As a populous country in Africa, Congo has a population exceeding one hundred million, with 150 million hectares of arable land and rich mineral resources of all kinds. If fully utilized, it could resolve the grain shortage problem on its own and develop into an industrial nation.
However, like many African countries, Congo is now plagued by poverty, war, disease, and corruption, which afflict this country like a cancer that has penetrated deep into the bones and cannot be cured.
The slum is situated on both sides of a river, with houses built on stretchers of timber planks. Sewage from human factories and various kinds of garbage have long dyed the river water a murky black-purple color, exuding an unpleasant stench.
At sunset, a large number of impoverished people are either cooking, doing laundry, or children are jumping into the river, playing happily.
