Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 – A World Without Chains

The Price of Silence

The sun rose slowly over the Bolivian mountains, painting the metallic rooftops of the South American stronghold in gold.

The battle against the slaver mosquito had ended just weeks ago, yet the earth still smelled of blood and old smoke.

However, for the first time in a long while, it was not the scent of death. It was the echo of a pause—

a fragile, precious pause.

Rob walked through the central halls dressed in ordinary clothes, no armor, no visible weapons.

The greetings from the residents weren't shouted or ceremonial—just simple smiles.

People had returned to planting, repairing, teaching.

In one of the rebuilt plazas, a group of children played "Guardians," using sticks as swords and stones as power cores.

When Rob passed by, one of them shouted:

"I'm Rob! I have the sword that cuts through the mist!"

The others laughed. And so did Rob. Not from pride — but from relief.

That world, where children could play without fear again, was exactly what he had fought for.

Inside the Planning Room

Lucía and José reviewed reports on resource distribution. José spoke enthusiastically:

"The hydroponic crops are working. And the solar energy cores are more stable than we thought.

If this keeps up… we could take in refugees from the smaller strongholds."

Lucía nodded, but her eyes kept drifting toward the window— as if she were waiting to see something… or someone.

A Family Moment

That night, Rob gathered with his family on the highest terrace of the stronghold.

Victoria waited for him with a blanket, Amélie in her arms, and Matthew holding a notebook full of drawings.

"What's this?" Rob asked, flipping through pages filled with creatures, Guardians, and a figure that clearly represented him.

"It's my story," Matthew said proudly.

"The story of how Dad saved the world."

Victoria laughed softly.

"I hope there are happy chapters."

"Lots of them," Matthew replied.

"Because now… we have peace."

Rob embraced his family.

In silence, he swore to protect that calm with everything he had.

Victoria, leaning on his shoulder, whispered teasingly:

"You sure you weren't off looking for some other woman while you were gone?"

Rob looked her in the eyes and smiled sincerely:

"I only have eyes for you. It's always been that way."

And beneath the stars, for the first time in years, they breathed in peace.

Calm in South America Was Not Passivity

On the contrary, the bases began working together more closely than ever before.

In Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, direct lines of communication and transport were established.

The caravans that once traveled armed to the teeth now carried tools, seeds, and books.

Lucía organized teams of trainee Guardians to assist communities that had been left isolated.

José reactivated a network of tunnels connecting shelters with former mining sites, now adapted into strategic storage facilities. Every move reflected one clear idea:

peace had to be sustained through action.

Meanwhile, diplomatic meetings were being planned to establish a continental council of strongholds. Not a government— but a network of cooperation. And at the center of it all, without seeking it, was Rob.

In various regions, improvised statues began to appear— not in heroic poses, but portraying him walking with his daughter in his arms or embracing his people.

A simple image. Human. But powerful.

From the window of a southern train, Victoria saw one of those tributes.

She took Rob's hand and said:

"No matter if the world forgets names. What you did… is already in everyone's heart."

Rob didn't answer.

He simply squeezed her hand and looked forward. Because he knew this peace was a chapter— not the end.

Anomalies on the Horizon

One week after the consolidation of the southern stronghold council, a series of anomalies began appearing in atmospheric monitoring reports.

They weren't signs of an attack— they were patterns.

Patterns similar to those that preceded the emergence of S-rank creatures, but with unknown variations.

Alan, the lead system analyst, arrived urgently to speak with Rob, José, and Lucía.

"This isn't like before," he said, showing the graphs.

"There's no entity. Just waves—like something much bigger is altering the environment… but hasn't manifested yet."

Rob furrowed his brow.

"And what does the Survival System say?"

"Silence. As if it can't predict what's coming."

Lucía crossed her arms.

"Then it's new. Something outside the equation."

The Breach in the Amazon

Meanwhile, at the edges of the Amazon, a group of exploring Guardians discovered a deep fissure— the size of a city— emitting heat and rhythmic vibrations.

There was no life nearby.

No animals.

No insects.

No sound.

Only emptiness.

The team reported the discovery… and never responded again.

Rob was reviewing the report in his office when Victoria entered silently.

She didn't say a word. She simply wrapped her arms around his neck from behind.

"Something's coming again, isn't it?" she whispered.

He nodded.

"But this time…" she said, "you're not alone."

Rob closed his eyes.

"And that changes everything."

A System That Finally Speaks

The Survival System, which had remained silent for days, issued a notification during the early morning hours:

[CRITICAL CORE UPDATEASSIGNED RANK: ROB – A NEW CLASSIFICATION: CONTINENTAL PILLAR CANDIDATE]

Thiago read the notification aloud while they were having breakfast in the communal dining hall.

Everyone in the room fell silent.

"Does that mean…?" someone began.

"That the system recognizes Rob as an anchor," José replied.

"One of the few who can guide entire regions."

Victoria took Rob's hand and squeezed it.

He said nothing.

But his eyes… were shining.

The Weight of a New Light

That day, Rob walked through the stronghold as he always did.

Greeting people.

Listening.

Laughing with children.

Meeting with leaders.

Observing the training sessions.

But now, every glance he received carried something new: real hope.

Because he was no longer just a symbol of strength— but of balance. Of justice.

And while the system's camera tracked him from afar, a line of text updated without anyone noticing:
