Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Hunting in the Wilderness

In the forest.

The horse galloped like the wind!

"He's back!"

"It's the man on the horse."

"Stop him."

"Raise your weapons!"

It was the Scavengers.

They raised their clubs, trying to block Tang Wen's path.

But upon seeing the galloping steed, they dared not stand in the middle of the road, fearing they would be trampled.

Fools courting death.

Tang Wen casually flicked a few stones from his horse.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The stones pierced through the leader's body and continued their trajectory, piercing through the person behind him.

Like armor-piercing bullets from a sniper rifle.

"Ahhh!"

Blood gushed out as the Scavengers rolled on the ground in agony, their screams echoing in unison.

They didn't even have a set of leather armor.

Each stone had pierced through several bodies.

"Neigh!" The warhorse charged forward for a hundred meters.

Tang Wen pulled the reins, turning the horse around.

No more running!

As the esteemed Commander of the Flame Camp and a second-rank Martial Master, he wanted to see how many wolves dared to chase him.

In reality, his senses told him that the danger behind him wasn't severe, certainly not life-threatening.

"Howl!"

The warhorse's hooves shifted uneasily.

Tang Wen had already stuffed its ears with cloth, so it couldn't hear the Silver Wolf's howls. Otherwise, it would have collapsed by now.

Tang Wen dismounted, tied the foolish deer to the horse's back, and gently patted its rump. The horse trotted a few steps toward the camp.

Then it stopped, looking back as if waiting for its master, Tang Wen.

"Good horse! You're much better than Blood Raven. I'll give you extra chicken later..."

Before he could finish the word "eggs,"

Suddenly, the horse seemed to sense something.

Its front hooves lifted, it neighed, and then it bolted.

Tang Wen's mouth twitched at the sight.

A few dozen seconds later, a silver-white figure appeared in Tang Wen's line of sight.

It was several meters long, with a perfect streamlined body, not a single stray hair.

Its massive wolf eyes seemed to flicker with emerald flames.

Nature had been quite generous to the Silver Wolf clan.

Not only were they exceptionally handsome, but they also didn't need to train hard. An adult Silver Wolf was a Mid-level Exotic Beast.

Equivalent to a human Martial Practitioner.

After a few years, they became High-Level Exotic Beasts.

If their bloodline was purer, they could even become Awakened Experts!

The cries of the Scavengers on the ground gradually subsided, their blood staining the earth a deep crimson.

The scent of blood filled the air. The Silver Wolf growled, its ferocity revealed, its sharp fangs like rows of gleaming daggers, radiating a chilling light.

Tang Wen's right leg slowly slid back half a step.

The wolf's eyes narrowed, and Tang Wen's left leg slid back a full step.

It looked as if he was about to flee.

The Silver Wolf, a High-Level Mutated Beast, naturally understood.

"Howl!"

It let out a low growl, the sound waves hitting Tang Wen, who grimaced in discomfort.

The unlucky souls on the ground lost control, their eyes rolling back as they fainted.

Tang Wen's feet seemed to glide as if he were doing the moonwalk, "swish, swish, swish," retreating several steps.

The Silver Wolf's eyes showed suspicion: Was this human afraid?

Tang Wen: Why hasn't this Silver Wolf pounced yet? You're a beast, what are you holding back for?

With flesh and blood right in front of you, just lower your head and eat!

Tang Wen continued to retreat, putting dozens of steps between them.

He then turned around, exposing his back to the wolf.

"Howl!" The Silver Wolf growled in anger.

It wanted nothing more than to pounce and tear this human apart.

But after the growl, it remained in place.

Tang Wen sighed inwardly: A pack of restrained Mutated Beasts, no wonder they've survived around the camp for so long!

Just now, Tang Wen feigned weakness, only wanting to determine if the Silver Wolf would take the initiative to attack.

If the Silver Wolf acted first, it would mean that even the outskirts of the forest were no longer safe.

Within the camp, from the Commander down, it would be difficult to escape the Silver Wolf's hunt.

The fragile balance between humans and wolves would be shattered. A battle would be inevitable.

