The Rhine Lab operatives detained in the building were divided into two units: Unit A for women and Unit B for men.
Though effectively imprisoned, given that Rhine Lab had the backing of Columbia, the Sargon Lord Ameers didn't dare outright declare it as such.
Thus, they publicly maintained the narrative that the operatives who had successfully returned from the Hotlands were merely "guests," rather than prisoners held for the treasures they acquired there.
Within the building's Unit A, Saria's room was the most luxurious, situated on the top floor. Kal'tsit's room was next in status, located right next to Saria's.
The commotion in the city didn't escape Kal'tsit's attention. Though Saria hadn't shared any details, Kal'tsit suspected that Garde had arrived.
Aside from Garde, she couldn't think of anyone else capable of causing such chaos—a colossal figure shrouded in shadow.
An Adakrys who might have a Feranmut sealed within.
A seasoned warrior.
In a head-on confrontation, even if the entire Ibut Lord Ameer soldier were involved, the odds of prevailing against Garde were slim.
Yet Kal'tsit didn't want Garde clashing with the Sargon Lord Ameers.
A millennium ago, a Feranmut of his power could have rampaged across the land unhindered. If he wanted to escape, no nation could have truly captured him.
But now, in an era of advanced Originium engines, the mystique of Feranmuts had long been unraveled, and countless tactics had been developed to deal with them.
Even Feranmuts must abide by the order of this land!
The Ibut Lord Ameer hadn't confiscated their communication devices, so Kal'tsit was still able to contact Scout and others hidden within the city. Before long, she received a report:
"A massive figure cloaked in shadows attacked the Ibut Lord Ameer's estate and abducted two of the three Lord Ameers, sparing only the Ibut Lord Ameer. The Ibut Lord Ameer is now organizing a rescue operation for the other two."
"No casualties?"
"There are some injured, but none seriously."
"I see."
Kal'tsit ended the call, noting that Garde had exercised restraint. What puzzled her, however, was why Garde had taken the two other Lord Ameers but ignored the main culprit behind the current situation.
Unless...
Kal'tsit's face grew contemplative. If someone were aiding Garde, who would have the audacity to aim for Ibut Lord Ameer's life?
A distant memory resurfaced in Kal'tsit's mind, and she suddenly thought of someone.
Elliot!
A figure of a young Liberi boy emerged in her thoughts, and Kal'tsit sighed inwardly.
"Elliot, after all these years, has time still not dulled your hatred?"
Over the past days, Kal'tsit hadn't been idle. She had Scout and others gather evidence of the Ibut Lord Ameer's crimes and intelligence on the Ibut region.
One detail stood out: Rhine Lab had once received assistance from a proxy in the Reefsteep black market. If the boy she had saved years ago had survived and grown into a black market agent, it wouldn't be surprising.
Of course, this was merely Kal'tsit's speculation, but the clues pointed to one conclusion: she believed she was close to uncovering the truth.
Still, rather than dwelling on her assumptions, Kal'tsit figured she could simply ask Garde. That crocodile man wasn't one to lie about such matters.
As this thought crossed her mind, Kal'tsit's train of thought broke abruptly.
Had her trust in that crocodile man reached such a level?
Sitting on the sofa, Kal'tsit poured herself a cup of coffee—the bitterest kind.
Kal'tsit sat silently, waiting for Garde's arrival.
Suddenly, she caught a faint breeze, followed by light footsteps. Instantly, her eyes opened, scanning toward the balcony. But there was nothing.
The footsteps hadn't landed on her balcony but instead on the other side.
He went to see Saria first?
Kal'tsit pressed her lips together. Of course, this was the natural thing for Garde to do. He had no specific reason to come directly to her. His assault on the Ibut Lord Ameer's residence was likely to vent the frustrations of the person living next door to her.
So, she shouldn't feel disappointed.
"Huh?"
Behind Kal'tsit, Mon3tr's head emerged, curiously staring at the wall separating the two rooms.
This made Kal'tsit frown.
"Mon3tr, return. I didn't give you permission to come out."
"Hiss!"
Mon3tr let out a dissatisfied hiss but couldn't disobey Kal'tsit's orders, retreating to her side reluctantly.
Saria's suite and Kal'tsit's were adjacent. Typically, in designs like this, the living rooms were placed close together, while bedrooms were separated to maintain privacy.
In other words, the sofa Kal'tsit leaned against was directly separated by a wall from Saria's living room and sofa.
With her keen Feline hearing, Kal'tsit thought she could pick up fragments of conversation between Garde and Saria next door. Despite the suite's purpose as a reception room, the soundproofing was woefully inadequate.
This made Kal'tsit frown again.
However, it wasn't as if she was intentionally eavesdropping. She simply sipped the coffee in her hand—it was still bitter, barely touched.
Though the voices were faint, she had no reason to leave her spot to accommodate Saria and Garde's conversation.
Their voices continued to drift over intermittently.
"How long will you stay here?"
"I could stay..."
"You have your own goals to pursue."
"—before we part, can you stay with me a little longer?"
"Ms. Saria, I just hope you've cleared your schedule for tomorrow."
"..."
Hearing this, Kal'tsit finally realized something was amiss.
What were those two planning next door?
"Saria, if it hurts later, just let me know."
"I'm not that fragile."
"It's your first time; we need to prepare a bit."
"What are you planning to do!?"
Saria's flustered voice came through, uncharacteristic of the usually stern Vouivre woman.
"I've taken care of my claws over the past month. I won't hurt you."
"This... Huh... Where did you even learn something like this?"
"Does this really need to be taught?"
Saria's breathing grew heavier, and it sounded like the two were engaged in a fierce struggle. Against someone as strong as Garde, Saria seemed completely defenseless.
Kal'tsit closed her eyes, forcing herself to endure and convince herself otherwise. Yet, as she lifted her teacup, her trembling hand betrayed her inner turmoil.
Garde and Saria were actually doing that right next door!
"Hrrr?"
Mon3tr emerged again, confused, seemingly asking why Kal'tsit didn't go find Garde so it could chat with him instead.
"Quiet!" Kal'tsit hissed softly, afraid her voice might carry to Garde and Saria next door.
But the two, engrossed in their moment, were far too preoccupied to notice an old woman eavesdropping from the other side of the wall.
"I'm going in."
"Tha–That's impossible—there's no way something that big can go in!"
"You were the one who tempted me first, Ms. Saria. You're not backing out now, are you?"
"Call me Saria!"
"Alright, my Saria. Here I come."
Kal'tsit heard Saria's restrained voice, filled with pain—the pain of a woman's most precious first experience being torn away.
Kal'tsit knew all too well what Garde's monstrous male part was like. Considering the female Vouivre lower body part size, even if her insides are particularly stretchy, she couldn't even fathom how Saria could endure something like that.
She should've left by now, but Kal'tsit found her feet glued to the ground, unable to move.
It seemed Garde was using some method to ease Saria's pain.
And then they began to move!
The sounds were like a symphony of wind instruments, fluid yet intense, intertwining endlessly, like fish and dragons frolicking in water, stretching on without end.
Kal'tsit didn't sleep a wink that night.
