"Because it's forbidden," Medusa replied, her tone growing serious. "Even if someone sees the true form of the transcript, they can't use it anymore."
"Why's it forbidden?" Ryu asked, his curiosity piqued.
Medusa glanced around for a moment, making sure no one else was listening before she spoke again. "Magic, especially the kind you're talking about, can be... dangerous. When people started abusing it, trying to bend it to their will, it led to chaos. So, the ruling powers decided to seal it away, lock it up where no one can use it."
Alex nodded. "Sounds like something out of a dark history book."
Medusa snorted. "I suppose you could say that. But the more you try to hide something, the more tempting it becomes."
Ryu mulled over her words. "So, if it's forbidden, how do people still use magic?"
"Some learned how to manipulate the fragments that remain, or found loopholes," Medusa explained. "It's not as powerful as it once was, but it still has its uses."
