Chapter 14 - Division

Part1

Its been a few days since my father has left at this point. I asked mother how long it would take but she just told me "He will get home when he gets home". Its not a problem since Ive spent the time training on perfecting my spell. The days have been going by quickly and Ive noticed that mother and Elxie are becoming quite close, even laughing and joking together as they went through the day.

After five days on the fifth night when I returned from training I saw father being scolded by both mother and Elxie. Mother had his collar in her fist and Elxie had her hand on her hip as she slightly leaned over waving her finger at him.

"Hey father welcome home!" I say announcing my presence.

"Hey son I got back not long ago. How has your training been?" For a moment mother and Elxie took a break from scolding him.

"Very good. I'm sure now I can best you!"

"Well tomorrow will be your last chance. Their Headmaster wishes to see you as soon as possible so tomorrow we will be departing."

"Oh? How did the conversation go after he saw masters letter?" Suddenly mother hit father on his head.

"This idiot gave them our families name!" I gave her a look that screamed I had no idea what the problem was.

"Is that a bad thing?" Just then Elxie also hit him.

"Its terrible my Lord. Your family was exiled, and though this wouldn't be a bad thing with the main branch located near us, a school as prestigious as that one, hearing about an exiled family branch is a terrible thing. You could have went from an advantageous position to a disadvantageous position." I look at father with a disappointed gaze.

"Do you always screw up like this?" He just hangs his head in reply out of shame.

"Don't worry father, if anything it'll give me the chance to earn respect rather than being handed it." Father gave me a relieved smile though the two woman hit him again.

I let out a sigh and walk over to father to give him a hug. Next I gave mother a hug and a kiss on her cheek, then turn to Elxie to give her the same.

"I'm going back out to train. If you need something from me send Elxie."

Everyone bid me farewell as I left to continue my training to be as strong as possible for whenever I face father.

Part 2

>Rubyanna's pov<

"You fool! Why do you think it was a good idea to inform them of which branch of our family we are from!" A strong urge to hit Torren fills me again but I resist.

"I figured it would help our sons chance to gain even more benefits. It had slipped my mind at the time." Torren bowed his head.

"Thats not the main thing that worries me. Do you have any idea who goes to that school?" Torren looks up at me clearly lost at what is going on.

"Akari goes there; Akari Wolfang; my brothers daughter! If rumors spread, which I know they do since I went there as well, then the family might learn of our sons potential. They might see him as a threat! What then?!" Torren simply remained silent as the weight of his mistake begins to dawn on him.

"I'm sure if we send a letter of confidentiality then surly they'll respect it?" Elxie recommends.

(Ah my sweet friend I'm sure they already know.)

"At this point I'm sure the entire staff knows, most likely the student council as well. Our son might have a difficult life of schooling ahead of him. Not physically but politically for sure."

(Its too soon for the family to know what hes capable of.. What if they view him as a threat despite our being exiled? What if they try eliminating him to prevent the possibility of us rising to the throne...) Suddenly Torren gives my hand a reassuring squeeze calming and slowing my heart.

"He will be fine my love. Hes stronger and smarter than any of us here. Soon he will even be wiser as well. I'm sure he will be fine."

(I guess he could be fine.. He doesn't seem to be arrogant? Maybe I should teach him how to properly act around nobles?)

"Perhaps we should teach my Lord proper etiquette so he's at least able to properly conduct himself around the main branch?" Said Elxie as she placed down some tea.

"I was just thinking the same thing."

"When will he have time? He leaves tomorrow and the kids probably going to be busy training or fighting with me to learn anything." I huff as I sit down and sip on my tea.

"Guess we might have missed our chance." Everyone sipped on their tea as they sat in silence realizing they might have raised a brute.

Part 3

>Samu pov<

I wake up in the backyard still damp from the training I did the night before. I stand and try to stretch out the pain I feel throughout every muscle fiber and tendon in my body due to practicing my new spell. I can feel my body creek as I move around and attempt to wake up by getting my blood flowing.

"Father come out here! We need to make this quick so I can let Eyara know we are leaving!" I yell out.

Soon my father comes out fully armored up in his leather and plate adventurers gear along with his sword.

"I was waiting on you kid. Are you ready to lose?"

"Heh as if!-" Suddenly the world starts to spin and I struggle to not stumble as I walk catching myself on my knees.

