Draconic Melody

(3rd POV: Author)
In the air, the Shift-wing, Akira's personal stealth hovercraft, meticulously followed the Destiny's Bounty. The sleek vehicle would land next to the ship whenever the Bounty had to refuel, before gracefully lifting back into the air to resume its silent escort.
Randomly, a familiar falcon, its dark feathers sleek against the sky, perched atop one of the Shift-wing's optical sensors. This was the same falcon that had once led Zane to find Lloyd's hidden treehouse. From its vantage point, the avian observer intently watched the ninja training below, its focus particularly drawn to the precise, almost mechanical movements of the white ninja, Zane, as he practiced his katas.
Suddenly, a sharp crackle of magenta electricity erupted from the optical sensor the bird had perched upon, a searing bolt coursing through its small form. If anyone had been watching closely, they would have been astonished to see the falcon's small chestplates whir open, revealing its intricate, hidden mechanical nature as the elemental energy pulsed through its circuits.
After a few seconds, the falcon's yellow eyes flickered to a brilliant, almost blinding silver, before quickly returning to their original color as its chest-plates slid back together seamlessly, hiding its robotic nature once more. It resumed its silent vigil, appearing as nothing more than a real falcon, its gaze still fixed on Zane.

(3rd POV: Akira)
Akira observed the ninja through the falcon's eyes, the feed projected onto a vibrant purple holographic screen by a robotic drone.
The drone itself was a larger-than-average King Cobra, finished in matte gunmetal grey with striking amber-gold accents that formed a stylized "V" pattern on its head and striped bands along its body, stopping at its tail. Within these amber bands, glowing purple lights pulsed faintly, mimicking the rise and fall of breath.
Its calm red, robotic eyes held a steady gaze, and the Ninjago symbol for "Source" was emblazoned on its chest.
While Akira was thus engrossed, Lloyd sat comfortably on the bed, absorbed in an issue of his Starfarer comic book, one he had asked Akira to procure for him.
[CLICK, BEEP, CLICK]
Akira rumbled softly in her chest, a low, thoughtful sound. "I suppose you have a point, little cobra," she murmured, the holographic screen vanishing with a wave of her hand. "Why stay here, or why not take over Ouroboros?" She paused, her eyes narrowing with a hint of disdain.
"While I could easily and forcefully take over this city, I would not have the people's trust. Unlike Pythor, I am not obsessed with awakening the Devourer and using tricks to win the allegiance of the other serpentine tribes." Her voice was laced with clear disapproval of Pythor's recent actions.
Akira looked at Lloyd, still immersed in his comic, her eyes softening. She stretched her arm down toward the cobra drone as it slithered up her arm and coiled comfortably around her shoulders. Her tail gave a gentle, almost imperceptible twitch, a sign of her relaxed contemplation.
'That's true,' she mused, reflecting on the drone's implicit question. 'But forcing allegiance gains nothing lasting. Trust... trust is earned.' Her thoughts drifted further.
'I've had another encounter recently, with someone from a... different version of Ninjago. One of my own species as well. Perhaps I should try to travel to these... Mirror Realms.' She turned her gaze to Lloyd, a protective instinct overriding her curiosity. 'But not now. Maybe when Pythor has been dealt with.'
[Knocks]
Just then someone knocked on the door. "Come in!" The door opened, and Selma walked into the room with a tray of food that had two sandwiches and two bottles of water.
Lloyd looked up from his comic, seeing the food, he immediately sat up from the bed and moved to the table as Selma placed the tray down. "Thank you," Lloyd said, before quickly taking a bite of his sandwich.
Selma then moved to stand next to Akira. "Lady Akira, you know that you can leave the room whenever you want, right?" Selma said with a professional tone, though her red eyes widened almost imperceptibly with admiration as she added, "Even if Vengestone nullified your powers completely, Pythor wouldn't be able to stop you with your natural strength."
Akira looked at Selma with a soft, friendly smile. "You know, you don't have to act so professionally around me," she chuckled, gently poking Selma's side, careful to mind her sharp claws. "Calm down, you were acting so enthusiastic a few days ago."
