Chapter 26 - Paranoia

London, England

CniDaria-20

"Paranoia…"

I watched as Nick left the apartment closing the front door behind him. My smile faded soon after. I looked over at my little brother and my eyes narrowed. He was blatantly ignoring me. He was pretending to be deep in gameplay on my console that he usually never touched.

"You going to explain to me how a kid from our past was able to find us half way around the world?" He was silent and kept playing the game, he shrugged his shoulders like it had nothing to do with him, but I felt differently. No way someone we were that close to happened to stumble upon us after all these years. Something wasn't right. I picked the remote on the dining room table and turned the TV off. This wasn't the time to be distracted, this could spiral to something more serious. As the TV turned dark, Ty just stared at the black screen. He sat back on the couch, took a long sigh and looked up at the ceiling.

"I don't know how to look at it. I admit it's strange but everything he says matches up with the current state of America. He has a scholarship to study criminal justice, that checks out as well. The country feels they need better understanding of Law, politicians and better intelligence agents. Even though it isn't what I would focus on in their situations I can see how a prideful and delusional government will focus on strengthening instead of building." After losing half your territory, it would have been smarter to focus on stabilizing their economy. Close the borders, become isolationist, and become a manufacturing power. To grow powerful again they would have to find a way to pay back the debt they owe to other countries by becoming absolutely essential to foreign countries. It would take decades but once that was solved, once again they can reclaim what made them such a superpower in the first place. That's what we expected their actions would be, but we've underestimated the American pride. Their vision has been narrowed and feel that the reason that they've been put into a corner like this is because they weren't able to see the attack coming. The country wasn't able to rally themselves around anyone because they had so few real leaders that understood governance. Seeing that as the root problem as leadership and administration is too near-sighted.

"Yea, it makes sense but there are better schools to study abroad and head to. With international relations being what it is, I doubt that any university would approve this being in the middle of a war. We both know how the company used to operate this was a power move." Ty once again stayed silent and I can see his eyes shine brightly as different thoughts soared through his head.

"Like I said I acknowledge that it seems too convenient to be an accident but this one time I don't see a more plausible explanation. Let's just say your suspicions are right and the company sent him here too mess with us or send a message. Why him? You can tell from just a look at him, right?" I understood what he was getting at. Ty and I have been in intense and life-threatening situations with dangerous individuals. From that you develop a sort of sixth sense and with our enhanced abilities that sense was even stronger. Nicholas Chin was a perfectly normal 18-year-old child. Physically and mentally, he hadn't crossed into the adult spectrum yet. His thoughts were painfully simple to read and I would be surprised if he could lift more than sixty kilograms. "Why send someone so insignificant? It can't be for mental reasons either. The company knows who helped kill our parents. If we're capable of that, a high school friend isn't going to shake us either. No, the company is smarter than that and more efficient." I guess he was right, there were things that happened in this world that even we couldn't predict or have control over. Still, being cautious of a potential threat is better than being blind-sided. Ty may have his blind spots. It'll be my job to cover that for him.

"Whatever let's move on. Where are we at with Paris?" Ty finally takes his eyes off the ceiling and leads me to his room. Theres a few positive things that has come from us attending and studying seriously at university. Ty has become a legitimate genius mentally and practically. He's been studying electrical and mechanical engineering simultaneously and the results have given us advances in technology that were exclusive to us. As we enter his bedroom, tools and materials are littered all around the edges of the room. Blueprints and maps are plastered all over the wall. We approach his desktop and as if it was waiting for our presence, it powers on without being prompted. The screens started showing notes, news articles, building blueprints, and schematics. Calmly Ty starts recounting all the information that he has gathered so far.

"As of right now, the new prime minister of Great Britain is set to meet with the prime minister and president of France to discuss an alliance treaty. The problem is the congress of France is not too excited about this. There's a deep seeded mistrust between the two nations that has gone on for centuries. So, to appease congress Great Britain is schedule to speak to congress to convince that this alliance is needed for the good of Britain and France. Knowing what we plot it would be the best decision but in reality it doesn't really matter. Russia will push to assimilate the rest of Europe sooner rather than later. That's just how much greed the Russians possess. Now the question is do we accelerate that timeline or let it run its course. I feel to keep better control of the situation we need to accelerate." I believe that the next move will be to sabotage the meeting. The extreme measure would be to eliminate both parties. I don't feel like Ty would be that extreme, but I do feel an elimination of leadership would be best. The vulnerable France will cause a free for all with surrounding nations, Spain especially. As the tired nations of west Europe fight each other over scraps, Russia will just clean them up as they creep West themselves. He'll just orchestrate a plan to eliminate the heads and leave it at that. It's not as impactful but it'll get the job done. "The meeting will take place in Versailles rather than Paris with both the National Assembly and Senate being present. If we arrive a day earlier, enter the Palace of Versailles as a tourist, and find a way to hide there overnight; we'll be in prime position to eliminate the president and both prime ministers." As expected, he's going conservative. Are we changing the world or just swapping out leaders? This won't have as much impact as what we did in the Americas.

"Why are we leaving the French Fifth Republic untouched? We did the same with the British Parliament and they just appointed another puppet minister who is even more corrupt than his predecessor. It's like we didn't do anything. Are we creating a new world order or just raising the threat level here?" Ty didn't react to my challenge and just kept skimming the monitors.

"If we start making bigger moves that will prompt the various intelligence agencies to be more aggressive and find out what really going on. Right now they're not really sniffing around about us but if we start making bigger moves without being prepared we'll fail before we achieve our goals." At that moment Ty's phone started to ring the name 'Nala' with various heart emoji's next to it. For the first time since we started our conversation his face showed some anxiousness, some emotion. He quickly silenced the phone and continued his point. "Like I was saying, we're making the long play-"

"Who was that?" Again, he avoided my guys and mumbled under his breath.

"My girlmmphmm"

"Excuse me?" This was getting annoying.

"My girlfriend." I just stared at him, when did he have the time to get a girlfriend? Why has he never told me about her? What type of girl could actually get my baby brother that he was in a relationship?

"So, like I was saying, lets do the long play until we get out of uni-"

"Why am I just hearing about you having a girlfriend? Why would you keep that from me." I no longer cared about the plan. This was so unusual that I had to find out why I was kept in the dark. Ty stayed silent for a while, I guess putting together his thoughts.

"I didn't want you knowing or meeting anyone I was romantically involved with not unless I thought it was real. I haven't even told her about you, my sister. That's just how dear to me you are. Is she really a woman I can let in to my world. I guess its more of me-thing than it is a you thing. I don't really trust her enough to tell you about her. For me to acknowledge that its actually something at all should tell you that she's getting there. For now, let's just keep it as is until I trust her enough to actually have you two meet." Although I was kind of annoyed that my brother didn't tell me about her till now. I can understand his thought process; he probably just met her. With all that we're involved in he wouldn't just let her in that quickly. The emotion he showed when her name came across the screen gives me pause. Is he getting soft?

"Fine I understand, but don't think I'm going to let you keep me out the loop. I'll be asking about her from time to time. So how are we going to get close to the president and prime ministers if we'll be hiding in such an old gigantic palace?" He reached to his right and grabbed a bracelet that was laying on his workbench and put it on. As he fiddled with it I heard a click and felt the energy coming from his body become concentrated and his body started to shake violently. Ever the calm demeanor he didn't pay that any mind and walked through the wall without hesitation.
