Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: War For Throne(4)

Wren swung his chains.

As darkness was under his command, the chains rematerialized into multiple ones, binding each and everyone who was standing in his way.

The moment the chain made of darkness bound his enemies, he leapt into the air.

He felt the weight—crushing, but it didn't matter.

His dark armour had dissolved into his body, strengthening each muscle and then, he did what he was best at.

Chaos and Destruction.

That was what he caused.

His arms moved and following it were the chains, each time he swung those chains, enemy or ally alike got crushed by the bodies of the trapped followers.

They could breathe.

They could blink.

They could cry.

Hell, they were going to do it after all of that.

As he landed on the battlefield, his enemies surrounded him.

Except for the Changing Star, everyone else bound to the chains was thrown away, unconscious.

Only she was stuck, trying to escape the crushing grip of the dark chain, her consciousness was supposed to be gone by now.

But it was her will that maintained it.

'Why can't you just accept it, why...why...why...WHY!!' His thoughts were making him go more and more crazier.

His body moved.

And caused destruction and death.

Every time he smashed her to the floors, every time her weakening body hit the body of her followers, she didn't let go of her sword.

The white flames in her body and her eyes just burned more furiously.

Somewhere during the moment, Wren's resolve to break her will started to die down, it was getting frustrating for him.

Wanting to end things, he soared into the air once more.

As he reached mid-air, a flurry of arrows moved towards him, but it didn't affect him in the slightest.

Because he had the perfect meatshield. Heck, in a sense he was a type of meatshield too, just better.

Shifting his arms, he swung the chain once more, Nephis had already gone numb to the pain, few arrows sticking in her back was no big deal.

Suddenly...time seemed to go slow for him.

A silhouette of him was floating in mid-air, his appearance and everything about him was similar to Wren's except his eyes.

They were not dull grey, but a pool of nestled darkness.

It was Ark.

[It's time for you to kill her.] He said, as he observed the brutally mangled figure of Nephis, which was still healing.

[Wow, what a crazy aspect she has. I thin-] Before he could continue.

[Shut Up!] Wren shouted in his mind.

At his words, Ark started to laugh. It was not a normal one, Wren practically see his face distorting in a menacing grin, it made a chill go down his spine.

[HAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH! You....are pitying her? Or is your resolve this weak huh!] He grinned more menacingly.

[Heir to the Abyss! You are a puny and useless bitch! HAHAHAHAHA!] Ark laughed and laughed, his grin stretching wide and wide, to a point where his cheeks split and black blood flowed down.

But his laughter never stopped.

Gritting his teeth in anger, Wren pulled Nephis and then he...

Kicked her straight in her stomach.

The force was crushing and resulted in a crater as the two of them fell to the ground. People had evacuated at the right them, or they would become like mashed potatoes.

Dust and smoke rose from the impact.

Beneath his foot, was Nephis.

She was not moving until she did and her eyes still blazed with that will of her.

[Kill her.] Ark whispered those words in his ears.

[Kill her.]

[Kill her.]

[Kill her.]

His relentless whispers stopped after Wren picked Nephis up by the throat.

As he walked out of the crater, people became visible to him.

Everyone was shocked by the outcome.

No one had any words to describe it, the figure of Nephis was healing slowly and slowly, the loosening grip on her sword tightened, as she weakly raised it to attack him.

It was the last attempt of hers, and it was the last attempt of Wren to hold himself.

He grabbed her sword arm, and shook the sword off. Before Nephis could do anything, Wren opened his mouth and bit her wrist.

Her blood flowed from the bitten skin, which Wren subconsciously gulped down.

And then...

-shrik!

For the first time in her life, Nephis let out an inhuman and guttural scream.

Her whole arm was ripped out.

Silence.

Everyone was silent.

Because fear had taken over them.

Selina, Kai, Sunny, Effie, Cassie and even Harus were stunned.

What standing in front of them was not Wren, but a silhouette of primal chaos and darkness.

Wren threw Nephis away, he pulled the ripped-off arm out of his mouth and held it in his arms.

The silence felt good to him because his thoughts were going down into chaos.

Though the people waited for him, to do something, to say something but, nothing came out of his mouth, and nothing happened through his hands.

He had enough.

He started to walk away.

Leaving behind Nephis, who was now fully unconscious but still alive and recovering, her followers who had little courage stood around her.

