"Huff… Huff…"
The first turn went to the Dragon-type warrior.
As one of the appointed guardians of the Mountain, the dragon warrior cut a dignified figure—orange-golden scales, broad wings, and a self-assured smirk—
Wait a sec.
Hikaru Amagi squinted and glanced to the side. A tiny version of the dragon, a familiar-looking little crawler scaling Thunder Emperor Dragon's massive body… That was Baby Dragon. A fan favorite in certain "shouty" duels.
That explains the familiarity.
So this was "Hundred-Year Dragon"—the adult form of Baby Dragon.
Clutching a tiny card in its massive claw, the dragon muttered to itself, "Never battled a human warrior before…"
It wasn't sure how strong its opponent really was.
Should it play it safe? Or go aggressive?
"Screw it—! I activate the Spell Card Foolish Burial!"
It extended one claw. "This card lets me send a monster from my Deck to the Graveyard."
"I'll send Eclipse Wyvern to the Grave."
Hikaru stiffened.
Seriously? A Forbidden Card?!
Even after everything he'd seen in this world, Hikaru's eyes still widened when he saw that card.
Because that one… was seriously Forbidden.
"When Eclipse Wyvern is sent to the Graveyard, I can banish 1 Level 7 or higher LIGHT or DARK Dragon from my Deck. I banish Arkbrave Dragon."
"Then I banish Eclipse Wyvern to Special Summon—Collapse Serpent!"
A swirling black sphere materialized before the dragon, warping space around it. From the center of that distortion emerged the shadowy form of a dragon.
Collapse Serpent – Level 4, DARK, Dragon-Type, ATK 1800.
"Simultaneously, Eclipse Wyvern's second effect activates. When it's banished, I add the monster it banished—Arkbrave Dragon—to my hand."
"Set one card. Turn end."
After finishing, Hundred-Year Dragon let out a long breath like it was finally relaxed.
"Do your best, big bros!!"
"Good luck~~!"
A whole bunch of little dragons gathered around, cheering loudly for Hikaru and Fubuki. Whether they were just enjoying the show or genuinely cheering, it was hard to tell.
Seeing the tiny crowd of eggs and hatchlings, Fubuki Tenjoin raised his hand dramatically.
"What am I pointing at!?"
"Huh?" One baby dragon blinked. "The sky?"
"Tenjoin!" Fubuki snapped his fingers. "Fubuki!"
"Whoa! Cool name—!"
"That's funny!"
The naive little dragonlings instantly latched onto his flair.
"My turn!" Fubuki drew a card, then casually asked, "Hey, Hikaru, anything I should watch out for with that dragon?"
"Collapse Serpent? If it's sent from the field to the Graveyard, its twin—Wyverburster—gets added to hand."
"Whoa! That's right!"
"You know a lot, big bro!"
"This one's kinda slow though."
"Hey, you brats, stop helping them!" Hundred-Year Dragon grumbled.
"You're amazing, Hikaru!" Fubuki flashed a dazzling smile. "I knew I could count on you!"
"Well then, I'll leave it on the field for now. I summon—Red-Eyes B. Chick!"
A glowing red dragon egg appeared, then cracked open to reveal a cute baby dragon.
Red-Eyes B. Chick – Level 1, DARK, Dragon-Type, ATK 800.
"Whoa, that's me! That's me!" one of the little dragons cried out, scrambling in place with excitement.
"So cool… I wanna be summoned too…" another murmured enviously.
"I tribute Red-Eyes B. Chick to Special Summon—Red-Eyes B. Dragon!"
The tiny chick vanished in a flash, replaced by the massive black dragon, wings spread wide and eyes glowing with fire.
Red-Eyes B. Dragon – Level 7, DARK, Dragon-Type, ATK 2400.
"Whoa! Amazing!" one of the baby dragons stared with sparkling eyes. "Will I grow up to be that cool?"
"Of course you will," Fubuki said kindly. "Just keep growing and one day, you'll become everything you dream of!"
Then he raised his arm again, grinning. "Next up—my finisher!
I activate the Spell Card—Inferno Fire Blast!"
"This card prevents Red-Eyes B. Dragon from attacking this turn, but it lets me deal damage equal to its original ATK!"
"Ehhhhh?!"
"So unfair!!" one of the hatchlings cried.
The two battle-hardened guardians didn't seem to mind—effect damage was fair game—but the poor Red-Eyes B. Chick was sobbing, eyes brimming with tears.
"Waaahhhhhh—!" it howled, forcing a few older dragons to rush over and calm it down.
But it was too late—Red-Eyes B. Dragon reared back, then launched a blazing fireball straight at the enemy field.
Mountain Guardians' LP: 8000 → 5600.
Classic Red-Eyes burn damage.
But to a sheltered chick dreaming of glorious duels, it was a bit of a rude awakening.
"Uh oh…" Fubuki blinked. "Did I make a kid cry?"
He looked down at his hand. Attack? Don't attack? What do I do now?
"Hikaru! Help! Save me!!"
Sigh…
Hikaru exhaled.
"Senpai, just keep dueling."
"You didn't even call me 'senpai'! You totally don't respect me, right?!"
"Enough," Thunder Emperor Dragon's voice boomed again, cutting through the tension. "Let them witness a true Duel Rite. Not just your playful scuffles. This, too, is part of their growth."
"Continue your turn."
Ugh…
Fubuki scratched his head awkwardly.
"Alright, then… I set two cards face-down and end my turn."
Now it was the Beast-Winged Guardian's turn.
Compared to the dragon warrior, whose identity was a little ambiguous, this one was unmistakable.
A giant peacock—but not an ordinary one. Its plumage, when fanned, revealed not eyes, but serpents.
This was Nine-Serpent Peacock.
A rare card, without question…
