Time passed quickly, and the Chūnin Exam finally arrived.
Konoha Village was now filled with many unfamiliar faces. These newcomers wore turban-like headscarves with large curtains hanging behind them, making them resemble Middle Eastern women from the real world.
That day, Konohamaru was running excitedly through the streets. Just as he turned a corner, he collided head-on with someone.
"I'm sorry!" Konohamaru apologized in a panic, ready to keep running.
He had heard from big brother Naruto that the Golden Egg Shop had just upgraded again, and this time, all the golden eggs would contain incredible items.
After saving up 8,888 taels of silver, he was on his way to smash a platinum egg—but to his dismay, the person he had bumped into wasn't letting him go!
"Hold it, brat. You bump into someone, say sorry, and think that's enough?!" The man grabbed Konohamaru's collar from behind.
"Then what do you want?" Konohamaru clutched his forehead and looked up at the man.
The guy wore black from head to toe, including a turban that oddly had two pointed cat-like ears on it. With lines of face paint around his eyes, he looked unintentionally funny.
It was Kankuro.
Konohamaru couldn't help but chuckle at his appearance.
"What are you laughing at, brat?" Kankuro's tone grew cold.
"I just thought of something funny!" Konohamaru replied awkwardly, trying to hide his laughter.
"What was it?!" Kankuro demanded.
"Um... my big brother Naruto just taught me a cool new jutsu!" Konohamaru deflected quickly. Naruto could take the fall this time.
"You're totally laughing at me!" Kankuro wasn't fooled. His temper flared, and he raised a fist toward Konohamaru.
"Stop!"
A sharp voice cut through the tension. Konohamaru turned and saw Naruto rushing over.
"Hey! You think it's okay to bully my little brother in front of me?" Naruto said, imitating Sasuke's signature swagger.
He approached with a cocky strut, his tone aloof. "You must be the Sand Village Genin here for the Chūnin Exams. Pretty bold of you to act tough in Konoha, don't you think?"
Kankuro sneered. "Oh? A Konoha Genin? Interesting."
He dropped Konohamaru and cracked his knuckles. "Let's see what kind of trash this village produces."
"Stop, Kankuro!" Temari, the black-stockinged kunoichi with her hair styled in four directions, whispered nervously. "Be careful. We'll get scolded."
"It's fine," Kankuro replied coolly, subtly manipulating his fingers. "I just want to see what this guy's got."
Naruto charged forward with a shout—only to suddenly trip and fall face-first into the dirt.
"..."
Konohamaru sighed. "Big bro, your luck is terrible."
"Aha-ha-ha!" Naruto scrambled up, grinning and scratching his head. "Oops, my bad!"
"This is the best Konoha has to offer?" Kankuro scoffed. "Pathetic."
Crack!
A rock suddenly smacked Kankuro's wrist, making him flinch.
Sasuke lounged atop a tree nearby, lazily tossing another stone in the air. "That's the Sand Village's best? Doesn't look like much to me."
"Ugh!" Naruto cursed silently. "Why is Sasuke always so cool?!"
Even though Naruto had surpassed Sasuke in strength, when it came to making a cool entrance, Sasuke always had the upper hand.
Sasuke crushed the stone in his palm. "Get lost," he said coldly.
"So cool!" Sakura shouted dreamily.
Even Temari blushed at the sight.
"Big bro Naruto, you're so lame!" Konohamaru chirped.
"I could beat that guy easy!" Naruto insisted, crouching in front of Konohamaru to rebuild his image.
"Hmph!" Konohamaru turned away.
Sasuke remained silent, but he kept an eye on Naruto. If Naruto went all out now, he might steal the spotlight completely. Sasuke couldn't let that happen.
"Didn't you hear me?" Sasuke said to Kankuro. "Get lost."
"Tch. Just a brat who talks big," Kankuro grumbled, untying a large object from his back. "I hate kids like you who just talk!"
"Wait!" Temari called out. "You're not really going to use Crow here, are you?! This is Konoha!"
"It's fine, I know the rules," Kankuro replied, dropping Crow to the ground.
Before he could unravel it—wham! Sasuke flew down and kicked the puppet hard.
Thunk!
Crow remained unharmed.
"Heh, nice try," Kankuro laughed. "Crow is made of reinforced metal. Not even a tag could break it. You think you can damage it with a kick?"
"Idiot," Sasuke muttered.
Sasuke then turned away. "Naruto, he's yours."
"Finally!" Naruto cracked his knuckles with a grin.
