The tall trees wheeze past as the car sped along the driveway. I sighed, as I tapped my legs. A static came from the mic in my ear and I held it.
"Mia, are you sure about this?" Tara's voice came through the mic.
I shook my head then remembered she couldn't see me. "No."
I glanced at Damon seated at the back, with a picture of Lily in his hand. It was the same picture on his desk in his office. He lowered
his head as he caressed the picture gently.
"But he needs this, Tara," I said.
She sighed. "I understand."
"Any updates?" I asked.
There was a pause and I could hear a shuffle. "None yet. Don't worry, I'll be your eyes. Say your goodbyes and come back home safely, Mia."
"Thanks."
George's eyes met mine, his hands on the wheel and he shook his head. I knew he had a lot of questions for me but he was holding back. He glanced at Damon from the rearview mirror, his eyes filled with worry.
"You didn't tell Alan about this, did you?" I mouthed.