Selma blushed softly with embarrassment, a faint red tinting her pink scaled cheeks.
"O-okay, as long as you're okay with it." She stuttered a reply. Akira nodded in response as Selma relaxed.
Akira's amethyst gaze drifted to the scroll shelves on the opposite side of the room. These weren't ordinary shelves; they manifested from a personal pocket dimension she had crafted, a secure repository for anything she deemed valuable, irrespective of its monetary worth.
Within this hidden space, she safeguarded ancient currencies of the five serpentine tribes, intricately carved serpentine statues of various sizes, a vast collection of remaining Anacondrai blades and armor, and invaluable ancient serpentine history scrolls.
Her dimension also housed rare materials, like Fusanium, an ore she had discovered and painstakingly collected. Additionally, she preserved potent artifacts, ranging from the legendary Obsidian Weapons to a complete set of Wolf Clan masks used in the brutal training of Shatter-spin.
With a flick of her finger, a shining silver scroll slid from the shelf and floated before her. Labeled "Khol-dyn"—Forbidden Spinjitzu—in gold lettering, the scroll unraveled itself in the air, its contents humming with an ancient, unstable power, a faint vibration felt despite its fresh creation.
"What's that?" Lloyd asked, pulling Akira's gaze to him. Selma also looked at the scroll with curiosity.
"It's a scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu," Akira answered, and both Lloyd's and Selma's eyes widened with curiosity.
"Is it like Shatter-spin?" Selma asked this time.
Akira shook her head. "While it's similar, Forbidden Spinjitzu can be used by anyone who can use proper Spinjitzu, though its power is unstable and slowly corrupts anyone who uses it for extended periods of time."
Lloyd's excitement dimmed at the explanation. "Aw. Why does all the cool stuff make people evil?" he groaned. Akira chuckled softly as she glided over to him and ruffled his hair. "Don't worry, Vælnok, unlike the forbidden scrolls made by the First Spinjitzu Master, my forbidden scroll won't turn you evil," she affirmed, and Lloyd perked up with renewed excitement.
"Though it still has its addictive qualities, so other than training with my supervision, I would suggest only using Forbidden Spinjitzu as a last resort," she added. Lloyd's excitement dimmed slightly once more, but he understood Akira's concern, still brimming with visible anticipation at the prospect of using the technique.
Akira turned to Selma. "What's your favorite color?" she asked suddenly.
Selma tilted her head with a thoughtful hum. "Purple. Specifically a deep, vibrant purple."
Lloyd looked surprised. "I thought it was pink." Selma chortled softly, placing a hand on her hip. "Hatchling, just because I have pink scales doesn't mean it's my favorite color," she said with a bit of sassy humor. "It's one of them though," she added cheekily.
Lloyd deadpanned as Akira laughed.
(Scene break)
A few days had passed, and the city of Ouroboros was bustling with serpentine. In their room, Lloyd was poring over Serpentine history from Akira's scrolls—a task he had grudgingly undertaken due to his "school issue," even with the inherent differences between human and serpentine education.
Meanwhile, Akira continued to observe the ninja through the falcon's eyes. Two of them had recently unlocked their full potentials. Zane achieved his by following the mechanical bird to a house built into a giant tree, later revealed to be his old home.
During this discovery, the ninja learned Zane was a Nindroid, and that the falcon itself was a robot, leading Zane to reclaim his lost memories.
Jay, from what Akira understood, had unlocked his full potential by "becoming more confident in himself."
'How... cliché,' she thought. "Well," she muttered with a small sigh, "Elemental power and essences work in mysterious ways, even to me. And with Pythor having the Map of Fangs and the first Fang Blade, he will undoubtedly send me to retrieve the next one soon."
"Can I stop now?" Akira perked up at Lloyd's question, turning to him and glancing at the scroll she had given him.
"Did you finish reading it?"
He nodded rapidly. "Uh-huh. Can I finish reading my comic now? Please?" he pleaded with puppy-dog eyes. Akira responded with an affirmative nod and a soft smile.
"Sweet!" Lloyd quickly but carefully rolled up the scroll and ran to place it back on the shelf before swiftly grabbing his comic and settling back on the bed to continue reading where he had left off.
