Chapter 290: Struck by Lightning
Obito stood at the entrance of his secret base. It was located on an unnamed island in the East Sea, far from the Land of Rain, which served as Akatsuki's main headquarters. It was one of his many boltholes.
When Obito had nothing to do, he would stand under the eaves in the Land of Rain, acting cool. In reality, he didn't like rainy days at all. Whenever it rained, he would be reminded of the scene of Rin Nohara's tragic death. The sky was also drizzling that day. Every time this happened, his heart ached so much he couldn't breathe.
Rin Nohara seemed to waver between the two young men. In reality, Rin's feelings for Kakashi were mainly admiration. Kakashi was too aloof at that time, and the warm-hearted Rin found it difficult to resonate with him. Conversely, Obito was a living person in her heart.
There were feelings between the two. If the Dance King hadn't interfered, if there hadn't been the Iwagakure ninja's "Earth Release: Rock Lodging Collapse," the two would have definitely ended up together. Kakashi would only have blessed them from afar.
Through probing, Nagato and Konan knew that Obito disliked rain. So Nagato would make it rain heavily in the Land of Rain. I'll disgust you to death!
When Obito was in a bad mood, he didn't want to go to the Land of Rain, choosing instead to be alone in his secret base, lost in thought.
And these past two days, his mood hadn't been good.
A trip to Iwagakure reminded him of the past when he was "crushed to death" by Iwagakure ninjas. His past memories were severely fragmented. He felt as if he had become two people: one who died in battle at the Kannabi Bridge, and one who had become the current lonely ghost, unsure when he would find peace.
After sitting quietly for a while, he noticed the rain outside was getting heavier. Without thinking much, he walked out of the room to watch.
Suddenly, a bright light flashed before his eyes. Before he could react, a bolt of lightning unexpectedly descended from the sky!
A lightning snake as thick as a water bucket pierced through the dense dark clouds, instantly illuminating more than half the sky. This strike was extremely powerful, seemingly even splitting space in half.
The lightning energy was powerful, and its speed was extremely fast.
Obito was caught off guard. Phasing, Izanagi – he simply had no time to think. The thought hadn't even formed when the lightning struck him squarely.
With a "boom," a loud crash, his body was thrown high like a rag doll. Before he could hit the ground, a second bolt of lightning came.
This time, he finally reacted. No matter how this thing had appeared, he had to dodge it!
He endured the pain in his body and used phasing. The lightning struck in his direction, crackling and popping, hitting seven or eight times consecutively. The clouds slowly dispersed. It was a full five minutes before he dared to become tangible again.
"Wah!" He spat out a large mouthful of dark red blood. He had dodged the subsequent lightning strikes, but not the first one. He had taken a direct hit. Even with Hashirama cells in his body, this blow severely injured him.
His black coat with red clouds was burned to charcoal, large areas of his skin were burned, the three-tomoe Sharingan in his left eye socket completely liquefied, and his right Mangekyo Sharingan was also somewhat blurry. Bloody tears flowed from his eye sockets. Undoubtedly, his vitreous humor was damaged. The Mangekyo Sharingan, as a semi-independent organ, had used its internal ocular power to resist part of the lightning damage at the critical moment. Otherwise, both eyeballs would have been ruined.
Obito's consciousness grew increasingly dull, his limbs weak, and his internal organs severely damaged. He hurriedly sent a signal to Zetsu, then collapsed headfirst into the mud.
Zetsu wasn't a twenty-four-hour nanny; it was impossible for him to watch Obito constantly. He rushed over as soon as he received the signal.
Seeing the scene, he was also stunned. What was going on? He hadn't looked away for a moment, and you got struck by lightning?
What terrible deeds have you done for even the heavens to find you intolerable?
He had no time to think. Obito's breathing was faint; he looked like he was about to die.
Zetsu brought Obito underground, connected him to the life support system Madara Uchiha had used back then, and then transfused a large amount of Hashirama cells to repair the necrotic cells in his body.
No matter what, let's keep him alive for now.
On the other side.
Yakumo Kurama looked at the drawing paper torn from the middle and began to cough violently.
"Yakumo, are you alright?" Jiraiya was still very humane at this time, not asking about the result, but first about Yakumo Kurama's physical condition.
"Cough, cough, I'm fine, Lord Hokage. The first bolt of lightning hit. The next few bolts probably missed..." As soon as she finished speaking, Yakumo Kurama also suffered the backlash from her Kekkei Genkai, her head tilted, and she fainted.
Shizune immediately ordered the medical team to enter and rescue her.
Ino listened as Tsunade and Jiraiya discussed nearby.
Undoubtedly, Obito should have been severely injured.
There was no reaction time at all. By the time he saw the lightning, it was already too late. They believed Obito wouldn't have had time to use phasing.
What a pity! Ino felt that if she had known the location of Obito's secret base, perhaps she could have ambushed him in advance and taken his Kamui Sharingan.
Right eye it is, she wouldn't be picky. Now, she had missed a golden opportunity for nothing.
Shizune examined Yakumo Kurama and concluded that the little girl would need at least a month to recover. If she wanted to use her Kekkei Genkai ability, she would have to wait another month.
Several of them went to the prison to ask Konan if she knew the specific location of this secret base. Strike while the iron is hot.
Konan really didn't know the specific location. The ones who knew the location were the Six Paths of Pain. Under Nagato's control, they had once tracked Obito from a distance. The two sides almost fell out over this matter. Afterward, Nagato didn't try again. Konan only knew the approximate location; it should be overseas, on an island in the East Sea.
Now, the East Sea area was a powder keg.
Numerous warships from the Land of Water and the Land of Lightning were constantly vying for control of that sea area. The Land of Fire firmly held onto some islands under its control, not helping either side.
The three great ninja villages had not yet intervened in the war. If Konoha ninjas appeared in large numbers in the East Sea at this time, it would easily send some wrong signals. You say you're hunting down the Akatsuki's mastermind? Who would believe that!
Their relationship with Iwagakure was already tense. If friction also occurred with Kirigakure and Kumogakure, Konoha would once again fall into the predicament of fighting on two fronts, or even three fronts.
Jiraiya thought for a long time and vetoed the suggestion to send a small unit to the East Sea to search for the masked man.
Being able to retreat unscathed from the combined efforts of Tsunade and the other two, the masked man's strength, in his opinion, far surpassed that of an ordinary jounin.
Ordinary people simply couldn't defeat him. Going there would be suicide, and it would easily cause unnecessary misunderstandings.
Now, they could only hope that the opponent would die from his severe injuries, or that Konoha could come up with another plan.
Ino didn't try to be a hero.
In her opinion, Obito was like a cockroach; he wouldn't die so easily. Zetsu definitely had ways to save him. Rushing to the East Sea now would be too risky, truly not a wise move.
