Chapter 21 - (_?_/_?_)

I pushed him back, "shrug off Timothy!" I shock my head. "You can't tell me that we're cursed. Lynn, Ibuki and Kitten and everyone else died! And that I married Kira on top of that? Spin your fairytale somewhere else because I have a hard time buying any of that!"

Timothy took a half step back and seized my hand, "careful boy," he said while his eyes filled with unfiltered disdain.. I tried to squirm away, but he wouldn't let me go. "Listen, I'm far more than just a husband, you think killing is easy, but haven't fought in the eastern fringes." He pushed me away with more strength than I anticipated and fell to the ground.

I brushed the dirt from my knees as I stood up. "You and Hoxworth always say alot about the campaigning in the eastern fringes but even records of those engagements are obscure and half assed compared to any other Directorate media."

Timothy reached inside of his coat and pulled out a lame stick of his own, he ignited it and took multiple breaths of synthetic bliss before he spoke once more. "You know who were fighting and the casualty numbers. Everything else should be self explanatory." He went off deeper into the graveyard until we both reached a grave we were destined to begin with.

I looked at the text upon the grave.

Here Lies Amanda Heeth designated as 'Kitten' successful technocratic faction asset for thirty-one consecutive years and fighter for the Directorate's values.

Something lingers on the tombstone, pulling me closer and dragging me down. I fell to my knees before it. "You feel, don't you?" Timothy asked. "That one thing which calls out to you what you are, the bane your ancestors brought upon you? Blade-like arms cut a passage into reality, opening you to an accursed world where you can't speak the language you were supposed to inherit?" He continued.

I could see the past through my mind's eyes, as of now. As it was then. I saw Lynn's lips move as she laughed, Clyde stood behind her. The way his face contorted from his easy going and cheerful demeanor to pure unfiltered terror. Then Mark followed suit. At last Lynn saw it.

My own vision snapped over to the tear in reality. A pair of Sword like limbs stretched it open, and something akin to a Robot strode forth in its feminine synthetic body. Unheard screams, the roars of guns and terror must have echoed through the labyrinth-like structure of the sub city.

"Kitten" was the first to close the gap, in a series of swipes, ducks and parries, she was stalling that thing. But it didn't linger for long, with a swipe it forced "Kitten" back and started to make head way. On Second squad Clyde and Mark went down faster than they realized.

Either of them pointed their guns and fired, neither of them managed to draw their blades or shove it away with their rifles. Arms and limbs started to fly as it went down on Lynn, then it hurried over to the third squad.

I saw myself sprinting in there abandoning my own rifle and "Kitten" rushed in as well. Together we kept it between us and exchanged a series of blows which didn't do more than disturb her like a maiden cutting out her flowers in a field.

We couldn't stop her. Moments after we were forced away she cut down third squad. I thought it was over until Keeth rose from the ground, flourishing a grenade he held and threw himself, holding it high on top of that thing.

Eyes burning, I was back in the now. Witnessing the past which should have remained forgotten. I looked at "Kitten's" grave which carried the same weight as those memories. I don't know how long I remained on my knees. My throat started to ache and my knees began to hurt but I was drawn to the pull of her grave. Like a rocket lacking the velocity to break orbit.

More time passed, the light began to dim, it was getting colder. Slowly drop by drop it came closer until it began to rain as well. An umbrella clipped open shortly after the first raindrops fell upon my scalp but I couldn't take my eyes away.

The rain continued to pour down, like a tidal wave, water began to reach my knees, sullying the earth beneath my knees with water, turning it to mud. I lightly began to sink into it, still I couldn't avert my eyes.

The rain bombarded the umbrella above me relentlessly. The sound of it got joined by a second after the sun went down. "Is he alright?" A female voice asked. The person holding my umbrella didn't respond.

No other sound than the rain pouring down could be heard. "Sometimes, I want to know how much I hate to see you like that," the female voice mused. "I don't want to see your blue eyes fade to gray again."

"But I still love you despite all of that." Kira said, her umbrella fell to the ground and her arms slung around my chest.

"You'll get wet." I said.

"It's fine." Kira said snuggling up behind me. "It's fine since we do it together." For the first time in an eternity I managed to move my hands, slowly. Way too timidly, it moved up. Until I reached her hands, I laid mine over hers and they intertwined.
