Leonardo, who had just returned, was walking through the hallway when he heard the soft sound of laughter drifting from Isabella's room. At first, he thought he misheard but the light, cheerful giggles continued, and something about it made his steps pause.

The private doctor walking beside him felt the shift in air. The warmth in the corridor disappeared like it never existed. A chill crawled up the doctor's spine as he glanced nervously at Leonardo, whose sharp jaw clenched tightly, eyes darkening with unreadable emotion.

Inside, Isabella was sitting up on bed, her face glowing with joy as she teased Jay, who was laughing along like a little kid. Their fingers were still tangled in a pinky promise, and the tray of untouched fruits sat between them.
