Theia had been avoiding this conversation for three days. Every time she spotted Evander's red hair in the corridors, she found urgent business elsewhere. Equipment checks that didn't need checking. Training sessions that ran mysteriously long.
But avoidance had its limits in a military facility.
He found her in the secondary armory, supposedly inspecting energy cell calibrations that the Tech had already verified twice an hour ago. His approach was professionally calm - but she expected the undercurrent was of an antsy personal intent.
"Theia."
"Squad Leader."
She didn't look up from the diagnostic readings. Numbers and words she wasn't actually watching. Her head was instead imagining every possible crushed reaction on a black haired woman's face.
When he'd told her whatever he did that made her start acting like that.
"We need to discuss recent developments."
