Reo Carter's chest moved steadily as he slept soundly in his high-rise apartment.
With a playful smirk on her lips, Chloe leaned on one elbow next to him, her brown hair cascading over her shoulder. As she traced his face, she was astounded that the murderer she knew could appear so vulnerable and human.
She reached out, her fingers lightly brushing his ear, teasing just enough to test him.
She assumed he would sleep through it, but Reo's hand sprang up and quickly grabbed her wrist. His voice was rough but tinged with fake annoyance, and his crimson eyes opened slightly, glinting in the dim light. "Chloe, please let me sleep for once."
Her laughter was warm and quiet in the room. She moved closer until her breath warmed his cheek, teasing, "I touched your ear and you woke from a dead sleep just because."
