The car ride from Luxe Plaza to Shantel's apartment was uneventful with ten minutes of near silence interrupted only by the hum of traffic and the occasional ding of Beatrice's phone.
She had tried to sneak glances at Shantel, wondering why her cousin seemed different from the boisterous and happening city girl she'd grown to envy. Why did she look like she was more of a business woman than the club girl she'd heard about?
But Shantel remained unreadable, mostly typing away on her phone.
Was she chatting? Who was she chatting with? Beatrice couldn't help but wonder.
When they arrived, Beatrice followed her up to the fifth floor of a modest but modern building tucked just off a tree-lined street
But as soon as she stepped through the door, Beatrice blinked.
It wasn't a penthouse obviously. But it wasn't even a duplex. Just a modest studio layout sectioned with clean, intentional design.
It was small… No, way smaller than she'd expected.
