Noah stepped aside and quietly made a call to Grace.
The moment she picked up, he said, "Grace, I just heard from Mr. Grant—your sister-in-law, Ava, was in a car accident. She's in the hospital. You should come see her."
Ava had always reminded him a little of his mother when she was young—graceful, gentle, and serene. That similarity had made him develop a quiet fondness for her. Not romantic, but protective. Still, given propriety, it wasn't his place to visit her, so he called Grace.
The second Grace heard that Ava had been hurt, she exploded. "What? What happened? When? Why didn't anyone tell me?!"
"I just found out myself. Call her and check in."
"I will. Right now."
Not even half an hour later, Grace stormed into the hospital like a hurricane.
She usually brought flowers when visiting, but this time she was in such a rush she forgot completely. She found Ava's room, dropped her purse on the chair, and rushed to the bed.
