She finally said it. "She's your sister, son. Your half-sister."
The air reeled with intense silence as everything became much more suffocating.
My heart tugged much faster than expected.
"What's going on? What else are you holding back from my knowledge?" I asked again, my eyes slightly watering as the weight became unbearably heavy for me to contain.
"I have a sister, and you never let me know all this while?"
"I'm sorry, son," she sniffled and took in my almost teary gaze.
"It's not like I intended all this, but everything was for a purpose until things took a different turn ten years ago," she declared, taking her gaze and fixing it on the lady she had called Sonia.
"Son, I never wanted to lie to you," she whispered. Her fingers gripped Sonia's lifeless hand like she was anchoring herself to it. "But I didn't know how to protect you both."
Protect us both?
"From what exactly?"
