The next morning, sunlight filtered gently through the windows of Shen Fei's dorm. He stirred awake, his body relaxed but powerful.
After freshening up and enjoying a light breakfast prepared by the academy's servants, he stepped out into the cool morning breeze.
The academy grounds were still quiet, with only a few students wandering about, half-asleep and sluggish. In contrast, Shen Fei's steps were confident and measured, his robe fluttering lightly with each stride.
His destination was, once again, the library.
As he stepped inside, the familiar scent of old parchment and polished wood greeted him. The student librarian, already behind the desk, froze slightly at the sight of him.
"G-Good morning, Young Master Shen Fei," the boy stammered, offering a stiff bow.
Shen Fei didn't bother with a response beyond a slight nod. His piercing red eyes swept the hall briefly before he turned and walked straight toward the towering shelf he had left unfinished yesterday.
The moment he was out of sight, the librarian let out a heavy sigh, muttering under his breath, "Damn it… why does that bastard keep coming to the library? I should really swap shifts with someone else before I lose my nerves."
Meanwhile, Shen Fei resumed his quest for knowledge.
He plucked a book from the shelf and began reading, his eyes scanning line after line with preternatural speed. Within seconds, the book was closed and returned. Then another. Then another.
Book after book vanished into the vault of his memory, devoured effortlessly. As he finished an entire bookshelf, he moved to the next without missing a beat, his reading pace increasing with every tome he absorbed.
To the outside world, it looked like mindless flipping.
To Shen Fei, it was preparation for domination.
He was so absorbed in his task that he barely noticed the nervous footsteps approaching him.
A student stopped a few feet away and swallowed hard before speaking.
"M-Master Shen Fei," he said, voice trembling slightly. "The Vice Principal has summoned you to his office."
Shen Fei paused mid-page.
He closed the book with quiet precision, slid it back into its place on the shelf, and finally looked up at the messenger.
His tone was calm, indifferent, yet carried an underlying weight.
"Understood. Thank you for letting me know."
The student bowed and backed away, clearly relieved.
Without another word, Shen Fei turned and began walking out of the library, his black robe trailing behind him like a shadow.
'Let's see what the old man wants now,' he thought with faint amusement as he made his way toward the Vice Principal's office.
After arriving at the Vice Principal's office, Shen Fei raised a hand and knocked lightly on the door.
"Come in," came a calm, firm voice from within.
He pushed the door open and entered.
Inside, an elderly man with snow-white hair and a long, neatly kept beard was seated behind a wide desk cluttered with documents.
He was reviewing papers with focused attention, though he looked up with a faint smile as Shen Fei stepped in.
This man was Ye Sheng, the Vice Principal of the Holy Orchid Institute—and a respected elder of the Snow Wind Family.
"Nephew Shen Fei, come sit," Ye Sheng greeted warmly, gesturing to the seat across from him.
Shen Fei gave no response. He silently walked over and took his seat, his expression calm, waiting for the old man to speak further.
Ye Sheng leaned back, his smile still polite. "Nephew Shen, your recent progress is truly impressive. Reaching gold rank as a Demon Spiritualist at your age… remarkable. And your performance in inscription patterns—especially yesterday—was equally outstanding."
Shen Fei's expression didn't change, but a thought flickered in his mind.
'So, that bastard Ye Zheren went straight to him. No surprise—both are from the Snow Wind Family.'
While he pondered the implications, Ye Sheng continued, folding his hands atop the desk.
"Actually, even before yesterday's incident, the City Lord had already issued an order on your behalf. You are granted full freedom to attend or skip classes at your discretion."
He paused for effect, then added, "Additionally, you are hereby appointed as the curator of the academy library."
There was a beat of silence.
"Do you have any objections?" Ye Sheng asked, his smile still in place, but his eyes studying Shen Fei carefully.
Shen Fei met his gaze, voice flat but composed. "None. I'm quite satisfied with these terms. If there's nothing else, I'd like to return to my reading."
Ye Sheng nodded and waved his hand casually. "Go ahead."
Shen Fei stood and exited the room without another word.
Once alone, Ye Sheng looked down at the paperwork before him, though his mind was clearly elsewhere.
"How can someone change so much?" he muttered under his breath.
"Before, all he did was bully weaker students and chase after beautiful girls. And now… all he does is bury himself in the library since returning from the holiday."
