Chapter 10 - LIVING ANGEL

LIVING ANGEL

Caroline Havens: At work

When I was a child, I was told that I'm a living angel. The reincarnation of Affratia. I was treated like her. Priests came to me for their aids. They said I inherited the soul of 'QUINCOURT'.

[3rd FLOOR OF REVERIE]

[He's nearly done.]

[He'll be that just in some years]

[CASTLE OF PHINIXIA]

Children around my age didn't like to play with me. My beauty was maintained as if I was the foundation of this castle. I only yearned for love.

They said I can't marry or I'll impure this bloodline. The only way to create an heir was through artificial womb through my...

But now, he was in front of me. I can never leave him alone. He looks exactly like the person of my dreams I used to draw portraits of. I'll break the chains imposed on me.

But I will not force it. I want to experience love as it really is.

He looked anxious and scared. I don't want to harm him in any way. But I must stay strong, this world isn't for the likes of him to roam alone.

"Are you nervous?" I wonder what he will say.

"Yes, a little bit." The woman who was aiding him, I'm grateful to her. But now I don't want this love to be forced by any means.

I plucked out a paper. Just a delicate soft paper with no richness in it except for love.

"Call me whenever you want. I'll be there for you." I handed him the paper and let him go.

He looked back, he really did.

Where are they? I've seen her take him behind the stage—there must be a way.

I was slowly running, holding my dress high. Then I saw Nickel come out. I was so scared for him. Finally, the first day of Caroline's work was over. It was past 12.

Nickel walked near me and—

PUNCH!

I punched him in his guts, he let out a big moan.

"Master wh-h-hy?"

"Next time make a better earpiece and make them camouflage-able."

"Oof—sorry. It's not like—" I instinctively held his head, checking if she did anything to him? Just in a day, he's now like a child to me.

"Hey, I'm fine. She just gave me her number."

"Number?" Number? This much drama for a number? I can't believe him.

"Are you really sure? Did she say something to you? Like threaten? Or are you lying?" Can Nickel lie to me? Now I look at it... it's not impossible. I'm just a nobody—they picked me from the office, and he's a literal rich boss about to marry a lineage of someone with high status.

"No, what are you talking about? Why would I lie to you?" He's not wrong, but I can't bring myself to believe him.

Then something clicked in my mind.

"Hey, give me that number!" He took out a paper. They seemed like very normal numbers to me. But I had to, so I tore the page apart in several pieces.

"What? What are you doing?"

"She's a NO. Now if I'm your master, just follow me!" I don't know why, but I feel like she'll take him away from us. I'd rather have him with a simple girl than have to lose him.

"But tearing the paper was useless because I..."

I stopped and glared at him.

"I... what??"

"I actually memorized her number."

"Just don't call her by any means, ok?"

"Roger!" He's still joking? Maybe I envy his happiness. I took him back and walked out as some reporters seemed to have a hint of his identity, but before they exploded, La Mes took their attention and began promoting her novel and gave us the sign to leave.

"Where were you guys?" We took Cupra with us.

"Are we leaving?" Cass was just around so it didn't cause much problem.

But the real deal was Gehrmensch. There were some people who seemed to recognize him, and they were talking together. Now I feel dumb, suddenly telling everyone to leave without any explanation? I looked at their faces. They seemed confused but didn't question me. Why?

As Gehrmensch saw us, he immediately came near us, leaving those people. Will he scold me? I deserve that. Now shut up, Caroline, and face it.

I just grew too fond of them this early that I forgot they have their lives. Who am I to lead them?

"Are we leaving?" That was Gehrmensch's first question.

"Looks like that!" Cupra stretched his arm. He didn't seem frustrated or angry in any way.

"Then let's get us moving. Even I got some important work at home. Also, thanks, Caroline!"

Thanks me? Why?

"Ah yes, also. Thank you for wearing my dress, Miss Caroline. It means a lot."

I just wore it because I had no other option.

"I was only confident because of you, master!" Nickel?

"I guess that's it for today. You must be worn out now. Take a rest, master!" I think I should quit thinking in spirals and live in the moment.

I moved with a smile. I just had one regret. I couldn't high-five La Mes before leaving as we promised.