[Knock-Knock-Knock]
"Uh, Akira. Pythor wishes to see you." Selma began as she opened the door and entered the room. Akira dismissed the holographic screen and looked at Selma for a moment before glancing at Lloyd. "I expected him to have me collect the next Fang Blade much sooner, but," she shrugged, "whatever."
Akira turned back to face Selma. "Could you please watch over Lloyd? I don't trust leaving him alone with the other Serpentine, even if they'll avoid harming him due to their fear of incurring my ire."
Selma nodded with a smile. "Of course I can. I'll make sure he doesn't get into too much trouble."
As Akira began to slither away, she paused her exit. "Actually, I have a gift for you." She said, placing a hand on Selma's shoulder.
Selma tilted her head in curiosity, her serpent tongue flicking with a hint of excitement. "What kind of gift?" Her tail wagged slightly as she asked with poorly hidden enthusiasm.
Akira took a deep breath, her amethyst eyes filled with resolution. "I will be granting you an elemental power." Selma gasped softly in disbelief. "You can do that?" Surprise filled her tone.
Akira nodded in response. "Yes. Though, this will be the first time I've permanently bestowed an elemental power upon anyone." Before Selma could ask, Akira continued her explanation. "I have, of course, experimented with this ability to perfect it. But any elemental power I've given out was always temporary because I didn't fully trust anyone."
"Just stand over here, and I'll do the rest." Akira finished, gently guiding Selma into a clearer area. "This may, no, will feel strange at first."
Selma nodded. "Okay, I trust you."
A multicolored bioluminescent mist began to emanate from the cracked patterns in Akira's dorsal spikes, and her maw glowed with white ethereal light. The ethereal light ejected from her maw and surged into Selma's chest. As the elemental energy entered the pink Hypnobrai, the ethereal light shifted from white to a vibrant purple.
Selma's eyes glowed a deep purple, and the Ninjago symbol for Plasma faintly materialized on her chest before fading away as the last vestiges of energy bonded with her body.
All of this transpired in under half a minute. Selma stumbled back, reeling from the initial shock of elemental energy rapidly flowing through her, before it gradually began to settle.
Just before Selma fell, Akira caught her, gently laying her down on the couch. "Hey, hey. It's okay. I should have toned it down a bit; I didn't realize how much it could hurt you. I'm sorry."
Selma shook her head in dismissal.
"No... it's fine," she breathed out. "I didn't think I would feel anything, so I didn't even brace myself for it." She let out a small laugh. "I guess we were both at fault. I'm not hurt, just... [yawns] tired."
Akira smiled in relief, then began to slither across the room, glancing at Lloyd. "Lloyd."
"Yes?" He responded, looking up from his comic.
"Selma's in charge while I'm gone. So, while she's resting, make sure not to cause her any trouble, please." The cobra drone slithered down from her shoulders, coiling onto the table. "I'm leaving the Cobra here. If you need to call me, just ask it, and it will." She finished, gliding out the door and closing it behind her.
(Scene break)
Akira, Pythor, Skales, and a fairly large group of serpentine traveled through a pyramid-like structure, following the Map of Fangs. Pythor and Akira suddenly halted, causing Skales to bump into Pythor as he was too focused on the map.
"Why must we stop when the next Fang Blade is just ahead of us?" Skales questioned.
In response, Pythor slammed the bottom of his staff against the rock tiles in front of him, causing a small section to collapse and fall into a gaping pit. "What good is unlocking the Great Devourer with the four Fangblades, if we're not around to see it?" Pythor snarked, getting uncomfortably close to Skales' face, who flinched.
Pythor turned to Akira with a calmer demeanor. "Would you be a dear and fetch the Fang Blade?"
She rolled her eyes in annoyance before using the element of gravity to float over the gaping hole. Akira landed safely on the other side, then casually continued her trek, slithering across and activating a pressure plate. This caused a section of the ceiling covered in spikes to slowly descend.
Akira huffed. 'Such primitive booby traps. I could devise far superior ones,' she mused with a touch of arrogance as she simply smacked the spikes, breaking them off before proceeding to the next set of traps.