Far away, Selina looked at the retreating figure of Wren.

Something was wrong with him.

***

-huff!

-huff!

It was getting harder for Wren to breathe.

'I...don't get it.' He laid down.

A few bruises he had accumulated healed, as he thought and thought.

'Where did things go wrong?'

His eyes returned to his normal dull grey colour, as he shut off his aspect. The voice of Ark diminished to oblivion, making him sigh in relief.

Wren was drained—mentally.

'I had my small yet pitiful revenge, but was it really worth it? In the end...I had left the battlefield, heck, it was never about the throne either.'

'I just wanted to have my revenge. It hurt my pride as a swordsman, my arm was basically my life. She, I don't know what she had gone through really, it should be something devastating enough.'

'Enough...to have those kind of eyes, when I had ripped off her arm. Now that I remember, I had...gulped down her blood.'

Wren immediately raised his body, his expression was that of disgust.

"Ah fuck, what kind of sadistic tendencies I have grown to." He muttered to himself, no one beside him was here in this room.

It was a secluded room in the Bright Castle.

Wren plopped down on the ground, using his arms as a headrest.

'I wonder what those guys are thinking right now, but there is one thing for sure...I need to stop using my aspect.'

'This is more like a curse now, surely my behaviour is a by-product of my flaw. Ark, in a way, is me, or maybe not, who knows probably the Abyss god.'

He thought jokingly, but even then his reasoning was real and serious.

'Ark is one thing, but what about my second flaw?' Wren truly wondered.

From the description, it sounded dangerous.

What would happen on the day, he goes unconscious?

"Hey, I know you are here, Sunny."

Silence.

"If you don't come out now, I will..." He suddenly stopped.

His expression turned slightly solemn.

"Just leave." He continued.

Suddenly someone stepped out of the shadows.

"Damnation."

Scratching the back of his head, Sunny smiled slightly. However that smile was forced, of course why wouldn't it be...

When a person who had ripped off someone's arm using his mouth, is sleeping on the ground with such nonchalance.

"You are sleeping here after causing that much trouble, what a bastard."

There was no humour in his words, if he knew what humour was in the first place.

"Sunny..." Wren muttered.

"Can you massage my legs?" He said.

His words made Sunny look like a dumb dwarf.

"Massage your legs? Sure, but let me cut them off first." He blurted out.

Wren suddenly started to laugh, it wasn't like his usual maniacal laugh but a sweet and melodious one.

"That's indeed not a good thing to hear, not after I had lost my arm once." He chuckled.

Sunny tilted his head in confusion.

'Did this guy just laugh normally?' He questioned his hearing and his eyesight. Surely, he wasn't blind like Cassie.

Anyway, it was for the better.

"You look a little tired, I don't think disturbing you right now is a good thing. Tell me if you have something to say to the others, they are waiting patiently for your answer after all."

Wren raised his body, sitting cross-legged, he looked at Sunny.

"Tell them, that I have lost. From now on, Changing Star will be their leader, she always was actually, but I could have taken it from her.

"Also, tell Nephis, to not disturb me or my subordinates. It would be better if you could inform them about this place, hmm... did you kill Caster?"

Sunny nodded at the question.

His approval made Wren raise a thumb of good work.

"So you are not going to..."

His words died in his mouth as Wren nodded in agreement.

"Yes, I am not going to fight in the last battle. But don't worry, I will always be watching you guys, so I might step up to help you." He replied with a smile, a normal one.

Sunny looked at his eyes but found no lie.

"Okay, huh...wait, can you give me the shard memory? We need it after all."

Wren looked at him with a confused expression.

"Why would I have it? I had already given it to you."

Silence.

Both of them looked at each other, one was stunned while the other one was just nonchalant.

Anyway, both of them were idiots.

Sunny blinked.

He opened his mouth and then closed it.

He then opened his runes and then looked at Wren.

"When did you..."

Wren shrugged.

"Who knows, alas I guess our time has come to an end. Because I am getting damn sleepy, so move out."

Wren shooed him off.

Sunny raised his hands in defeat and walked out.

Alone in the room, he yawned.

"I guess, this marks a new start."

Wren stood up and walked towards the bed of this room.

Falling on the soft mattress, he fell asleep.

He was sleeping like a log, this was a little too dangerous for him as...

Someone entered the room.