"You over did it last night. I would have warned you but its a lesson best learned the hard way."

"This will still be my win father." I stand and take my wide stance as I stay light on my toes for faster pivoting.

"I wont be holding back son." He unsheathes his sword as mother and Elxie step outside to watch.

"Oh good mother is here. She can heal you when I'm done."

"Talk is cheap." Suddenly father is above me ready to swing his sword.

Death.

I step to the side to avoid it but I'm met with a body kick sending me flying several feet. Before I can even gasp for air a dagger is sent flying my way. I use Stone Wall to block then surround myself as well to give myself time to fill my body with mana. I only had enough time to fill my legs until Torren shattered my defensive barrier aiming his next attack at my neck. With nowhere to go thanks to boxing myself in I use Stone Wall to coat my arms in stone making it denser than iron allowing me to block his strike. Although it didn't penetrate, without my mana flowing in my arms he knocks my arm away effortlessly leaving me exposed. Out of muscle memory I use my off hand to blow him back with Hurricane Beam managing to tear away some of his leather armor.

I seize the chance to finally fill the rest of my body and bones releasing my suppressants to further allow me to access more mana and focus solely on attacking. Now fully charged I use earth magic to coating my arms, legs, and torso with stone armor making it as dense as I could. I dash at father with all my might. Father matches my speed as slashes across my body unable to pierce it clicking his tongue in dissatisfaction. I spin around and throw a spinning heel kick to his chin but he blocks it with a short sword in his off hand. I continue my barrage increasing in speed and power as time goes one eventually mixing fire magic with my strikes releasing explosions on contact each time he blocks.

(damn hes blocking everything and is somehow matching me in pacing even though I'm speeding up.)

I jump back and cast two Stone Walls and slam them into Torren but he dashed towards me to avoid them. I launch a volley of Stone Bullets but with him duel wielding a sword and a short sword hes now able to slice through it all. I bring my hands together and launch a duel casted Blaze Cannon and Hurricane Beam hurling a constant channel of a dense flamethrower like spell. I maintain the spell with one hand and use my off hand to create a massive Stone Wall behind where he clashed with my spell and bring it down on him. The crash created a large dust cloud and though I had no sight of him I refused to relent.

I leaped a dozen meters above the dust cloud and charged up my best spell, Brilliant Flame, my first master rank spell. The size is immense, several meters in diameter. I compress it down into my fist as I use wind magic to hurl myself into the ground as I slam my fist into it. Massive rifts formed in the earth branching out in all directions as fire spewed out of them for a moment until the dust settled and I was left standing there completely drained barely able to stand. I look around and can only find his armor on the ground barely even intact. I let out a sigh but before I could celebrate I heard a voice followed by a cold chill.

"Did you plan to kill me this time?"

I turn around to see father walking towards me from a hole in the ground a ways away.

"Y-You can use magic?..."

"Only two spells." He continues walking towards me the tip of his sword dragging in the ground.

I try raising my hand to cast Water Bullet but even that wont cast.

(Damn I'm spent...)

"Father.."

"Yes son?"

"You're quite skilled."

In an instant he was behind me knocking me unconscious by striking the back of my head.

Part 4

I awake in a carriage still in pain and still tapped on mana as I struggle to sit up and see my father sitting next to mother and Elxie sitting next to me.

"Good morning my Lord. Was my lap alright?" I hold my hand up to inform her I needed a moment.

"Damn mom you could have healed me more."

"Cant. Your father said the pain after a loss is the most important part." I rub my neck in pain before laying back down on Elxie.

"If father says so then I wont heal myself." I nestle into Elxie's lap.

(Wow this is comfortable. I should have done this sooner.) Suddenly I realize we left Eyara behind.

"What about-"

"She isn't coming. You will need to develop a good reputation at the school before your recommendation means anything." Father says his arms crossed as he gives the rare feeling of being a father.

"I see.." Elxie gently guides my head back into her lap.

"Don't worry my Lord. I'm sure she will be able to join you soon enough." She began caressing my hair soothing me almost helping me to fall asleep.

"How long was I out?" I say as I start drifting to sleep.

"Two days. We should be arriving in half a days ti-" With that I fall into deep sleep.