Pythor unintelligibly grumbled in annoyance at her minor display of strength. Akira purposely slithered over the next pressure plate, activating a trap that unleashed a volley of arrows from both sides of the ancient stone hallway. The arrows, however, harmlessly bounced off her scales without leaving a scratch.
The next trap consisted of a precarious bamboo pole barely supporting a crumbled section of the ceiling; even a slight tremor would cause it to collapse. Akira avoided it by slithering around, entering a room that featured a stone pedestal. She glided up the steps, only to find an empty indent in the shape of the missing Fang Blade.
Akira huffed in annoyance, slamming her tail against the ground in irritation. "Such a waste of time." She turned to leave, her tail whipping against the bamboo pole, causing the roof behind her to collapse.
"It's gone," Akira stated bluntly.
"What! What do you mean it's gone?" Pythor exclaimed, his anger further irritating Akira.
"It means it's gone, Pythor!" she snarled. Pythor flinched back in fear at her fearsome demeanor as she headed back the way they came.
(Scene break)
In a large, more modern village, a manhole cover opened, and Skales poked his head out. "It's here. I can feel it." he said with excitement as Pythor's long neck emerged from the manhole.
"Calm down. There's no need to attract unwanted attention," Pythor whispered to Skales.
"Look, the ninja," Skales pointed out quietly.
[singing] " Bop till you drop— Shake it till you break it" Kai and Jay began, slightly off-key as they struck a pose. " Move it till you lose it— Spin it till you win it " Zane and Cole finished, their voices more in tune with the rhythm.
"Ugh, now there's no chance to get it," Skales grumbled.
"Patience. We're snakes, remember? They'll never see us coming." Pythor countered, pulling out a piece of paper that read: "Ninjago Talent: Open Audition." "Hmm. Open audition." He chuckled maniacally as they descended back into the manhole, which closed above them.
(Scene break)
The talent show, held in Ninjago City, buzzed with activity backstage as contestants prepared for their turns. Among them were a young, elegantly dressed woman juggling, a beatboxing man, the ninja practicing their dance routine, and Akira, who wore a large, hooded black kimono that concealed most of her form.
After a while, she observed the ninja—mainly Cole—having a minor argument with an older man. Cole then used Spinjitzu, changing back into his ninja suit. 'So that's his father,' Akira mused. 'I suppose not everyone always has a good relationship with family.'
Following that encounter, a group of serpentine—one from each tribe, excluding Anacondrai—exited a room with a noticeable blend of arrogance and swagger in their steps. The door to their room bore the label: 'Treble Makers.' Soon, they too began to practice.
'They are terribly off-key,' Akira thought with slight contempt, observing the serpentine's very poor disguises that somehow fooled most of the humans in the building. She quietly glided towards one of the support beams and extended her left arm, allowing the Cobra drone—which she had retrieved from Ouroboros before leaving, after checking on Lloyd and Selma—to slither out of her sleeve and climb up the beam, disappearing from sight.
"I can't help it if I offend anyone," Pythor's loud, yet muffled voice echoed from behind the curtains. "My only job will be to tell the truth."
Akira ignored him. She pulled out a small, flat, dull yellow rectangular bar and pressed a button on its side. It split open, revealing a high-tech tablet. The screen displayed a live feed of the front stage, viewed through the Cobra drone's eyes. Akira tapped the screen, and a red dot appeared in the top right corner, signifying that it was recording.
The staff also had their own professional camera aimed at the stage, recording the performance live.
One by one the contestants were called out to perform in front of the audience, until it got to the final three. The announcer, in practiced dramatics, slid onto the main stage after the previous contestant left the stage. "Up next! The Treble Makers!" He quickly left the stage as the serpentine group got on stage, with microphones in hand, and proceeded to sing, terribly off tune.
" My poison lies over the ocean My poison lies over the sea" The audience, including the judges — excluding Pythor — grimaced with irritation and discomfort at the horribly off rhythm song, whilst Pythor moved to the terrible rhythm, seeming to enjoy it. " My poison lies over the ocean Oh, bring back my poison to meeee "
The disguised serpentine in the crowd began to cheer and clap at the performance, with even two Skullkin cheering as well.
