"Scyther~"
Scyther obviously knew what he was going to say. After all, after spending twenty days together, the trainer and the Pokémon had developed a very good rapport.
It knew that the human in front of it was not a bad person, and the suggestion he was about to make was quite reasonable.
But it couldn't accept it.
So before Silas could even speak, it shook its head, clearly expressing its refusal.
Silas could only shake his head helplessly and give up on the idea.
He had been communicating with Scyther, hoping that it would accompany him for a while longer and continue acting as a mentor to Blaziken, who had recently evolved from Torchic.
Even though Blaziken had learned a lot under Scyther's guidance, there were still many things it hadn't fully mastered.
Silas had even made arrangements for its future training.
However, Scyther had its own pride and principles. It decisively refused.
Now, with Combusken evolved and the trio about to leave, Scyther's decision remained unchanged.
Silas, of course, understood and respected its choice.
Even though he felt a deep sense of regret, he didn't force it.
After all, for him, capturing Scyther by force would be an easy task, but that wasn't what he wanted, nor would it benefit anyone.
"Scyther~"
Blaziken also looked at Scyther.
Scyther firmly shook its head.
"Sc-Scy~ Scyther!"
Then it spread the blade-like wings on its back, leapt into the air, and prepared to fly off into the distance.
"Wait!"
Silas quickly called out to Scyther, pulling a bag of pre-prepared Pokéblocks from his backpack.
"Take these. Use them sparingly. They should last you a long time."
The airborne Scyther silently used its foot to hook the bag on the ground.
It crossed its sharp scythe arms in front of its chest and gave a small bow to Silas and his three Pokémon. Then it turned around and flew off without looking back.
As he watched Scyther leave, Silas clapped his hands.
"Alright, time for us to go too."
The three Pokémon finally averted their reluctant gazes.
Over the past twenty days of instruction, Scyther had not just served as Blaziken's teacher, as originally planned.
While mastery of Fighting-type moves wasn't exactly its specialty, as a natural-born warrior even without a Fighting typing—Scyther possessed outstanding talent.
Combined with its vast experience, it came across as a seasoned and skillful mentor.
Its true specialty lay in aerial combat techniques, though due to physical decline from age, many advanced techniques could no longer be performed.
Still, Scyther had passed on all its knowledge and techniques to Pidgeot.
Due to differences in size and habits, many of the moves weren't directly applicable to Pidgeot, but through analogy and adaptation, Pidgeot's flying skills had significantly improved under Scyther's guidance.
For a Flying-type Pokémon, this improvement translated directly into a major boost in combat power.
Then there was Boldore. In the final ten days, Scyther mostly served as its sparring partner.
Since Combusken and Pidgeot had grown far stronger than Boldore, many techniques were hard to observe or replicate when practiced on them.
Scyther, though still an Advance-level Pokémon, was now held back by age. This made it a perfect match for Boldore's training needs.
Take the Gravity move they had just tested, for instance Silas hoped Boldore could eventually learn to manipulate gravity with variable intensity.
In simpler terms, he wanted the Gravity field to have different gravity levels in different zones, and for Boldore to control and alter those zones at will.
For example, a Pokémon could be enjoying normal gravity one second, then suddenly step into an area with ten times gravity or a region where gravity dropped to one-tenth its normal force the very next step.
Such abrupt changes would undoubtedly catch the opposing Pokémon off guard.
Even when training under weighted conditions or inside a gravity chamber, even the strongest Pokémon bodies still require time to adjust.
Excessive or extremely low gravitational pressure would cause them to lose their normal control over their own bodies.
At the beginning, Boldore's progress was slow. Although it sounded easy to describe, pulling it off in practice was extremely difficult.
First, one had to possess deep understanding and insight into the move. Then, it required extremely high-level control over elemental energy. On top of that, the user had to learn how to multitask—otherwise, they couldn't manage all aspects at once. And finally, it needed relentless practice until it became an instinctive response.
Fortunately, Boldore had solid potential. Before long, it achieved the first step: a tiered gravity field layout.
That is, starting from the outermost ring with 0.5x gravity, the inner rings gradually increased to 1x, 2x, and so on.
This setup actually made for a great training ground for Combusken at the time. It helped it quickly adapt to different gravity levels and build strength. Otherwise, it would've wasted quite a bit of time.
But in actual battles, this version of Gravity was potentially even less useful than the original one.
The tiered distribution gave opponents time to gradually adapt, which undermined the surprise factor. So further improvement was necessary.
Until today within just ten days—Mantlerock, with feedback from Scyther's personal experience, managed to refine the technique into something with real combat value: a gravity field with essentially chaotic and irregular gravity levels.
"Essentially chaotic" because most of the field was still laid out by Boldore itself, with some predictable habits embedded in it.
Only someone like Silas, who trained alongside it day and night and coordinated with Zero, could barely discern a pattern. Outsiders wouldn't have a clue.
Of course, it still needed further upgrades, to reach the vision Silas had in mind.
Coming back to the present, all three Pokémon were now looking at Silas.
He slapped his cheeks lightly, then raised both arms.
"Alright, everyone! Time to move on! Our next destination—Cerulean City!"
"Blaziken!" "Pidgeot~!" "Boldore!"
Blaziken, Pidgeot, and Boldore each responded in their own passionate, excited tones to their Trainer.
Although they felt sad about parting ways with their comrade and mentor-like Scyther, they clearly understood that for Scyther, the forest was its true home.
Likewise, for them, being by their Trainer's side was their true home.
"Charge forward!"
Silas took the lead, charging off in the direction of Cerulean City.
The three Pokémon blinked. Was he planning to run the whole way?
Boldore immediately began swinging its three arms and quickly picked up speed—otherwise, it might actually fall behind its Trainer.
Blaziken lowered its body slightly, assuming a runner's starting stance. With a powerful kick, only a streak of crimson could be seen weaving through the forest, soon catching up to Silas's front flank.
As for the last Pokémon, Pidgeot lazily stretched its wings and took to the air with the demeanor of an old man out for a stroll. In the blink of an eye, it had vanished among the thick trees and branches.
