With his flesh-manipulating abilities, he could split into five separate bodies (each with one head and core) or merge them all while keeping the five heads and personalities intact.
In the original story, he single-handedly held off four S-Class heroes, including Silver Fang and Atomic Samurai.

Melzargard laughed heartily. So many beings here were on par with their pirate warriors.