Pythor whistled toward the serpentine band, pulling out a sign with the number 10, the rest of the crowd booing in dissatisfaction. The two human judges pulled out signs with the number 6, before Pythor noticed and growled at them menacingly. In fear the judges flipped the signs upside down, turning the 6 into a 9.
The Treble Makers bowed their heads whilst the crowd still booed them, as they left the stage. The announcer once again slid onto the stage. "And next up! The second to last contestant! Shattered Harmony!

Akira slithered onto the stage with her own microphone in hand. She took a deep breath and began:
" This is the daaay of the forbidden The legends are rising the balance must breaak "
Everyone in the crowd watched in awe as Akira sang. "She actually sings pretty well," Pythor begrudgingly admitted, muttering.
" Remember the daay, of the forbidden they're coming to claim it beware of their waaake! Chaos in the lands once shattered all of Ninjago now fights for its fate Echoes calling from the past, the storm is here at last, whoaa! And the realms keep on shifting, dark powers unforgiving it's a warning through the years, a time to face your fears And the day that we've been dreading now is finally here There's a shadow in the air, try not too disappear "
" This is the day... of the forbidden. The legends are rising, the balance must break. Remember the day! Of the forbidden. They're coming to claim it. Beware of their wake. "
" Meanwhile in the halls of power, fates collide in the darkest hour. Ancient forces now return, to watch the city's burn. Whoa! And the war is... now brewing. Destiny's... undoing. Until the lost ones rise again. We may not see the end. They're coming to claim it... try not to disappear. "
" This is the day! Of the forbidden. The legends are rising. The balance must break! Remember the day! Of the forbidden. They're coming to claim it. Beware of their wake! "
Following the rhythm of the music, Akira began to slowly lower her voice; her vocals became much quieter, but still more than loud enough to hear through the speakers.
" This is the day. Of the forbidden. The legends are rising. The balance must break. Remember the day. Of the forbidden. They're coming to claim it. Beware of their waake."
The beat of the music continued for a while longer before finally stopping. The crowd began to cheer loudly a few seconds later, amazed by Akira's performance.
The judges pulled out signs with the number 10. Begrudgingly, Pythor followed suit. Akira blushed slightly at the attention—unnoticed due to her concealed face—before quickly but calmly slithering off stage to wait for the ninja to finish their performance.
(Scene break)
The ninja's performance culminated in a dramatic finish. Cole executed the Triple Tiger Sashay, a dance technique notoriously difficult even for professional dancers. He performed it flawlessly, using the serpentine who had attempted to thwart the ninja's performance: kicking one atop the head, then punching another in the face, and finally, while upside down, head-butting the last snake before landing on the floor in a dramatic pose.
The crowd fell silent for a few moments, then erupted into cheers even louder than before. The announcer quickly ran onto the stage and stood next to Cole, the spotlight fixed on him. "Oh! He did it!" the announcer exclaimed with excitement, dropping to his knees and slapping his hands against the floor dramatically. "The Triple Tiger Sashay! He's danced the impossible!" He pumped his fist into the air as the crowd somehow cheered even louder.
The judges lifted their signs with the number 10. Pythor lifted his sign with the number 0, and the crowd booed him for his blatant bias. Suddenly, something began to move in Pythor's stomach, causing him to start belching as a human arm emerged from his mouth and wrote the number 1 next to the 0, making it a 10.
A small gasp escaped Pythor as he looked at his sign in disbelief. "What? Wait! I didn't write that!" His voice went unheard as the crowd began cheering once again.
"It's a perfect score! And a tie! Something that hasn't happened in the Ninjago Talent Show in years! Spin Harmony and Slither Harmony both win The Blade Cup!" Akira slithered back onto the stage after the announcement, holding up the trophy—which had the Fang Blade connected to its top—with the ninja.
Her arm was bent slightly as she was taller than the ninja. Pythor threw his sign aside in anger. "Ooh. This is a travesty of epic proportions!" he complained. "I demand a recount!"
