Kaito's eyes fluttered open, groggy and confused. His last memory was of walking home from a late-night gaming session when an unexpected accident had thrown him into darkness. Now, before him stretched an endless sky filled with twin moons, shining down on a vast forest of glowing flora. As he struggled to stand, a chime echoed in his head.
"Welcome, Host. You have been selected by the Eternal Trial System. Completing trials will grant you strength, but failure will lead to death. Good luck!"
He froze. The interface hovering before him was eerily similar to the status screens in his favorite RPGs. His stats were pitiful, but a single skill stood out: Adaptation (Passive). He sighed in relief—maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
As he wandered through the forest, the peaceful environment suddenly gave way to a group of aggressive beasts. With no combat experience and only his wits, he barely manages to fend them off. Just as he's about to lose hope, the system chimes again:
"Trial complete: Survive an ambush. Reward: Skill - Instant Reflex (Level 1)."
Kaito smiles, realizing that if he plays this right, he might just stand a chance in this world.
