Chapter 69 - CHAPTER 77

As Dr. Stern explained, Banner realized the Hudson Group had invested significant time, effort, and resources into their research, achieving notable breakthroughs.

Abandoning the project wasn't feasible, especially considering the potential consequences of leaving such powerful technology unregulated.

Perhaps, once cured, he could stay and assist, as Dr. Stern suggested. This could mitigate further complications and allow him to make amends for past mistakes.

However, Banner wondered if Mr. Carl would be willing to accommodate him, given the ongoing issue with General Ross.

Harboring him would mean defying an admiral, and the repercussions could be severe. Banner's anxiety grew as he thought about the potential risks.

As Banner felt apprehensive, the group arrived at the Hudson Group's production base laboratory outside New York.

It was nearly nine, and the factory workers had already left for the day. Outside the lab, Carl gazed at Banner, restrained to a bed with specialized steel rings, and thought, "This bed, crafted from the strongest alloy material courtesy of Tony, should withstand your... enhancements." For safety reasons, Carl had commissioned Tony for the best alloy material and had the metal bed custom-made to help Banner receive the antidote. The bed had been tested; even with his enhanced physical abilities, Banner wouldn't be able to break free unless he utilized extraordinary measures.

"Let's begin!" In the lab, Dr. Stern activated the machine, slowly injecting the antidote into Banner's system. The Hulk gene in Banner's body stirred, his pupils turned green, and his muscles began to swell rapidly. "Hulk!" With a roar, the alloy bed started to deform, as if it might shatter at any moment. Betty jumped onto Hulk's belly, embracing his massive head and soothing him softly. The enraged Hulk's eyes softened upon seeing Betty, and his aggressive demeanor subsided. Seizing the opportunity, Dr. Stern administered the second-stage antidote. As the green gene receded, the powerful Hulk transformed back into Banner.

"This strength is incredible!" Carl gazed at the mangled metal bed, his eyes burning with fascination. He had anticipated that the high-strength alloy might not be enough to contain the Hulk's power. Perhaps only Wakanda's vibranium could truly restrain him. The world of Marvel was filled with formidable beings; if he didn't accelerate his growth, he'd be vulnerable to threats both human and superhuman.

"Dr. Banner, how are you feeling? Are you back to normal?" Carl entered the lab, concern etched on his face. Banner released Betty's hand, taking a deep breath: "The antidote seems to have worked. I no longer sense his presence."

"Not quite," Dr. Stern interjected. "We need to collect your blood samples to confirm the absence of the green gene. The gene is tenacious; it's unlikely to be eliminated so easily. This involves gamma pulses and a complex process that requires careful monitoring."

Hearing this, Banner hesitated, and Carl offered, "Why don't you and Dr. Betty stay here until we're certain everything has returned to normal? We can provide accommodations and ensure your safety." Banner considered Carl's words, weighing the risks. With General Ross pursuing him, exposure could jeopardize Carl and Dr. Stern. However, Carl reassured him, "Don't worry about General Ross; I have connections that will help protect us. I'll do everything in my power to ensure your safety."

Banner nodded, considering Carl's proposal. With the research data on super-soldier serum and Hulk mutation, Carl might succeed in creating a Power Pill to cure terminal illnesses. The potential benefits outweighed the risks, and Banner agreed to stay.

As the group began their work, Carl's team prepared a safe and comfortable living arrangement for Banner and Betty. The lab's atmosphere was tense, but the shared goal of finding a solution kept everyone focused. The journey ahead would be challenging, but with Carl's determination and expertise, they might just find a way to harness the power of the Hulk gene for good.

The most important thing was that from what Dr. Stern had said, Banner knew the Hudson Group had already invested a huge amount of money in their research and had made some breakthroughs.

It was impossible for them to give it up just because of his opposition.

Maybe, once he was cured, he should stay and help, as Dr. Stern suggested. At least this could help avoid more serious problems in the future.

He just wasn't sure whether Mr. Carl would be willing to take him in. After all, this meant openly going against General Ross.

With these worries on his mind, Banner remained nervous and unsure as everyone arrived at the Hudson Group's production base outside New York.

It was nearly nine o'clock in the evening and all the factory workers had already gone off duty.

Outside the laboratory, Carl looked at Banner, who was secured to the bed by a special steel frame, and thought to himself:

"This is a bed made from the strongest alloy I could get from Tony. I wonder if it can hold you."

