"I'm sick of this joke," Darkness snapped, his jaw clenched tight as he turned and stormed out of the chapel.
Lilith didn't flinch. Her face was calm, almost unreadable, as she followed him, her steps slow but steady.
"Where are you going?" she asked, her voice soft but not weak.
"Away from you!" he shouted without looking back, his tone sharp and loud, echoing in the cold air.
Lilith watched him stomp back toward the suspension bridge. Her eyes narrowed slightly was he really that upset? She hadn't expected that. Quickly, she ran after him and caught up, grabbing his arm just before he stepped onto the shaky wooden planks.
"Leave me," he hissed, his voice low now, almost dangerous.
"Okay… don't be angry, alright?" she said gently, her fingers still holding him. "I didn't do anything. I wasn't trying to scare you."
He turned to face her slowly. The cold in his eyes made the winter wind feel even sharper.
