Frida's eyes fluttered open to a gradually brightening morning. The sun rose gently, casting soft hues of blue and purple across the endless sky.
The soothing chorus of tweeting birds and the faint hum of cars below momentarily made her forget they were on the hospital rooftop.
She turned to see Laz smiling beside her. They were bundled in six or seven blankets, and snowflakes drifted lazily onto the tent.
"I can't believe we set up a tent on the hospital rooftop," Frida groaned, stretching under the cozy layers.
Laz kissed her forehead. "I can't believe I almost missed the chance to see you this beautiful at sunrise on the hospital rooftop."
"The nurses must've panicked, searching for you all night," Frida said, raising a brow.
Laz pulled her closer with a grin. "Nah, I actually got discharged yesterday afternoon."
She looked at him, wide-eyed. "And you didn't think to tell me?"
Laz pouted, his lips curling in mock regret. "I wanted to surprise you."