Backstage, the ninja conversed with enthusiasm, while Akira watched not far behind. "I've never felt more alive," Zane said, exhilarated. Jay laughed. "Ha, ha! We did it!" They all began to chuckle. "No, Cole did it," Kai interrupted, still chuckling slightly. "Because of you, Ninjago will sleep safely tonight," he added, referring to the Fang Blade.
Cole, who was carrying the large trophy, sighed. "Thanks, but go on and celebrate without me. Winning this just doesn't feel the same without my dad being able to—" As he handed Jay the trophy, Cole was interrupted by an older man shouting his name. "Cole!" In response, Cole looked over to the other end of the backstage area to see his father.
"I saw it all, son." Lou said as he began walking toward his son, his cane aiding his limping stride. Cole, too, began to run toward his father. "I saw it all." They both stopped in front of each other before Lou spread out his arms, allowing Cole to go in for an embrace.
Akira tilted her head at the sight, memories of her and Arcturus resurfacing. She smiled softly at the memories, staying quiet so as not to ruin their moment. "You saw me dance?" Cole asked. "More importantly, I saw you fight," Lou answered, holding Cole's shoulders. "Those Serpentine were up to no good, trying to steal the show, and I saw you stand up for what is right." He added proudly. "I was wrong," he admitted after a pause of silence.
"I shouldn't have pushed you so hard to follow in my footsteps. Everyone is born with a special talent inside that's just waiting to get out. And you were born to be a ninja."
"You're not mad?" Cole asked, relieved. "How can I be?" Lou said. "My son's a hero." He added, joy lacing his tone.
Akira looked to the right to see Pythor slithering toward the ninja before stopping. "Ehh, sorry to interrupt your little family reunion, but did you know," he said sarcastically, before ripping off his fake beard, "it's me, Pythor?"
"You couldn't fool us, Pythor." Cole said, the ninja clearly unsurprised by his sudden reveal. Pythor chuckled maniacally. "I didn't want you to miss our big show stopper." He gestured to the two Constrictai warriors atop the support beam that had a heavy crate hooked onto a rail.
In response, the warriors pushed the crate, causing it to slide along the rails and crash into a bunch of spare speakers and the spotlights that were aimed at the main stage, causing them to fall on top of both Cole and his father.
Cole stood over his father in an attempt to protect him.
The moment the speakers and broken spotlights hit the ground, dust clouds billowed into the air, masking Akira as she retrieved the Fang Cup trophy from Jay and began their escape. Pythor and the other serpentine went ahead as Akira paused and turned around to see the Scythe of Quakes shining brightly with energy. "He's reached his full potential." She muttered as she saw Cole lifting the debris off both himself and his father, glowing with elemental earth energy.
She quickly slipped away to catch up with Pythor as they headed back towards Ouroboros. Both Pythor and Skales began chuckling maniacally, before Pythor suddenly stopped. "Why are you laughing?" He snarked. Skales looked at him in confusion. "Only I can laugh evilly." He added with arrogance, before continuing to chuckle evilly.
Akira rolled her eyes. She inspected the trophy before removing the Fang Blade from it and casually threw it toward Pythor, who yelped as it flew over his head. He growled before grabbing the Fang Blade. "Two down, two left to find." He commented as they boarded a Fangpyre bus.
(Scene break)
Akira, still holding the trophy, slithered through one of the sandstone buildings of Ouroboros, heading towards her room.
Once she reached her room door, she opened it and went inside. She saw both Lloyd and Selma on the couch, with Lloyd already asleep on Selma's lap. Selma looked up at the sound of the door opening, seeing Akira as she slithered into the room and placed the trophy on the table.
She looked back down at Lloyd with soft eyes and began massaging his head. "He's a good kid," Selma began. "We had lots of fun playing those video games once I woke up."
Akira chuckled softly. "Yes, he is." She dropped onto the couch next to Selma. "So, what kind of elemental power did you give me?" Selma asked. "Plasma. But, you should wait a few days to let your body get used to the power." Selma nodded attentively as she continued to massage Lloyd's head.
(End)
I'm really sorry that this took so long for how short it ended up being. I had some writers block, but I hope you enjoyed it