He shook his head and sighed. "Still… Ye Zong said to maintain a good relationship with him. I suppose I should trust that judgment."
Shen Fei returned to the library in silence. The moment he stepped inside, he headed straight for his usual spot and resumed reading.
One book after another, page after page, time passed in a blur as he lost himself once more in the endless pursuit of knowledge.
After four hours of focused reading, he finally stood, took a brief break, and headed out to enjoy lunch.
As always, he returned soon after and continued reading well into the afternoon, completely skipping class without the slightest concern.
Meanwhile, in the Genius Class classroom…
Almost all the students had arrived and taken their seats. Yet the one seat that many had begun to eye with rising anticipation remained empty.
Shen Fei's.
Those who had hoped to approach him for cultivation techniques—following in Chen Linjian's footsteps—began to feel their excitement wane.
When the teacher arrived and class began without Shen Fei's appearance, that hope turned into disappointment.
Among them, Huyan Lanrou was the most agitated.
Her eyes kept darting toward Shen Fei's vacant seat, her hands tightening around her quill as her jaw clenched in frustration.
'That damn bastard,' she cursed silently. 'He gave Chen Linjian a technique but won't even acknowledge me?'
The memory of him walking away from her yesterday without a second glance burned in her chest.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
She bit her lip, glaring at the empty seat.
'Damn you, Shen Fei. You think I'll just beg you like some desperate fool? I'll find a way to force your hand. One way or another…'
Her thoughts boiled as the lesson dragged on—though not a single word reached her ears.
She couldn't focus.
Not when she had heard from Chen Linjian that after just one night of practicing the technique Shen Fei gave him, he had already broken through to the peak of silver rank.
'Unbelievable, ' she fumed. 'Just what kind of technique did that bastard give him?'
The thought gnawed at her pride and her curiosity alike. Her hand trembled, gripping her pen tightly until she suddenly slammed it down on her desk with a loud bang.
The classroom fell silent. All eyes turned toward her, wide with shock—even the teacher paused mid-sentence.
Then, in a voice that cracked with rage, she demanded, "Teacher! Why isn't Shen Fei in class? How can he just skip it like this while the rest of us show up every day?! Shouldn't he be punished instead of running around harming innocent girls somewhere?!"
Gasps echoed through the room.
The teacher's face darkened.
"Huyan Lanrou," he snapped. "Don't disturb the class again."
His tone turned colder as he continued, "And don't compare yourself to Shen Fei. He's a super genius. There's nothing I can teach him in this classroom anymore."
The teacher straightened his robe with irritation.
"He's been granted special privileges by the academy. He now has full freedom to attend or skip class as he sees fit. Not only that, he's been appointed as the Curator of the Library—the largest and most sacred repository of knowledge in all of Glory City."
Turning back to the board, he muttered under his breath, "That place will benefit him far more than my pointless lectures."
Huyan Lanrou sat back in her seat, jaw clenched, face flushed with a mixture of anger and humiliation.
Around her, the classroom buzzed quietly with whispers.
"She's angry because he ignored her…"
"Do you think she's secretly into him?"
"Maybe she just wants a technique, too…"
Their muttering reached her ears, and her fingers curled into fists.
Infatuated? Me? With him? Never!
But she didn't lash out.
She waited, simmering in silence until the two-hour class finally ended.
The moment the teacher left, she stormed out of the room, her heels striking the floor with force as she marched toward the library.
I'll crush that bastard. He dares humiliate me… let's see how smug he looks after I beat him down.
But she didn't realize that many of her classmates had the same destination.
Dozens of students, eyes alight with ambition, quietly followed her steps.
After hearing of Chen Linjian's sudden rise in strength overnight, no one doubted the power of the techniques Shen Fei possessed. Every one of them was hoping to try their luck, to secure a piece of the legend rising in their midst.
Huyan Lanrou burst through the entrance of the library and weaved her way through the maze of towering shelves. She could feel her heartbeat quickening with every step—not from nervousness, but from rage.
Soon, she reached the far corner.
And there he was.
Shen Fei.
Standing calmly, his hand moving swiftly from book to book, flipping pages at a speed no one could believe.
Every few seconds, one book closed and another opened, his gaze sharp, his movements unnaturally fluid.
It looked surreal—like a scene from a fantasy tale.
Lanrou scowled.
Who is he trying to fool? Is he really reading or just showing off?
She crossed her arms and watched him quietly for a moment, convinced it was all an act.
