Chapter 78 - Stop right there

As Freddie continued observing from the second floor, his suspicions heightened when he saw the mysterious man pointing something at Mr. Lane. The atmosphere seemed charged with tension, and Lane's obvious nervousness only fueled Freddie's concerns.

Reacting swiftly, Freddie reached for a small device and clicked a button, initiating a covert communication channel with Adam, who was still posing as a sweeper.

"Adam, can you hear me?" Freddie murmured discreetly.

Adam, aware and ready for any instructions, touched his ears and stopped sweeping.

"Yes, what happened?"

"We need to know about the man who donated money to this school," Freddie said urgently.

"I saw him walking with Mr. Lane," Adam replied.

"Yes, I am seeing them from the second floor. Can you go and see what they are doing?"

Freddie instructed; his voice low and filled with a sense of urgency.

"Okay!"

Adam responded, swiftly moving towards the location where Freddie had spotted Lane and the mysterious man.

Meanwhile, back in the vicinity of the exchange, Liam turned back to Lane, issuing a directive that resonated with a sense of urgency, "You should go and clear everything right now."

"Yes, I am going to the principal's room," Lane responded, his guard still up as he navigated through the school halls.

Liam, not one to wait, proceeded on his way, but an unexpected encounter awaited him. As he walked briskly, Liam unintentionally collided with Adam, who was diligently sweeping the floor in his sweeper uniform. Adam, quick to react, lowered his cap and apologized to Liam.

"I am sorry, sir. I didn't notice you were coming," Adam said, maintaining a respectful demeanor.

Liam, understanding the accidental collision, waved it off, "It's okay."

With a nod, Liam continued on his way, leaving Adam to resume his sweeping duties.

Lane, who had witnessed the interaction, approached Adam.

"Be careful, dude," he warned, his tone carrying a hint of concern.

"I am sorry, sir," Adam responded politely, his eyes reflecting sincerity.

Curiosity flickered in Lane's eyes as he inquired, "By the way, why are you guys here? Are you new? I didn't see you before."

Adam, ever the quick thinker, flashed a broad smile and replied confidently, "Actually, the principal hired me for today."

Lane, accepting the explanation, nodded in understanding.

"So, is your work done?" Lane inquired, his tone carrying a sense of urgency.

"Yes!"

Adam responded, confirming the completion of his assigned task. However, Adam's curiosity lingered, and he seized the opportunity to gather more information about the mysterious man who had just donated a significant sum to the school.

"But that man, does he donate money?"

Adam questioned, attempting to extract more details from Lane.

Lane, narrowing his eyes in response, detected Adam's eagerness to learn more. Sensing the delicate nature of the situation, Adam tried a different approach, framing his inquiry in a way that would not arouse suspicion.

"Actually, the principal was saying a generous man would come and help the school," Adam continued, feigning excitement.

"It's so good that a man like him still exists in the world."

Adam, strategically sweeping the floor before Lane, attempted to mask his true intentions. However, Lane's irritation was evident from the arched brows and stern expression on his face. Clearly uncomfortable discussing the matter, Lane chose not to respond and walked away, leaving Adam to ponder the mysteries that surrounded the generous benefactor.

As Lane retreated from the conversation, Adam couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story than Lane was willing to divulge.

Adam, still disguised as a sweeper, stopped sweeping and observed as Lane walked toward the principal's room. A sense of suspicion lingered in Adam's mind, prompting him to reach for the communication device and speak in a hushed tone, "Bro, I don't know about that man, but I somehow have a doubt about Lane."

Freddie, on the receiving end of Adam's message, listened attentively but remained silent. His eyes scanned the surroundings, and a thoughtful expression crossed his face as he considered the implications of Adam's suspicion.

Meanwhile, in the midst of the school day, Freddie shifted his attention back to the students. With a smile, he addressed them, "Okay, students, that will be your homework for tomorrow."

As Liam and Lane continued their conversation with the principal, Liam expressed the need to leave urgently. The principal, understanding the urgency, nodded in acknowledgment.

"Mr. Principal, I will come again."

"It's just I got a call, and it's so urgent," Liam explained.

The principal, gracious in his response, nodded and acknowledged the unexpected turn of events.

"Okay, Mr. Liam. I would be honored if you came again," he said.

Liam, offering a slight smile, bid farewell to the principal and Lane.

As the Principal and Liam emerged from the chamber, Lane remained behind, signaling that he would join them shortly. They strolled towards the gate, engaging in casual conversation as they moved through the school grounds.

Liam, a perceptive individual with connections to a powerful mafia, couldn't help but notice the workers scattered around. Suspicions began to form in his mind, and he decided to probe the principal discreetly.

"Did you hire those workers today, sir?"

Liam asked, his eyes scanning the surroundings with a hint of scrutiny.

The principal, aware that the seemingly ordinary workers were, in fact, undercover police officers, hesitated for a moment. He knew the delicate nature of the situation but chose to maintain a facade of innocence.

"Ah… yes, as you are coming, so I thought it needed to be clean," he replied with a forced smile.

Liam, skilled at navigating the murky waters of organized crime, saw through the principal's attempt to conceal the truth. A subtle change in expression and a knowing hint were all Liam needed to confirm his suspicions.

Liam, having pieced together the puzzle of deception within the school, took a deep breath as he lowered his gaze. The revelation that the workers were not there for simple cleaning, but part of an undercover operation, confirmed his suspicions. His organization had been keeping a watchful eye on the school, and the discrepancy in the principal's explanation raised the red flag.

With a subtle movement, Liam shifted some dust under his shoe, a symbolic gesture reflecting the unsettled nature of the situation. He clasped his hands behind his back, composing himself before addressing the principal.

"So, I need to go, sir, and we will meet again."

As he spoke, Liam extended his hand for a handshake. The principal reciprocated the gesture, their hands meeting in a firm shake. It was a parting that held more significance than met the eye.

Just as Liam was about to walk away, a voice from behind shattered the fleeting calmness.

"Stop right there."

Liam sighed, the weight of the situation pressing upon him. The unexpected command halted his departure, and he turned to face the source of the voice. The tension in the air escalated, and the shadows of organized crime and law enforcement converged in a precarious standoff.
