principal sounding impressed at the magnitude of the color.

"Second question: What is your background like?"

"Third question: If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?"

Yuki had answered these two questions easily and told the truth. He said he wasn't from this province or land and that he wanted to change his families income situation. He had always wanted to become rich so he could buy and play all the games he ever wanted in a nice and comfortable home.

"Fourth and final Question: Why do you want to apply for the librarian position at this school?"

"All I ever wanted was to become a mage, but unfortunately, my situation has turned for the worse, and I'm flat broke. I can't afford any expenses until I find a paying job that will fill the hole in my income. I also aspire to be a mage that can protect and save others, having the power to explore the world and find its' truths," Yuki said inspirationally.

Both the principal and Yuki were frozen for a minute, having separate thoughts about each other, analyzing the situation at hand, and deciding whats to come after.

The principal finally said, "You can start the job in the next two days, I will prepare everything for you by notifying the other staff members that a new librarian will be starting on the weekdays. Please keep in mind the work you are about to do is no joke as the books inside the library come with great knowledge."

The principal secretly implied that the books inside the library were invaluable with the wisdom that a person could possess if stolen or unreturned to their shelves. He also wanted Yuki to know that the library was a sacred place and possessed crucial information about the world of magic.

Yuki wanted one last thing, "Is it alright if I can live in one of the dorms? As I said before, I don't really have any place to stay. I would be eternally grateful if you could allow me, a mere staff employee, to do so despite the weird circumstances I'm in.

The principal was intrigued, "You may stay in one of the student dorms if you wish- I will send this information to the instructors and people in my care as we speak."

"Thank you, principal," Yuki said so gratefully.

"You may call me Eddison if you would like," Principal Eddison chuckled.

I must repay all of the favors I owe to the people who were all so kind to me.