Suddenly I find myself in a wide white plane with the floor being made up of clouds, and the sky fast and the horizon endless. I stand and walk around calling out into the void. I searched aimlessly shouting as I went until eventually a figure made of light appeared floating from above, its shape only seen from the shimmers emitting from around its body.

"Hello young man, and who might you be?" The voice boomed inside my head.

"Typically its polite to introduce yourself first."

(Its best not to let a mysterious figure like this know who I am)

"My name is ◬◈◭◉◈◈◬, whats your name?"

(Huh?)

"I might of misheard you? What was that?" The entity just sighed.

"It seems as though you aren't from this world. Who or what exactly are you."

"What makes you think I'm from somewhere else?"

(What the hell is going on...I don't like this)

"Only people of this world know our names. There are a few other strong tells but for now I know enough." At this point I raise my fist ready for anything.

"Theres no need for that. I've come here out of curiosity after seeing your fight with Torren. That was quite something for a child. Though you look nothing like one." I look down to see I was in my old body before I died.

"What are you?" I asked.

"I am the God of Man" Before I could question him further he continued.

"I have come to give you advice since you've gained my interest. That and I want to watch over you more"

"Advice from a God? Why not. What is it you seek from me?"

"Just this. When you send her referral don't seek her out. Focus only on the other. For your life is about to reach a crossroad and this path will give me the most entertainment." Before I could protest I begin falling suddenly before waking up to Elxie gently nudging me.

"Wake up my Lord. We are here." I sit up to see mother and father already waiting outside the carriage.

"Thank you for the help with resting, I needed that." I stand up and make my way outside into the night sky. I look around to see a classic sprawling medieval fantasy city. Though it was currently too dark to see very much.

Once I faced the school I was slightly taken aback at how grand it was. As mother led father, Elxie, and I to the gate a well dressed butler greeted us with a bow and opened the gate. Once we were inside we were greeted by another even more elegantly dressed butler, who again bowed and led us up to this massive building. As I looked up I counted eight floors in total from where I was standing as I walked up the marble steps. As I walked inside I saw the all white marble interior with its many columns and winding stairs lining the halls our steps echoing throughout its halls as we walked. The building was lit with grand chandeliers that shimmered a bright white revealing the numerous paintings and statues. As the butler guided us further up the floors the paintings along the walls became more and more grand and detailed as we drew closer to the Head Masters office. Every once and a while a standing stationary suit of armor could be seen as well as statues.

Eventually we reached the Head Masters door. The butler entered and announced our entry.

"The Wolfang family has arrived."

"Good send them in." Commanded a deep and commanding voice.

We enter together and I met the gaze of a bald man with a large bushy mustache reaching out several inches like an elf's ears. I place my right hand over my heart and bow as graciously as I could.

"Good evening, My name is Samu Wolfang. It brings me great joy to have finally arrived here in this magnificent academy." I keep my head bowed as I wait for his reply.

"Trust me if what Ms.Hikari wrote was true then the pleasure is all ours." The man stood up and greeted my mother and father who both showed far less decorum than I.

"Again its a pleasure to see you two. Please sit." I sit on the couch in-between mother and father with Elxie standing just behind us.

"Its late so I'll get strait to the point. We want to test your sons abilities before deciding which class he will be in."

"Thats only fair. Will this test be before or after we leave." Mother seemed to be ready to do all the talking.

"After, we will let the young lad sleep and get a good nights rest before testing what he's capable of."

"I'm eager and ready to begin now if at all possible." I met his gaze and sat up confidently.

"Don't be hasty sonny, the only students available now are the student council. You wouldn't want to fail." He gave me a stern look as if I misspoke.

"Well now it has to happen. I don't take others looking down on me lightly." Father tries whispering in my ear but I raise my hand to stop him.

"Just be sure to bring your best healers and fighters.. I wouldn't want to kill anyone." I glare at the man after being angered at the idea someone here could make me fail.

"Oh? Then ill alert them immediately." He claps his hands together and yells out to the servants of the school.

"Go alert the student body council to meet me at the advanced training room." I stand eagerly ready for anything.

"Are you sure you're recovered from your fight with Torren?" Mother asked as she and father stand together.

"Even a sliver of my power would be enough." I say as I follow the servants since they'd bring me directly to my opponents.

The Headmaster and my family followed closely behind me as we made our way through the large school until we reached the training ground where the council appeared to be hanging out at.