Pretentious bastard.
But she couldn't hold back any longer.
With a snarl, she stepped forward and grabbed his wrist, yanking his hand away from the book.
Shen Fei's red eyes snapped toward her. Cold. Sharp.
He glared at her, then spoke in a quiet, cutting voice.
"What do you want?"
Huyan Lanrou froze for a moment under the weight of Shen Fei's glare.
Those crimson eyes—sharp and cold like blades—cut through her pride and made her heart skip. But she quickly gathered herself, lifting her chin with defiance.
'He won't dare touch me,' she reminded herself. 'Not here. Not now.'
"I want a cultivation technique," she said boldly. "Name your price."
Shen Fei didn't respond right away.
His eyes dropped, slowly scanning her figure—trailing from her delicate collarbones down to the tight curve of her waist, then lingering boldly on her generous chest and full hips. His gaze was unashamed, possessive.
Finally, his lips curled into a mocking smile.
"I still need a bimbo maid," he said casually. "Big breasts, no brain. Obedient. Decorative."
He leaned closer, his voice low and taunting.
"If you want a cultivation technique that badly, be mine for a month. My personal maid. And I'll give it to you."
Lanrou's face flushed, her eyes flaring in fury.
Her nails dug into her palms as her rage boiled up—but she held herself back. Barely.
"I'll pay you double—even triple what you asked from Chen Linjian," she snapped, jaw clenched.
But Shen Fei merely scoffed. "Do I look like I need money?"
He stepped toward her, just enough to tower slightly over her, his eyes glinting with amusement and dominance.
"If you don't accept my offer now, then next time… the condition won't be 'maid' anymore."
His tone dropped lower, colder. "Next time, if you want a technique, you'll have to be my bed-warming maid. And after that… my obedient little fuck toy. The longer you wait, the worse the price will get."
His greedy gaze once again devoured her trembling figure, as if undressing her right there with his eyes.
Huyan Lanrou's breath caught.
Then she screamed.
"Shen Fei, you're delusional if you think I'll ever be your maid!"
With one last glare, she turned on her heel and stormed off, her footsteps sharp and furious as her long pink hair whipped behind her.
Shen Fei didn't chase her.
Huyan Lanrou stormed out of the library, her boots striking the marble floor with sharp, echoing force.
Her pink hair swayed wildly behind her, matching the fury simmering inside her chest. Her fists were clenched, nails digging into her palms, but the pain didn't register.
All she could hear was Shen Fei's voice repeating in her head—
"My obedient little fuck toy."
Her face burned.
With anger. With humiliation. With something she didn't want to name.
She turned a corner and slammed her back against the cold wall of the hallway, heart pounding in her chest like a war drum. She was breathing hard, struggling to calm herself.
'How dare he… How DARE he speak to me like that…'
She had never been insulted so brazenly. Never been looked at with such lewd contempt. And certainly never been dismissed so thoroughly—even when offering triple the price of Chen Linjian.
'Why him? Why is he the one who holds all the cards now? That bastard. That degenerate. That monster!'
She squeezed her eyes shut.
But all she could see was his smirking face.
The way he looked at her body. The certainty in his voice when he promised her humiliation if she returned later.
And worse than all of it—deep down, beneath the anger—was something far more dangerous.
A sliver of fear.
Not fear that he'd hurt her. No. It was fear of what might happen if he was right.
'What if I… really need what he's offering? What if I come back later… and he demands something worse… and I still… agree?'
Her eyes shot open.
"No!" she hissed under her breath.
She pushed herself off the wall and marched toward her dormitory, trembling with rage, but more than that—confusion. Her pride had taken a hit, and her heart was in turmoil.
Behind her façade of arrogance, she was spinning.
'I can't let him win. I need to stay strong. I'll find another way to grow stronger. I won't bow to him.'
But a single, unwelcome thought whispered back:
'Then why does it feel like you already did?'
...….
Shen Fei simply returned to his book, flipping it open with a calm, measured motion.
But before he could continue reading, his divine sense swept across the outer perimeter of the library.
A smirk touched his lips.
A large number of students from the genius class were heading toward the library—and he didn't need to guess why.
They must've heard about Chen Linjian's sudden breakthrough. And now they all want the same thing.
Shen Fei leaned back in his chair and crossed one leg over the other.
He waited.
Like a king on his throne, watching the desperate masses approach.
