Chapter 145 - Rescue

Aurelia and Anna made their way deeper inside the Cathedral.

They still had a mission to complete.

"So you want to say that your husband granted you enough power to make Walter seem like a kitten in comparison to you?" Anna tilted her head as she questioned Aurelia.

Aurelia giggled, "Surprising, I know, I didn't expect it, but he both granted me power and taught me how to control it."

Anna brought her hand to her chin. "It seems I underestimated your fiancé."

Aurelia blushed for a moment before speaking with pride, "He is amazing, I know."

Anna's lips formed a slight smile as she focused on the path ahead.

"I do hope you invite me to the wedding."

Aurelia lifted her head up with pride, "Of course, Granny, you were an important part of my dream!"

"Also, calling someone granny is rude!" Anna gently punched Aurelia's shoulder.

"Sorry!" Aurelia smiled.

"Nothing to apologize for, Aury~."

Soon after the duo approached another corridor, it split into two paths, but one had lit torches while the other was shrouded in darkness.

Even though the faithful of Chrunus preferred darkness, they still needed light to see.

As such, they would surely keep prisoners in lit areas.

"Aury, what do you think?" Anna scratched her chin as she peered into the lit corridor.

Aurelia crossed her arms. "While followers of Chrunus definitely prefer darkness, they still require light to navigate."

"Hmmm, so the lit path would be correct." She stopped for a moment. "We should get going then, I do not want those Paladins holding God's faithful for more than they already did."

Aurelia nodded before following inside the corridor.

It was a narrow hallway, where only one person could pass comfortably, forcing Aurelia and Anna to pass through while hunching.

Soon after, they made their way through, making their exit at a path overlooking a massive chasm.

A solid steel railing acted as protection.

In the middle of the chasm was a large chunk of land, and on top of it a tower, with a sturdy stone bridge closing the gap and leading towards the tower.

As the duo looked around, they saw the walls lined with Cells.

This was the bottom of the cathedral.

The place where they kept their worst prisoners, or anyone who dared go against their teachings.

The number of Paladins was in the dozens; at least 3 groups of 10 Paladins were patrolling from each side, fortunately still noticing the duo as they were obscured by both the absence of torchlight and large pillars that held the cathedral up.

"Aurelia, I can handle most of those Paladins. You go and free the Christians." Anna whispered.

Aurelia was about to protest, but Anna was already gone.

She pinched the bridge of her nose as she saw Anna masterfully approach the patrol, silently dispatching them without making a noise before throwing their corpses into the chasm.

'Since when is Granny Anna that strong?' Aurelia smiled. She expected Anna to be helpless due to her old age, instead, she was dispatching the Paladins like they were nothing.

In a way, they were nothing; either woman could end them with a single strike.

She shook her head, it was not time to be thinking. All she needed to do was to find out which cell Christians were held.

'An incoming patrol.' She grinned; she still had some steam to let off.

Swish

With immense speed, she unsheathed Zenith and cut the Paladins in half before they could even blink.

When comparing these Paladins to Cedric and his training, they were trash.

'No, I cannot do that, it's an insult to my hubby.' She would resist comparing them to Cedric as much as she could.

The Paladins of Chrunus couldn't even hold a candle to her beloved.

She swung Zenith, getting rid of blood before sheathing it on her back once again.

No matter how much she trained and learned to use her power, she still couldn't get over the fact that less than a little more than a month ago, she was a helpless little girl.

The easiest target for harassment and bullying.

If it wasn't for Cedric, she would have died even if the demons were beaten.

Child assassins, Avaros executing her, the senate, or any other opponent Cedric had made insignificant, despite them being a major threat, usually.

'I'm too in love, I need to focus!' She forced herself to focus once again.

The Christians were held in one of these cells; all she needed to do was break them.

She approached the first cell, inside were ones wearing green ragged hoods, clearly disciples of Natura.

Not only did Christians deserve rescuing, but everyone who was slighted by his tyranny was to be given a chance.

Those worshipping Natura, Payne, or any other god would be freed and then converted to one true faith.

Of course, gods themselves had little chance to survive as they were false in the eyes of her beloved, but the humans those tricked by false gods could be spared and converted just like she was.

The worshipers of Natura were in a bad shape; they were likely captured and left in the cell to starve or be sacrificed later on.

'Such a shame.' Aurelia approached the cell before wrapping her fingers around the metal.

Snap

With immense ease, the cell door broke, leaving the unfortunate prisoners free, but still hopeless; they did not trust the person who appeared before them.

"I am Aurelia, the First Star and one representing new Christianity, You are free now." She stretched her arm forward.

[God's Holy Light]

The most holy light washed over the prisoners, restoring them to their ideal condition. They looked up at the blinding light with their eyes squinted.

"Who..."

Aurelia smiled, "I am The First Star, One who backs the heresy of the cross. I am here to save everyone. Please sit tight until I get everyone."

They reached for her, but she was already gone, approaching the next cell.

She repeated her action once again, the loud snap echoed before the blinding light flashed through the prison.

After 4 cells, she finally approached the last one, a cell where Christians were held.

How did she know they were Christians?

They were the only ones still in good condition.

Terrified, yes, but in good health.

"Let's get out of here." Aurelia's lips formed a wide smile as she snapped the final cell door.