"Attention everyone, this here is-" I cut off the Headmaster shouting over him.

"My name is Samu Wolfang. I challenge all of you to a fight!" Three people stopped what they were doing and turned to look at me.

The first one to walk over was the tallest of the three. He had silver hair and purple eyes with two small horns sprouting from his forehead. He walked over to me with confidence. Following close behind was a Beastfolk girl with short light brown hair and what seemed to be wolf attributes. Her eyes shimmered a light brown in the light, though she was a bit taller than me she was still shorter than the Demon she walked behind. Last was a blonde kid with ocean blue eyes. He only glanced into my direction for a moment before sighing as he closed his book and followed the others. Once the three arrived they turned and bowed to the Headmaster.

"Headmaster its a pleasure to see you at this time. To what do I owe the pleasure?" Asked the Demon his head still lowered.

"Ah yes Gilnis my young lad, this boy is a new student here to test his aptitude." The boy raised his head slightly and eyed me up and down.

"If that is what you request of me then then it shall be done." He and the others sat up and glared at me.

"Tell me old man, what are the rules of this engagement." The Headmaster laughed.

"You simply give it everything you have. Depending on how you perform will dictate what class you'll be placed in." I look over to him making sure to look him in his eyes.

"What if they die?" His brow lowered a bit as he held my gaze.

"This room is covered in healing runes. Any damage sustained will be healed. If death occurs you wont be held accountable and the family wont be notified of the details other than their defeat." An incontrollable wide smile forms on my face.

(Then I'll hold back only a little depending on how they act.)

"I challenge all of you." The blonde boy scoffs.

"A peasant like you thinks you can manage that? We are nobility, the elite of the elite. If you think- Hurgh!-" I kick the boy launching him back several meters.

"Are you calling my family peasants?" I glare at the other two.

"Well don't worry about a one on one fight. Come at me whenever."

The Demon wasted no time and began chanting a fire spell as the Beastfolk charged at me attempting to engage in hand to hand combat. I use Eyara's trick utilizing earth and water magic to sink the Demon neck deep into mud while avoiding the girls attacks. Once the Demon was locked down I headbutt the girl in her chin then palm into her lungs blasting her with Hurricane Beam sending her crashing into the blonde boy who had just recovered hurling them both around tumbling on the floor. I let out a laugh at how easy the fight was, not even needing to use my personal spell.

"This is it? That wasn't even two percent of what I can do! Yet you guys dare to look down on me?!" The Demon whispers something to himself before sinking further into the ground disappearing completely.

Without warning a barrage of Rock Bullet's began firing at me from the ground around me. I surround myself with Earth wall while I filled my hand with mana.

"Now!" Yelled out the Demon. I lower the wall in front of me to see the three of them chanting together as they channeled their mana.

The blonde was casting Water Bullet, the girl Fire Bullet, and the Demon Earth Bullet. I scoff at the attempt as I turn to the Headmaster.

"I hope you have a protective barrier or something because this.." I use Fire Bullet increasing its mana density while compressing it in my right hand while using my left hand to fuel it compressed air with Gale Stream turning the flame into a deep blue, the flame releasing a high pitch hiss.

"This might cause some damage." The Headmasters eyes widen in shock as he yells out.

"Sentinels! Put up a defensive barrier at once! Protect the school and the kids!" Suddenly men and women shrouded in white robes appeared casting a variety of master rank defensive barriers around the room.

The three kids didn't falter however and launched their spells. Soon after several stone walls cloaked in dragon wings began forming in front of them in five layers.

"Drop dead!" I yell out as I fire my spell. The sound of its high pitch whistle was the only thing heard as it effortlessly past through the kids spells clashing into the defensive walls with a deep bang.

One by one the walls failed with each impact creating shockwaves, the others in the room needing to brace to withstand. Finally my spell was stopped on the second to last wall as I let out a disappointed sigh.

"Damn thats it? I guess thats to be expected with a beginner spell combination."

Next thing I hear is the sound of adoration and applause as the Headmaster approached me.

"Good! Very good! You not only use chantless magic, but are also able to combine spells! Exquisite! We would be honored to accept you into our most advanced class!" I look over to see mother, father, and Elxie smiling at me before turning to make their leave.

"Come we must show you to your dorm!" I follow the Headmaster out of the training room looking back to see the three kids staring on in awe.
