Chapter 30 - Memory

She slipped them on and took a tentative step forward, only to be interrupted by a soft whimper behind her. Turning around, she found the hellhound standing at the edge of the bed, staring up at her with glowing eyes that somehow looked sad.

Sylva sighed. She couldn't believe what she was about to do.

Still, she bent down and scooped it into her arms, holding it against her chest like some oversized smoke-colored plush toy.

She walked slowly around the room, observing every detail. Two tall potted plants flanked a sheer-curtained floor-to-ceiling window. A lounge chair sat nearby. On the other end, she spotted a door and moved toward it.

Opening it revealed a bathroom that nearly made her stop breathing again.
