Chapter 118: Meteorites Fall From the Sky!
Above Enies Lobby, the sky remained clear, but just outside its range, on the Bridge of Hesitation leading to the Gates of Justice, the sky was instead dark with gathering clouds.
The sea surface churned with turbulent waves, and a chilling wind, carrying a biting cold, began to whip drizzling rain against people's faces.
Beneath the bridge were massive oval pillars, within which various disorderly rooms like warehouses, observation posts, and cannon batteries were distributed.
And at this moment on the bridge, silvery fine rain dripped down.
Spandam shielded his face, squinting. Through the smoke and dust, his gaze fell upon the figure in the golden hair and blue shirt. He drew the sword hanging at his waist, a triumphant, sinister smile spreading across his face:
"Just in time to test my beloved pet on you! Funkfreed, the treasured sword realized through new technology developed by the World Government, capable of allowing an object to 'eat' a Devil Fruit!"
As he spoke, the longsword in Spandam's hand began to swell and enlarge, a giant elephant's head materializing.
"And it... is the sword that has eaten the Zou Zou no Mi, Elephant-Elephant Fruit! Although my own strength is not great, I can still rely on it to possess combat power surpassing ordinary men!"
Reiner looked at Spandam before him, who had just stopped Lucci and declared he would slaughter Reiner himself.
He then glanced down at the ground, cracked like a spiderweb... Has he always been this brave?
Reiner couldn't help but be curious. If he hadn't misheard, this sword ate a Devil Fruit, not his brain, right?
Lucci didn't stop Spandam's actions; he had no time to bother with this idiot anyway, because Luffy, wreathed in white steam, was already charging straight towards him.
The fine rain pattered against Reiner's body, dark blue spots gradually appearing on his shirt as water droplets slid down his golden hair.
He tugged at his collar, undoing two buttons, then grinned, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. "Since you're so eager to die... then come on!"
"Funkfreed! Slay him!"
The longsword in Spandam's hand transformed into a giant elephant. Its trunk remained blade-shaped, emitting a piercing cold glint, while two sharp, enormous tusks curved forward. It let out a sonorous roar.
"Ivory Assault!"
Facing the elephant sword hurtling towards him with ferocious, unstoppable force, Reiner advanced instead of retreating!
His legs bent slightly, then he pushed off hard. The ground shattered, sending rubble flying, as his figure shot forward like a projectile.
BANG!!
The sound of impact was dull and immense. Reiner met the giant elephant head-on, one hand gripping a sharp tusk tightly, the other forcefully clamping onto the massive blade's back.
His figure, before this giant elephant, seemed like a mantis trying to stop a chariot. Yet, the powerful, heavy impact came to an abrupt halt!
After the dull thud, the behemoth stood stock-still before Reiner, as if blocked not by a single person, but by an invisible, unshakable mountain.
"Want to kill me? This little toy is far too lacking!"
Reiner's face twisted into a savage grin. As veins bulged on his arms, the longsword formed from the elephant's trunk actually began to bend under his grip!
"How is this possible!? Your Doriki value!" Spandam stared dumbfounded. The next moment, an immense force sent his entire body flying into the sky.
"Ordinary Shoulder Throw!!"
Reiner sidestepped, twisting his body. With a sudden exertion of force, he directly flipped the giant elephant over his back!
BANG!!!
"Puwah—!"
Spandam, carried by the giant elephant, was slammed heavily onto the ground. His eyes rolled back white, his expression contorted in pain, as blood gushed uncontrollably from his mouth.
This logistics guy isn't right!!
Feeling the intense pain radiating throughout his body, this single thought flashed through Spandam's mind before he directly lost consciousness.
The ground shattered, thick cracks spreading outwards like long snakes, rapidly crawling towards the edges of the bridge.
RUMBLE!!
The Bridge of Hesitation, built of massive stones and several meters thick, actually began to collapse under this single blow!
"Are you alright, Robin?"
Reiner chuckled softly, walking over to Robin and helping her up from her kneeling position on the ground. "Leave the rest to us now."
Frieren filled the handcuffs with fine sand, then coated them with black Armament Haki.
Click!
The key turned, and the handcuffs clattered to the ground.
"Reiner!"
Robin pressed her lips together tightly and threw herself into his arms. "I'm sorry! For someone like me... I should have trusted everyone more!"
"What do you mean, 'someone like you'?"
Reiner spoke softly, "Nakama are nakama. If we weren't worthy of entrusting our lives to each other, we wouldn't be on the same ship."
"Thank you! I'm truly sorry!" Robin sobbed, burying her face in Reiner's shoulder. This feeling of inner stability, of not being suspended in emptiness, was something she hadn't experienced for many, many years.
"Alright now. The battle isn't over yet."
Reiner patted Robin's shoulder and chuckled lightly. "A thousand words can wait until everyone is safely away."
"Mm."
Robin lifted her hand, wiped away her tears, then turned, her expression worried. "Reiner... the Buster Call..."
"Relax."
Reiner looked towards the approaching warships, simultaneously glancing up at the flying sand still coalescing in the sky. Still a bit more needed.
"What do you think I came here for this time?" Reiner smirked. The Vice Admirals might not attack, but he would.
The Buster Call and Aokiji were two deep-seated traumas in Robin's heart. If he couldn't beat them, so be it. But if he could, then he might as well deal with them. This was one of the reasons for coming to Enies Lobby.
Although Momousagi's presence was somewhat unexpected, it didn't matter; he had already prepared a welcoming gift for them.
"When one is strong enough, you'll find that even a Buster Call is just a few slightly larger warships. Watch closely, Robin."
This sword... cough cough, never mind.
Reiner leaped onto the undead hawk, soaring straight into the clouds with Frieren.
