When Aurora left, some people came forward and offered to help Sabrina, who declined humbly.
"I have to say, your attitude is muah!." Emma, a blonde with blue eyes said. There was adoration in her eyes.
Sabrina smiled, "I didn't do much."
"You did. Your action was cool. Did you see that look on her face? She didn't believe it!." Emma dramatically exclaimed as she laughed, followed by the others.
Sabrina smiled as she started typing.
.
.
It was nearly to eight, yet Sabrina was still in the department, furiously typing in her computer.
"Sabrina, I don't think you will be able to finish this. Why don't you apologise to Aurora tomorrow?."
She eyed Daisy with a fierce look, "Apologise? Do I look like one who can easily be bullied? I'd rather overwork than apologise."
Daisy sighed, "Sabrina, it won't be safe for you to go home alone, late."
She looked around the quiet room. It was only her and Sabrina left, and sooner or later, she would soon leave too.
"If you want to leave, you can leave. You don't have to worry about me." Sabrina gave her a relieved smile.
Daisy was not certain, "Are you sure?."
She nodded her head, "Yes I am."
"Okay," Daisy carried her bag and got up, "I'm leaving. See you tomorrow. Please be careful."
She left.
Sabrina rubbed her eyes to detach the sleep from them. She stretched as she checked the time. 7:52pm.
It was late.
All if a sudden, her phone stated ringing. It was Lexis. She picked the call with no hesitation.
"Lexis."
"Why aren't you outside yet?." Lexis questioned as he observed his surroundings through the window inside his car, parked a bit far from the company.
"Sorry. I forgot to tell you I'd be going home alone. By myself."
"Why?."
She flipped the files with a troubled look, "I have lots of things to do."
Lexis frowned, "Who gave you those works? You should step out. Let's go home."
"Lexis, don't worry, I'll get home by myself—."
"Sabrina?."
Sabrina was startled as she faced the direction her name was called.
Only to see Owen, standing by the door.
She quickly placed the phone down, "Owen," her face was full of surprise, "what are you still doing here? I thought you have gone?."
He moved towards her, "Yeah, I decided to wait behind and assist you. I heard what Aurora asked you to do."
Her face softened at his generosity, "You shouldn't have, but thank you."
"What are friends for?," he took some files and switched on his laptop which he brought and sat down.
Sabrina had forgotten that that Lexis was still active on the call, it was when he called her name did she remember.
Owen paused typing, "It seems like I heard Mr Woodsman's voice just now."
Sabrina waved her hand vigorously, "No, no, no. I don't think. Maybe you misheard something." She was nearly sweating as she secretly ended the call.
Owen shrugged, thought it was obvious for him to see the anxiousness all over her face.
He was sure that the person was Lexis, and he suspected that the person Sabrina was on cal with before he came in was Lexis, but he pushed the thoughts away.
Meanwhile…
Lexis' face was grim as he waited in the car. He tightened his hold on the phone, with a murderous fire burning inside his body.
Sabrina dared cut the call on him because of Owen. Because of a man!
The bastard eve addressed her as a friend, and he could feel; sense the smile laced in Sabrina's words as she thanked him.
He pictured her smiling at another man, and felt his mood drop. He leaned against the driver's seat, waiting patiently for Sabrina to step out of the company.
Few minutes had passed, yet there was no sign of her being out. He decided to phone her, but his call was rejected straight away . He threw the phone to the backseat, frustrated as he closed his eyes.
However, not up to twenty minutes, he looked out of his tinted window to sight Sabrina, walking so close to Owen, who said something that caused her to giggle.
He watched them silently; the way she'd smile and laugh easily at Owen's jokes, how she seemed so comfortable with him.
Sabrina was free around him, but not as free as she was no with Owen. A surge of jealousy shot through him. He wanted to open the door badly and walk up to them, and wrap his arm around Sabrina's waist and kiss her infront of Owen, to let him know that she was his wife; his possession.
He knew his gender well. Sooner or later, Owen would fall for her.
With how gentle his voice sounded on the phone earlier, it wasn't hard to tell he was slightly interested in Sabrina already.
Lexis clenched his hand on the steering wheel.
Bringing out a pack of cigarettes, he brought one out, lit it and started smoking, jealous boiling inside of him.
She could as well let the 'gentleman' and 'friend' take her home.
He started the engine and drove past them.
Sabrina stared at the moving car, dumbfounded. She paused. It was no doubt that car belonged to Lexis.
She thought he left. The way he drove past her; the fact that he didn't even acknowledge her showed that he was mad.
Angry.
And Sabrina was confused. She didn't know why.
"Why did you stop?." Owen noticed the way she came to a stop and how her countenance changed as well when that car passed, and he couldn't help but wonder who was in there.
And the car looked familiar too.
Sabrina shook her head, "Uhm, nothing. Do you mind just escorting me to the junction? You don't have to drain yourself walking me to my house."
"Okay."
They walked for a while before reaching the junction. She bid him good bye and flagged down a taxi.
As the car drove in silence, she thought about Lexis' indifferent character.
When she finally reached her destination, she stepped out and paid for the ride before knocking at the gate.
