Chapter 161 - CA [161]: Virus

A modern high school girl, lying on her bed after returning home from school, suddenly finds a blonde, handsome young man in armor in her bedroom. What kind of adventure is this?

Seitenshi didn't know if other high school girls had experienced such a scene, but she could guarantee she hadn't.

Looking at Altair in front of her, Seitenshi didn't know what to do for a moment. Should she answer his question? Or call for her bodyguards? After all, she was Seitenshi, not just any ordinary high school girl. Moreover, this was the Holy Residence; not just anyone could enter. Those who could had to have the permission of Kikunojō Tendō.

Was this person here to assassinate her? But if it was an assassination, why would he ask such a question?

"What's wrong, Your Excellency? Why aren't you speaking? Is my question difficult to answer?"

"No, it's not that. I was just thinking about how to answer your question."

It seemed he wasn't here to assassinate her. At least, an assassin wouldn't wear such armor. He didn't look like an assassin; instead, he resembled a… gallant knight?

But, passing by the Holy Residence, hearing someone muttering to themselves, and just jumping in? Isn't something off about this knight? And didn't the people outside notice anything?

Still… he didn't seem like a bad person, so it should be fine, right?

The truth is, a handsome appearance can skew one's first impression. If Altair were an overweight man with a greasy face and a sleazy demeanor, would Seitenshi think he was a good person?

"So, Your Excellency, have you thought it through?"

"More or less."

Having her thoughts brought up and feeling that he wasn't a bad person, Seitenshi slowly relaxed. She didn't mind Altair being nearby; she hugged her knees and buried her face in them.

"I've always wanted to make some changes, but unfortunately, I have no way to do so. No matter what I do, I can't gain approval."

"Oh? Can you tell me more?"

At that moment, Altair transformed into a caring confidant, smiling gently at Seitenshi and inviting her to share.

Seitenshi's light blue eyes glanced at Altair. Seeing the gentle smile on his handsome face, she chose to open up to him.

Thus, the two began their conversation, one leaning against the balcony, the other sitting on the bed, with no intention of getting closer.

Seitenshi explained in detail her desire to improve the treatment of the Cursed Children. She wanted to pass legislation to grant them legal rights, thereby alleviating the unfair treatment they currently endured. However, this bill could never pass because the parliament was controlled by Kikunojō Tendō.

As for Kikunojō Tendō, Seitenshi knew what kind of person he was, but to her, Tokyo needed someone like him. Without Kikunojō Tendō, Tokyo might be invaded by other regions. Moreover, he was good to her, which left her feeling helpless.

She wanted to help the Cursed Children but was powerless to do so. So, upon returning, she uttered that cryptic phrase.

"I can't do anything."

Hearing that phrase again, Altair couldn't help but twitch his eye, though his sunny smile remained unbroken.

"Your Excellency, I understand what you're saying. In essence, you believe legislation can protect the Cursed Children."

"It's not exactly protection; I don't think I have that much power. But for now, I want to help them as much as I can."

"Your intentions are good, but Your Excellency, have you considered that this bill might not only fail to protect the Cursed Children but could even harm them?"

"Harm them?"

Seitenshi's eyes widened.

"How is that possible? Once the bill is passed and enacted, anyone who dares harm the Cursed Children will be punished. That should make their lives much better."

"Then what if the city's law enforcers are the ones who oppose the bill?"

Altair laid bare the city's reality.

"In this city's police system, almost every officer despises the Cursed Children. They lack the ability to fight Gastrea, yet they must endure the fear Gastrea bring. Their incompetence leads them to redirect their hatred onto the Cursed Children. The police even openly hunt Cursed Children in the city's corners. They don't need any charges; knowing someone is a Cursed Child is enough."

"And in the military, such people are plentiful. They've formed tight-knit groups, some even teaming up to hunt Cursed Children. Even high-ranking officers do this, including your personal guard, Your Excellency, every single one of them, especially your guard captain. Surprising, isn't it?"

Altair ruthlessly exposed the city's darkness, even the darkness surrounding Seitenshi, leaving her utterly shocked, slumping onto the bed.

"Almost all of this city's power holders despise the Cursed Children. They may not have always felt this way, but to secure their positions in high society, they adopt this hatred to fit in. Among the entire elite, the only one who doesn't hate them is you, Your Excellency. In this situation, if you forcefully push the bill, what do you think they'll feel?"

"I'll tell you: anger! They'll feel resentment, wanting to lash out. Why should they bow to a group they see as worthless? They might reluctantly pass your bill on the surface, but the very day it passes, or even before, they'll send people to assassinate those innocent Cursed Children, showing you that, bill or no bill, they're still disposable."

By this point, Altair's face had lost all traces of a smile.

Because, in the original story, this actually happened. Seitenshi tried to push the bill, but the nobles would never agree. They couldn't touch Seitenshi because Kikunojō Tendō protected her, but the Cursed Children had no one. So they killed them, tortured, assassinated, whatever vented their rage.

Because of Seitenshi's naive ideals, many Cursed Children paid with their innocent lives. Such is the incompetence of the head of state.

She never considered that, in an apocalypse, the weak never make the rules.

Seitenshi was rendered speechless by Altair's words, never having imagined such consequences.

"Do you still want to push for your bill?"

Altair's smile returned, and he asked Seitenshi with a grin.

"No… no… I didn't realize it would lead to such outcomes. No."

Seitenshi shook her head repeatedly. Altair's words were too terrifying. If she knew what would happen and still pushed the bill, it would be like admitting she was an executioner, personally responsible for those children's deaths.

After shaking her head, she looked at Altair, a spark of hope igniting in her.

"Sir… you've said so much and know Tokyo so well. Do you know any way to help those children?"

"As for me, I do have a way to help them, but…"

Altair rubbed his chin, his gaze carrying a hint of teasing as he looked at Seitenshi.

"But… what?"

Noticing something off in Altair's gaze, Seitenshi nervously shrank back.

He's not going to try something with me, is he…

"Why don't you fix your skirt first? Your panties are showing. Light blue, plain style, matching your eyes. Pretty nice."

"Pan…ties?"

"Yes, panties."

Seitenshi thought she misheard, but after Altair's confirmation, she looked down at her skirt. In her earlier shock, she had let go of her hands, fully exposing her panties. Altair could clearly see them, along with her thighs.

"Eek!!!"

The girl's scream shattered the world.