Passing through the thick cloud layer, Reiner arrived high in the sky, the icy, fierce wind whipping his hair wildly.
He looked up at the two boundless spheres of brown sand hovering above his head, and couldn't help but feel a sense of awe).
Although condensing them took even longer than charging Hakoku, and they would also take longer to fall to the ground after release...
This price was exchanged for the power to smash the entirety of Enies Lobby to smithereens in a single blow!
In a direct confrontation, Reiner naturally couldn't use such a technique.
But give him time to prepare...
He could rely on the vast stamina from his awakened Devil Fruit and its extremely fast recovery rate to slowly condense an attack with truly heaven-destroying, earth-shattering power!
Unlike his usual flashy, light-polluting skills that didn't consume much effort, this time, Reiner was truly unleashing his ultimate, hidden trump card.
Just condensing these two meteorites had already drained more than half his stamina. They didn't contain berserk energy like Raigo, but their impact force and area of effect were far greater.
"Let's try a few small ones first."
With a thought from Reiner, ten smaller clumps of sand separated from the massive brown spheres and condensed.
Although they couldn't compare at all to the two enormous sand spheres hovering behind him, which had taken a vast amount of time to condense, these ten were already roughly the size of warships.
Reiner gazed downwards. With another thought, the ten comets plummeted rapidly, their speed increasing as time passed.
The airflow parted before them, continuously creating friction on their surfaces. By the time they passed through the cloud layer, their surfaces began to ignite, hurtling towards the fleet on the azure sea below at extreme speed.
"Hm?"
Aboard a warship, Gion, standing at the bow, her Justice cape flapping, suddenly felt a premonition, sensing danger approaching from high above.
Puzzled, she subconsciously looked up towards the sky and saw ten sand spheres, trailing long fiery tails, smashing down towards them from the heavens at incredible speed.
"Meteorites?"
Gion's brow furrowed tightly. Such a coincidence? Aimed directly at them?
And the quantity... exactly ten. No matter how you look at it, this is deliberate, man-made.
As Gion pondered, the other Vice Admirals also sensed something, all looking up towards the sky, then were stunned by the scene.
"Where did meteorites come from!?"
"Don't know! But they're clearly aimed at us!" The Vice Admirals' expressions turned grave.
They could dodge, but that didn't mean their warships and subordinates could. The numerous soldiers on deck, seeing the giant fireballs descending from the sky, were utterly panic-stricken.
"Looks like we have to block them head-on," Momonga, his twin handlebar mustaches twitching, was the first to leap up, simultaneously drawing the flower-guarded longsword from his waist.
"Geppo!" (Moon Step!)
With consecutive steps on the air, which cracked with 'papa' sounds, he arrived before a burning meteorite in the blink of an eye.
Momonga frowned, gripping his sword with both hands, one in a normal grip, one reversed, and swung it forcefully from left to right.
ZING—!
The longsword flashed with a piercing glint, a giant green slash streaking across the dim sky.
The rapidly descending giant meteorite was instantly sliced in two, falling towards the sea on either side of Momonga.
At the same time, the other Vice Admirals on their respective warships also leaped up to meet the meteorites, each unleashing powerful techniques to bombard them.
BOOM!! BOOM!! BOOM!! With a series of deafening explosions, several giant sand spheres were successively blasted apart, innumerable sand fragments scattering like a torrential downpour.
However, these meteorites, comparable in size to warships and even heavier, smashing down at such speed – even they couldn't intercept them all.
Several meteorites they failed to destroy in time, carrying immense wind pressure, swept past them, continuing downwards towards the warships below.
Just as the powerful impact was about to strike, Gion, who hadn't moved until now, placed her hand on her sword hilt, her eyes slightly closed, gathering power.
A soaring sword intent erupted centered on her. The air around her famed sword, Konpira, danced wildly, as if unable to restrain its urge to cut down everything.
The next moment, the sky-filling sword aura suddenly vanished, retracting into her blade. Heaven and earth seemed to fall silent.
"Iai: Sakura Fall!"
Gion's eyes snapped open. A giant pink slash appeared like a fleeting mirage between heaven and earth, sweeping across all the meteorites above her with the force of a destructive gale.
The next instant, all the sand spheres were sliced in two, disintegrating amidst the berserk wind pressure. The dissipating fragments of the slash, mixed with the sand, fell like scattering pink cherry blossoms.
"Goddess Gion has made her move!"
"A Great Swordsmaster is this terrifying!"
"Vice Admiral Gion, I love you!!"
On deck, countless soldiers' eyes turned into hearts as they expressed their adoration for Gion with love-struck faces.
The Vice Admirals landed back on deck, their gazes inevitably falling upon that pink figure.
"Ohoho! Frighteningly sharp."
Yamakaji let out a laugh. "Little Gion's swordsmanship has improved again. Truly worthy of being an Admiral Candidate."
"Don't flatter me with that."
Gion sheathed her sword with a faint smile. "It's only this much. Nothing to praise. Compared to Kuzan-chan, I'm still far off. However... who exactly is attacking us?"
As she spoke, the Vice Admirals couldn't help but look up towards the sky. They certainly didn't think it was a mere coincidence that ten meteorites fell here just as they arrived.
Moreover, these falling attacks were condensed from sand grains; clearly, someone was attacking from a location beyond their Observation Haki's perception.
"If the intel is correct..."
Momonga's brow furrowed. "The intruders on this island should only be the Straw Hat Pirates and a group of hoodlums called the Franky Family."
High above the cloud layer...
"As expected, attacks of that level don't pose much of a threat," Reiner smiled faintly, glancing towards the artificial magma meteorite beside him.
Frieren currently had her hand placed on one of the giant sand spheres, surging flames continuously pouring into it. Cracks snaked across its surface, revealing ferocious, brutal, scarlet-red firelight from within.
