A hand suddenly reached out from the side and pulled her into an embrace.
Bonnie looked up in surprise, meeting Charlie's dark, stormy gaze. He scolded her in a low voice, "Why did you run out in this downpour?"
Her eyes reddened instantly. "Charlie, how's Derek?"
Charlie remained silent.
Tears welled up as Bonnie clutched his shirt, her voice trembling. "Did something happen to him?" Before he could answer, she began to sob. "What should I do, Charlie? What do I do?"
Still, Charlie said nothing.
After a long moment, he exhaled deeply, pulled her out of his arms, and gave her a complicated look. In her dazed state, he tilted his chin toward something behind her.
Bonnie turned around in confusion.
There, standing tall and completely unharmed in the rain, was Derek, elegant, striking, and staring back at her with a look of surprise.
Bonnie: ???
She stared blankly at Charlie.