For safety, Carl had gotten in touch with Tony much earlier and constructed this specialized metal bed, designed to help Banner inject the antidote safely.

He'd tried it previously. If someone were bound to it, they shouldn't be able to break free, even if they were proficient in physical combat and chakra — unless they were able to perform powerful ninjutsu.

"Here we go!"

In the laboratory, once Banner was completely secured, Stern turned on the machine and slowly injected the antidote into Banner's body.

As the antidote flowed in, the Hulk's genes were instantly awakened. Banner's pupils turned green, and his muscles rapidly expanded.

"Hulk!"

With a roar, the strong alloy frame securing him began to warp and deform under the pressure, as if it were about to break at any moment.

Betty, who was standing nearby, rushed forward and pressed herself against Hulk's massive torso, then turned and gently held his face, speaking softly to calm him.

When the raging Hulk saw Betty, his aggression fell away instantly and his expression grew gentle.

Taking advantage of this moment, Stern immediately injected the second-stage antidote.

As it flowed into his body, the green coloring slowly receded, and the powerful Hulk transformed back into Banner.

"This strength is really… extraordinary!"

Carl remained outside the glass, staring at the deformed metal bed with a piercing gaze.

He already suspected that the high-strength alloy provided by Tony might not be enough to hold the Hulk. After all, the Hulk had dismantled the anti-Hulk armor with his bare hands in the past.

Perhaps only Wakanda's vibranium could hope to match the Hulk's power — and even then, it was a big "maybe."

Thinking back, Thanos — a being strong enough to overwhelm the Hulk effortlessly — Odin, the Ancient One, and the multiversal demons were all creatures far more powerful.

If he remained weak, it would be hard for him to keep up in a world filled with such power.

"Dr. Banner, how are you feeling now? Are you back to normal?"

Carl opened the laboratory door and walked in, speaking with concern.

Banner let go of Betty, who was holding him:

"The antidote must have been successful. I can't sense him anymore."

"No, no, we need to be careful. To be sure it's gone, we need some time to test your blood. The green gene might just be temporarily suppressed. It's a tenacious trait — not easily eliminated. That's due to gamma pulse effects."

Stern rushed forward to explain.

"It means the problem isn't entirely gone. How about this — Dr. Banner and Dr. Betty, you're friends of Dr. Stern, so you can stay here for now. We can reassess once we're sure everything is back to normal."

Carl nodded and smiled warmly.

Of course, this was just a temporary fix. The Hulk's genes were strong — in the future, Banner would merge with the Hulk to become a hybrid form under his own control.

Emotional fluctuations would no longer affect him. But if his life were in danger, the Hulk might emerge once again.

"Dr. Stern and Mr. Carl, we've already caused a lot of trouble. If we stay here, I'm afraid..."

Banner paused, unsure whether it was a good idea to stay.

General Ross was a powerful figure. If their location were exposed, it could bring trouble to both Carl and Stern.

Carl raised his hand casually:

"General Ross? Don't worry. I have some connections. At the very least, he shouldn't be able to openly come after me. I'll do everything I can to keep you safe."

He paused briefly, then continued, "Furthermore, the research data you handed over to Dr. Stern will be a huge help in developing new drugs.

If you're willing, it would be great if you could stay and advise us on this. Your expertise could make a huge difference."

When the antidote first failed and Banner turned into the Hulk, he rushed away. Betty secretly downloaded all the research data and handed it to Banner when she met him in New York.

Later, Banner passed it on to Stern.

This information — the military's research into the Super Soldier Serum and the Hulk's mutations — was extremely valuable to Carl, who was trying to extract a new medication from the two.

"That's fine."

Banner turned his head and exchanged a look with Betty. She nodded quietly in approval, and Banner made his decision.

He believed staying might help him avoid Ross's pursuit. Furthermore, his greatest fear was the danger his own genes posed; developing a new medication safely was his responsibility.

"Alright. I'll have someone arrange a place for you to stay. If you need anything, you can contact me directly."

Carl nodded, a small smile creeping across his face.

Stern, Ethan, Banner, Betty — plus Smith and Lister from Sokovia — were a formidable team. Combine their expertise with the military and SHIELD's research into the Super Soldier Serum, and the data from the Hulk's transformation, and developing a stable drug might be doable.

Creating something that could treat terminal illnesses seemed well within reach.
