Matteo bolted upright in the sterile corridor, the faint blue lights of the emergency room dimming in a distance. His heart raced,
"What… What's going on?" he stammered, eyes darting towards everyone. "What happened? Is everything okay? Can you answer me please!"
He shook Holland, who stood ftozen Infront of him. Panic-stricken, Holland wouldn't meet his gaze. "I… I..... I" he whispered, his voice trembling, that's all he could say.
Matteo turned his attention to the seamless glass window that separated them from the bustling medical team in the emergency room.
Through the glass, he saw the doctors and nurses moving with frantic urgency, surrounded by a constellation of blinking machines and glowing interfaces.
They carefully removed the venture mask from Elisa's face, and Matteo's breath hitched in his throat as he noticed the IV drip being disconnected too.
"No, no!" he shouted, dread solidifying in his stomach. "What's happening to her?!"
