The atmosphere in the arena was tense, charged with anticipation as the finalists prepared for the upcoming battles. Naruto stood at the edge of the training grounds, his mind preoccupied with the events that had unfolded.
Tsunade, however, was grappling with something far more unsettling. She knew all too well the conditions required to perform the Edo Tensei jutsu—it necessitated the cells and flesh of her two grandfathers, the First Hokage Hashirama Senju and the Second Hokage Tobirama Senju.
There was no need to elaborate on how deeply offensive this was. Not only were their souls being desecrated, but their very bodies were being violated. The combination of these two abhorrent acts left Tsunade reeling, unable to process the sheer audacity of it all.
As she stared at Danzo Shimura, his smug expression told her everything she needed to know about who was responsible for summoning the First and Second Hokages. Realizing the gravity of Danzo's transgression, Tsunade felt an overwhelming urge to shatter his skull with a single punch. Her face paled, and she struggled to steady her breathing, fighting to calm herself down.
Tsunade understood the harsh reality of her situation. Danzo was an elder of the village—his status and power placed him beyond her ability to confront openly without consequences. Moreover, with Uchiha Madara lurking nearby, watching like a predator ready to strike, the only hope lay in her grandfathers themselves. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but it was the truth.
If even Tsunade, one of the strongest shinobi in the world, was rendered helpless, what could anyone else do?
Hiruzen Sarutobi, still sprawled lifelessly on the ground, remained unmoving. The silence that hung over the battlefield was deafening.
Since the appearance of Hashirama and Tobirama, Madara's gaze had been fixed unwaveringly on Hashirama. A deep-seated instinct stirred within him, an ancient connection that resonated through time. Even though he was now merely a vessel for the true Madara's consciousness, the karmic ties between him and Hashirama persisted.
This unresolved bond was part of why Madara had come to Konoha—to sever his fated connection with Hashirama once and for all.
But what irked Madara most was the current state of Hashirama and Tobirama. Something seemed… off about them. Their spirits appeared to be under someone else's control.
Glancing at Danzo, whose self-satisfied smirk spoke volumes, Madara immediately understood the situation. Though Danzo was nothing more than a troublemaker, his actions had created a significant problem—one that infuriated Madara.
With a sudden flare of chakra, Madara activated his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, his crimson eyes glowing ominously. His voice cut through the air like a blade slicing through ice:
"Shimura Danzo! You bastard! What have you done to Hashirama?!"
Madara's words sent ripples of confusion through the crowd. Everyone turned their attention toward Hashirama and Tobirama, scrutinizing them closely.
At first glance, nothing seemed amiss. But upon closer inspection, the issue became glaringly obvious.
Something was clearly wrong with the mental states of the two Hokages!
When combined with Madara's accusation, suspicion fell squarely on Danzo. Tsunade, in particular, locked eyes with Danzo, her glare sharp enough to pierce steel.
Could it be… that this man truly committed such a heinous act?
Danzo, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, began to panic. However, his momentary fear quickly dissipated. After all, the First and Second Hokages were currently under his control—he could make them do whatever he pleased. Aside from Madara, whom he still regarded with some trepidation, everyone else posed no threat to him.
"Uchiha Madara," Danzo retorted hastily, attempting to defend himself, "don't try to deceive us with your clever words and sow discord among our ranks! This is simply a minor error during the Edo Tensei process—it's nothing more than that!"
Danzo's explanation wasn't entirely implausible, and the audience wavered uncertainly.
Madara shook his head dismissively. "Pathetic excuses. Arguing with you is a waste of my time. Let Hashirama and Tobirama settle this matter with you directly."
Upon hearing this, Danzo's blood ran cold. He already suspected what Madara intended to do and hurriedly formed hand seals to reinforce the restraining seals implanted in Hashirama and Tobirama's minds.
But it was too late. Madara's overwhelming ocular power surged into their consciousness through their eyes, shattering the seals controlling them in an instant.
Feeling the connection between himself and the two Hokages severed completely, Danzo's face turned ashen, beads of cold sweat trickling down his forehead.
It was over. All of it. His ambitions, his desires—all dashed before they could even begin.
Understanding the full weight of his betrayal, Danzo felt the world collapse around him. He foresaw his impending doom and nearly collapsed, his legs trembling beneath him.
Within seconds of the seals breaking, Hashirama and Tobirama regained their senses.
"Hmm? Is it over?"
"I thought I was under mental control… Who freed us?"
The two Hokages surveyed their surroundings warily, taking in the scene before them.
What greeted them was a devastated battlefield—half of Konoha lay in ruins. On one side stood the remnants of the village, with Hiruzen lying prone on the ground and Tsunade covered in blood. It didn't take long for them to realize that Konoha had suffered a crushing defeat.
And on the other side stood a lone figure—the man responsible for it all.
As soon as they laid eyes on him, both Hashirama and Tobirama froze. Despite his altered appearance, there was no mistaking that face. They would never forget it—not even in death.
Uchiha Madara. Alive. And wreaking havoc on Konoha.
Hashirama scratched his head absentmindedly, muttering to himself, "So the enemy is Madara… No wonder…"
Tobirama, however, was less focused on Madara and more concerned with the circumstances surrounding their resurrection. Turning sharply, he locked onto Danzo, his piercing gaze promising retribution.
