Ava reached out and gently placed her hand over Liam's.
His hand was ice-cold.
She held it tightly, indulging in the warmth for just a moment—then let go, afraid that holding on any longer would weaken her resolve.
Liam's voice was low and gravelly. "Sophia was in a car accident too. She's unconscious, still in surgery. I've already sent people to investigate Sawyer. We're gathering evidence. It won't be long before he's brought to justice."
A bitter smile flickered across Ava's face. "Revenge only breeds more revenge."
Her hand drifted to her abdomen, still tender and empty. "No matter what we do… my baby won't come back."
And Zane wouldn't either.
This marriage had already claimed too many lives. If it continued, who knew how many more would be lost?
Now that Sophia was injured, Hartwell wouldn't sit still. This cycle of revenge—tit for tat—would only spiral, endless and destructive.
Liam stared at her, his eyes dark and unreadable. "Can you really walk away from me?"