But the Silver Wolf held back, and Tang Wen couldn't tell whether this was a blessing or a curse.

Mutated Beasts not only possessed formidable physiques and extraordinary talents but also intelligence. Where was the justice in that!

Watching the Silver Wolf disappear into the forest, Tang Wen also turned and left.

A moment later, he found his warhorse grazing in the forest, mounted it, and returned to the camp.

"Caw, caw, caw."

The Blood Raven circling above the courtyard tried to land on Tang Wen's shoulder, but he waved it away.

"You little rascal, you flew off on your own at the first sign of danger?"

"Caw," the Blood Raven called, as if trying to explain itself.

"Lord Tang Wen, the Blood Raven has been calling to us just now, as if it wanted to lead us somewhere," Taohua said, looking up from skinning a roe deer.

"Oh?"

Tang Wen looked at her, and Taohua's cheeks flushed slightly. "It kept calling, as if it wanted us to go north."

"Didn't expect it to know how to call for help. Not bad, not bad. Next time, don't fly home; go to the palace or the General's residence to call for help…"

Tang Wen laughed, cutting off a piece of roe deer meat to reward the Blood Raven.

The Blood Raven flew down, nuzzling his palm.

After eating and drinking his fill, Tang Wen rested briefly.

He left the city overnight, heading toward the southern wilderness.

Under the bright moonlight, he arrived near a mountain spring, the moon already high in the sky.

Around the pool formed by the spring water, various animal footprints were chaotically mixed together.

Casually breaking off a thorn, he approached the pool and inserted it into the water.

The water level barely covered half of the thorn.

Tang Wen sighed softly, "It's only been a few days, and the water level has dropped by half."

He rubbed the Blood Raven's little head and instructed again, "Find prey! Find prey, understand?"

"Caw, caw."

The Blood Raven flew into the sky.

Tang Wen climbed to the high ground where the spring was located, took out the Thousand-Li Mirror, and observed the surroundings.

The wilderness under the moonlight was cold and desolate, with only a few shrubs.

Not even a shadow of a beast could be seen.

The Blood Raven flew back, circling above Tang Wen's head.

"That way?"

Tang Wen pointed in the direction it had flown from.

"Caw," the Blood Raven called excitedly.

The sound of hooves clattered as Tang Wen rode forward, holding the Thousand-Li Mirror.

After crossing a low hill, two massive, gray, branch-like antlers appeared in his view.

Two bull moose were locked in combat.

Isn't this supposed to be outside the moose's mating season?

A puzzled thought flashed through his mind.

As the distance closed, Tang Wen looked with satisfaction at the two massive moose.

They could provide at least fifteen hundred pounds of meat.

Thud, thud!

Eight hooves kicked up sand and stones as they struggled.

Tang Wen rode closer, and the two moose desperately tried to retreat, but their antlers were tangled together, making their struggles futile.

"You two are fated to meet me."

Tang Wen walked up to the two fools, pulled out a thumb-thick rope, and deftly tied it around the moose's necks.

Swish!

A palm strike landed on the antlers, and with a crack, the hard antlers shattered into pieces.

Thud! One moose lowered its head and charged.

Tang Wen lightly kicked it in the white fur on its chest, and the moose let out a mournful cry, its front legs lifting off the ground as it flipped over.

The other moose, wielding its sharp broken antler, charged at Tang Wen, who casually swung his whip.

A sharp crack echoed, and a deep gash appeared on the moose's head, its body staggering from the blow.

The two moose, having suffered, turned to flee.

"Heh, now you're finally putting in the effort together."

Tang Wen planted his foot firmly on the ground, and with a strong pull of his right hand, the rope instantly tightened.

The two moose, with their eight hooves, dug deep pits into the ground.

Yet, they still skidded in place.

Clack, clack, clack, they dug for a while.

The moose stopped, panting heavily, as Tang Wen tugged at the rope, but they stubbornly refused to move.

Not following was their last act of defiance.

Go ahead, try to drag us!

Crack!

The whip snapped.

The two moose wanted to flee, but they couldn't escape.

A few minutes later.

He rode his horse, leading two trembling, unusually docile moose, towards the distant hills.
