Bessie saw Delphine and Ignatius standing by the green window drapes, speaking in low voices, a flicker of envy and hatred flashing through her eyes.
"Delphine, Jocelyn and I are about to get engaged. Aren't you happy for me?" Bessie stood up, walked over, her smile as radiant as a blooming flower.
Delphine instinctively took a step back in fear. The childhood shadows of being bullied still lingered, and she had always disliked being too close to this fourth Miss of the Leclair Family.
Ignatius narrowed his eyes, shooting Bessie a warning glance.
Bessie sneered coldly, ignoring him, and instead reached out to loop her arm affectionately through Delphine's. "Delphine, I've always thought of you as my little sister. At my engagement banquet, could you be my bridesmaid?" Her tone was warm and intimate.
