Selene could feel her heart pounding rapidly in her chest as she stepped into the hall, side by side with Nikolas.
And then, as if he had just sensed her anxiousness, he reached for her hand, with her palm already slick with sweat, and wrapped his arms around it, not minding at all.
She inhaled deeply, trying to calm her nerves. This was what she wanted. This had been the plan.
So why did it suddenly feel like she should not have come here?
"Selene, I need you to know that you have got this. You can do this, okay?" Nikolas said as he whispered in her ear.
And somehow, that one single sentence had changed everything.
It was like the fear had immediately slipped right out of her body, and had been replaced by being instantly plumped full all at once at least one dosage of Nikolas Darkos's confidence.
She gave him a quick nod and whispered, a breathy "Thank you," then exhaled deeply.
